Kay is worse than James Carville when it comes to spinning things.

By the same token, you could say that he's also making an excuse for Danks. I don't think that's an example of him being a Yankee apologist.

Did he say it when Danks gave one up? I didn't hear the broadcast. I responded to Jacko's post, which portrayed it as something he said in defense of CC.

If he didn't, I don't buy into that extrapolation.

I have watched Jeter all yr long. He no longer has any drive to the ball, he doesnt hit liners anymore and he cannot reach the gaps. Aside from the random homer, he's been a minus offensively.

Yes he does. Its been weird. He's hitting enough homers, but he's not hitting enough doubles and just doesnt seem to drive the ball like he used to. He was never a true homer hitter. But he could always shoot the gap in RCF. He just doesnt do it anymore

I wasn't watching the game either, but I think making that comment after five home runs to left field (no matter which particular HR he said it after) is more of a general comment than anything. Additionally, I was there, and the flags were blowing out to left field, so it was also a truthful comment.

However, without watching the broadcast it's hard for me to comment, and if it really was in defense of CC, I completely agree with you. But with the comment being said after five home runs to the same part of the park, and with the flags actually blowing out to left field, I think it was likely more of a general statement (and a fact) than anything else.

You didn't listen to it, yet you think you know what the context was (when someone who did listen to it disagrees)?

OK.

Unless he said CC only gave up the home run because of the wind, then I don't see what context would guarantee that it was being said in defense of CC, and only CC. Couple that with knowing that what Kay said is a fact, and I don't think he's being a Yankee apologist.

EDIT: But maybe Jacko can tell us at some point, more or less, what he said.

Was that a reference to a700? What happen to "tick another day of the calender"

I wasnt expecting to win, I was pretty psyched.

Nova looks like he could make an impact for this team.

After the Jones homer' date=' Kay said that "the ball is carrying really well to LF tonight." He may have been right, but the homers he gave up werent cheap. They were 7-8 rows deep[/quote']

I don't see how that can be construed as making an excuse for Sabathia. He said it after the fifth home run to left field in less than four innings. The wind was blowing out to left. Granted, it's a bit of useless analysis (especially when you consider that none of the five were cheap, as you mentioned), but it's a common thing to say. That many home runs, in that little time, to the same part of the park, is usually going to be prompt a comment like the one Kay said.

I agree with you, the Rays strength of schedule for September is much weaker, it will be tough for the Yankees to win the division yet fairly easy for them to win the Wild Card
