Absolutely. But over the past few seasons we have had the best pitching prospect (Hughes)' date=' one of the best in Chamberlain and the best hitter.[/quote']

Do you seriously think Hughes has been the best pitching prospect of the last few years and Montero has been the best hitting prospect of the past few years? Because if you were being sarcastic, that would have made for a pretty funny joke.

In Jacko's defense, Baseball America rated Hughes as the 2nd best pitching prospect after Dice-K in 2007. Montero is also considered by many to be the best pure hitting prospect right now. According to BA, the only guys currently ahead of him are Jason Heyward, Mike Stanton, and Desmond Jennings.

Phil Hughes was the best in 2007 and Chamberlain was the best in 2008. Saying that Hughes was the best pitching prospect for multiple years is incorrect.

Dipre, that's what I meant. I did not infer that he's still the best pitching prospect, he isnt even a prospect anymore. I actually didnt know Joba was the highest rated, I thought he was second.

If that's what you meant then why'd you say that the last few years the Yankees have had the best pitching and hitting prospect?

Yeah, as far as i know "few" is plural. Maybe not what he actually meant, but it's what you get from reading it.

Sorry I didn't spell it out for you. Over the past 3 seasons, we have had the best MiLB pitching prospect twice and the best hitting prospect once.

Not per your initial statement. You honestly thought Hughes had been the top pitching prospect for 07 and 08. Admit it and move on.

No' date=' my initial statement said the top and one of the top. I thought Joba was second. Now that you corrected me, it cements my point even further[/quote']

Ok then.

Wait a second.

The Yankees were honest about their offseason plans? They were honest about Holliday and Bay? They didn't sign the one big pitching FA? This wasn't some big conspiracy to lull everyone to sleep, and then swoop in at the last minute?

You should post this somewhere SoxSport can see it.

However, I wouldn't be shocked to see Damon come back for something very reasonable, possibly the 2/14 contract that they offered him. He literally has not been linked to any team (although now that Holliday and Bay are off the market, I do expect more interest). Also, judging by his actions and comments at the time of the Nick Johnson signing, it really doesn't seem like he wants to play anywhere else.

I think it's realistic that the Yankees really don't want to go into the season with Brett Gardner in left, and, if Damon drops his demands significantly, I think he comes back.

If I am the Yankees i would hold out for a little less since than they already offered him that possibly 2/12.

I hope so because I don't like Gardner in left. As unlikely as it looks, stranger things have happened so I wouldn't be shocked if an agreement is made with Damon before spring training.

s***, at least sign Nady to an incentive-laden deal.

I think it was a good move by the Yankees to pass on Bay/Holiday and Lackey, now next off season they can pick up Cliff Lee and Carl Crawford

Hinske signs with the Braves. Not a huge loss but I thought the Yanks should have brought him back with the versatility and pop he provides off the bench. The way it's looking right now our bench is a joke.

Pretty much. You don't even have a backup OF or 1B. Ramiro Pena sucks offensively and defensively. And your backup C has less than 100 AB MLB experience in which he was offensively challenged.

Looks like the Sox have the clear edge in the rotation, on defense and with the bench.

When he's not DHing Nick Johnson will serve as the backup 1B, can't complain with that. As for Pena, he definitely sucks with the bat, but he's pretty damn good with the glove. I have absolutely no concerns with Cervelli, and we still have to see what this Hoffman kid has. We definitely need some more pop though.

Cervelli is a lot younger than I thought he was. He's a decent backup catcher. He's good defensively. Any offense he gives you is a bonus.

Then who will serve as the backup DH when Johnson's playing first? If you're going to rest one of the other starting 9 at the DH spot then who fills in for them at their position?

Not a single member of the Yankees bench has 70 games major league experience. Your team has the highest payroll in baseball and you're cool with 4 of your 13 positional players being minor league players?

The Yankees seriously need to upgrade their bench.

I don't disagree with you. But with guys like A-Rod and Posada, when they feel the need to rest Tex and shift Johnson to first they'll have plenty of DH options. Like you said though the concern is who fills in for those guys. I doubt the Yankees are done though, I can't see them going into the season with this roster.

Plenty of DH options like... who? Your bench currently consists of Francisco Cervelli, Ramiro Pena, ? and ?. And those first two are pretty weak hitters with little MLB experience.

I'm not saying those will be the backup DHs, they would be playing the field for whoever is DHing that day though, and all of them are good defenders. With the lineup that we have we don't need a bench full of sluggers. While I admit our bench is weak and should be a little bit better on offense, it's not a liability that concerns me too much. With guys like Jeter, Teixeira, A-Rod, Posada, Cano, etc. who cares if Ramiro Pena or Francisco Cervelli gets a few ABs. Now if this were the NL and we had a constant need for a pinch hitter, I would be a little concerned.
