That's awfully strange. Maybe they just wanted a pick?

That's the only thing I can figure. It's a bizarre move.

Against RHP sure' date=' but with a .222 average last year against LHP, he's probably not so scary to them.[/quote']

That 1.059 OPS vs righties sure is scary, and seeing as how most pitchers are RHP, it evens out. The way to fix Ortiz' platoon issue is simple, bring back V-Mart and Varitek, and play them (Tek at C, Martinez at DH) against tough lefties.

Ortiz hates being platooned. And considering the quality of lefties that will be in the AL East (Sabathia/Lee on the yankees for example) it should be made a much bigger concern. I'm starting to seriously buy-in to the Belichick mentality of "if you're playing for yourself and not the team, get the f*** out"

The Blue Jays have inquired about the availability of Zack Greinke and Alex Gordon, according to Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun. As Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reported yesterday, the Royals are looking for multiple top prospects for Greinke.

I thought Grienke wanted to go to a team that had better chances of winning and making the playoffs? Maybe Toronto's FO knows of some re-alignment that we don't know about yet :dunno:

If he wants to be on a low key team with no chance of winning he should just stay in KC. Why banish yourself to Canada and still have no sht at winning?

Toronto's offense from 2010 is unsustainable. They have a shot at 3rd in the division, but beating the Red Sox, the Rays, and the next best WC team in the league is incredibly unlikely.

I mentioned this over at MLBTR and the Toronto fans are killing me for it and labeling me as ignorant.

I actually think Texas should make a play for Grienke. Let the Yankees give:Lee 7 years at 25M per. Grienke could most certainly give them comparable performance output and at abut 50% of the cost. Will cost some prospects though. But better then having Lee playing shuffleboard making 25M at the end of his deal.

You're implying Yankees will finish 3rd or 4th in the AL East next year? lol

I think he was implying the Yankees as division winners and that Toronto would still have Boston, TB and the next WC team to make it though. I could be wrong though.

Their runs scored wasnt impressive at all. But I think their overall offense improves with bounceback yrs from Lind and the coming out parties for Arencibia and Snider. Their rotation was impressive, especially with Morrow rounding into a potential ace and Romero proving he is a solid starter. And dont forget that Drabek will be cracking their 2011 rotation, and he has a lot of upside. They arent junk.

If the Yankees get Lee, they take the East next year. In order for them to get to the playoffs, Toronto needs to beat Tampa, Boston, and other wild cards from other divisions.

The Marlins are close to signing Buck to a three-year deal, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. We had speculated on the three-year possibility just a few hours ago.
Posted
wtf, Buck is coming off an .800 OPS season and is only 29, he should be a shoo-in for 3 years. Yet you're telling me a catcher who's two years OLDER will get two years MORE?
Posted
You have met Jacko, right? This definitely improves Vmart's stock, possibly guaranteeing him the 4th year that the Red Sox are skeptical to give him-- but it doesn't necessarily guarantee him a 5th.
Posted
SO a 29 yr old journeyman has a season where he showed minimal blocking skills, almost no OBP skills and solid power and gets a 3 yr deal. This has to only help VMart's position. And I bet you that VMart's contract will have a 5th yr attached be it guaranteed or a vesting option

In any case it changes the landscape for the Sox. One less viable option available.

I'll mention it again. The Sox remain interested in Suzuki. It probably won't happen. But I hope it does.

The Cardinals have re-signed Jake Westbrook to a two-year deal with a mutual option for 2013, tweets Ed Price of AOL FanHouse. Terms of the deal are unknown at this time.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale introduced the idea of Justin Upton as a trade candidate on Monday, and the rumors took off yesterday. Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers told Joel Sherman of the New York Post, "He would be a tough guy to move. But you always seek out the information on what teams will do because you never know if, to get one player, a team will grossly overpay."

Sherman talked to one team executive who says the Marlins have had the most interest in Upton for a while. An exec speculated that Logan Morrison and Ricky Nolasco would get it done, notes Sherman.

Decent haul, was expecting it to be more. It is just the exec opinion though. Still I think the Red Sox could top that. Dice-K+Doubront+1B/OF prospect?

The Tigers are nearing a multiyear deal with reliever Joaquin Benoit, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. He says the deal could potentially be as long as three year

Was hoping maybe the Sox could get him on a 1 or maybe 2 year deal. 3 is too much.

DiceK is worth negative value to a team that is rebuilding like the DBacks. You'd have to back up the Brinks truck of prospects in order to get him, as would we. I dont like the idea of going after him since he is already expensive and would cost a ton in prospect talent. I would think a Yankee starting point would be Montero plus one of the B's. I would think the sox would need to start with Kelly and Iglesias and go from there

The Tigers reached an agreement with righty reliever Joaquin Benoit on a three-year, $16.5MM deal today.

Wow. The FA market for RP is ridiculous.
