Now, lets say the sox relent and deal Casey Kelly, Ryan Westmoreland, and Lars Anderson. That gives SD a replacement at 1B for 2011, a top notch SP prospect who'll crack the bigs likely in 2012, and an OF prospect who should crack the bigs in 2013. Lets just say Theo makes that move. Here's the order

1. Ellsbury LF

2. Pedroia 2B

3. Gonzalez 1B

4. Youkilis 3B

5. Ortiz DH

6. Martinez C

7. Drew RF

8. Cameron CF

9. Scutaro SS

with a rotation of

1. Lester

2. Beckett

3. Lackey

4. Buchholz

5. Matsuzaka

I'll tell you what, that would be one hell of a tough team to beat.

i really dont see how a deal can be done without Buch

Gom, this is absolutely ridiculous. In one of the Yankees' threads I clearly laid out for you why, in all probability, the Yankees aren't going to make any moves, and are justified in doing so. You chose to, in large part, to ignore it, choosing only to senselessly bash Cashman, claiming blindly that he should do more.

You're only seeing things from your vantage point, ignoring the other factors at work here.

I completly agree with this. I much rather give up Kelly, Westmoreland, plus whatever then Jacoby and Buch. Jacoby has proven he has what it takes to play in this league and Buchholz has shown glimpes. Give them the prospects. This team here is enough to win the East. The one Jacko mentions before isn't.

Plus the Yanks are probably saving up for the 2011 FA class, one probably better than this year's class.

If you give SD those three guys' date=' I doubt Hoyer rejects the deal[/quote']

Agreed. Its a good deal for both sides. I really want to keep Jacoby and Ellsbury. Give up those three you are getting a guaranteed stud in his prime. You are also keeping your best young pitcher.

Of course, because giving up three prospects with a A-/A+ ceiling is wayyy to much.

Well, the question becomes, do you deal them or make room for them when they are ready.

If they dealt Westmoreland, Kelly, and Anderson, where would other holes crop up?

They would probably resign Gonzalez long term. Meaning that 1b, 2b, and 3b would be locked up long term and CF would be locked in for another 3 yrs of control in Ellsbury. So Anderson really has no place in this organization. Both COF spots open after 2011, but Westmoreland probably isnt an option for then anyway since he'll probably not be ready. The rotation would see one spot open in the next 3 seasons with Beckett leaving after 2010 presumably, but would Kelly be ready for the big stage in Boston for 2011, probably not. So, there is a very good chance that the holes being created over the next few seasons would not be filled by these guys anyway. So, dealing them makes a ton of sense.

Just got off the phone with my buddy... anyhow.. here is the deal on Gonzo as you may already know.. Theo does not want to include BOTH Jacoby and Ellsbury...and really wants to keep CLAY. Hoyer is no dummy and wants Clay or Casey Kelley AND Ellsbury. Theo will not trade Kelly. Theo does not want to trade Westy. IF Theo agrees to include Ellsbury and Clay..this will be the deal that Hoyer will accept...I think Theo is trying to entice Hoyer with a Ellsbury/Bowden/Kalish/Anderson type deal..Hoyer ain't moving Gonzo for anything less than CLAY/Kelley AND Ellsbury and possibly Anderson or Bowden.

My friend is being VERY evasive once again... but I think this deal is going down... sooner than later. Gonzo's puny salary makes this deal a no-brainer for Theo.. I think he will relent and give Clay and Ellsbury...and Cameron will warm CF until Westy is ready in 2 or 3 years. Westy could also be the RF'er when Drew's contract is up and they could go after Crawford next year....though I think we all would rather Henry and Co. break the bank and get Mauer to Beantown...though outbidding the Yankees will be nearly impossible.

I could live with Ellsbury being traded, but if that's the case I'd really like to keep Buchholz. I would much rather have Buchholz than Kelly at this point. Who is your friend, by the way?

hmmm for some reason I thought you had been banned, hadn't seen you post in awhile,

anyways back on topic I think that Kelly, Westmoreland, Bowden, plus one of the OF prospects would be a hard offer to overlook by SD, we might have to had a few more PTBNL on top of it but thats still a killing that the Padres would be making without taking any of our current starters.

I think this is more of a prediction than a report.

It's from a source close to Adrian so a prediction from Adrian?

He must have some indication to "predict" this

Just passing it along... for the record I don't put much stock in this one' date=' in spite of my blatant hope that the Sox get a deal done this off-season[/quote']

I appreciate it being passed along.

Why don't we use an Adrian Gonzelez thread, or the offseason thread, or create a rumors thread.

This thread will last about 8 minutes and then slowly slide down the list.

Works for me... mods?

Note to Jacko: In any scenario where Gonzales comes to the Sox, he bats 4th, sandwiched between Youk and V-Mart.

I think all the moves this offseason are starting to build a picture when I think about them. Call me crazy, but this is what I see:

Laptop

Max Ramirez

Lowrie

Bowden

Kotchman + $$ to cover Kotchmans salary

for

Adrian Gonzalez

Explanation for SD to make the deal:

1. Top flight starting pitcher who has a chance to dominate in the NL.

2. Max Ramirez gives them their long term solution to replacing Adrian Gonzalez.

3. Jed Lowrie gives them the opportunity to trade Kouzmanoff (which has been rumored). Jed Lowrie will be given the opportunity to play 3B.

4. Bowden gives them another prospect who has dropped off, but may fare well in the NL.

5. Kotchman gives them their 1B for this season, with Ramirez in the wings.

San Diegos new GM is very familiar with all of the players involved (Ramirez excluded). I think its a deal that an NL team, especially the small payroll Padres would have to consider, especially considering the ages and MLB experience of the prospects/players included.

Not to toot my own horn, but on EEI today, at around 215pm, it was rumored that the current deal on the table is:

Laptop

Lowrie

Ellsbury (I didnt include him in my original)

Esposito ( I included him later in the thread)

Kotchman

Westmoreland and Kelly are untouchables.

Who is Laptop? And how the heck did he get that nickname?

And I thought Expo might get into this discussion at some point. He's a natural fit, since SD could use some catching and Expo's very "toolsy."

If Buchholz is "Laptop" I definitely don't want him AND Ellsbury AND THEN OTHER prospects to be going anywhere for only one player. That's just way too freaking much talent. I'd want to see additional players coming back to Boston in that case.

I think they'll find a way to get it done without Ellsbury, and the fact that Kotchman is part of the deal makes me very very happy.

Bucholz, because he stole a couple laptops a few years back.

"Buchholz was arrested shortly before the 2005 draft after he and a friend stole 29 laptop computers from his high school to sell them. Buchholz admits it was a mistake, but stated "I was hanging out with the wrong person. But I think it helped me out in the long run." [15][16]

What if instead of Ellsbury it was Ryan Kalish or Josh Reddick. you think that would ever go through.

I really doubt that.
