Loney is a much better option than Kotchman (even though he also doesn't have that much power for a first baseman), but giving up Buchholz for him is not a good idea.

If you sign Beltre what is the Sox's line up?

  1. Ellsbury LF
  2. Pedroia 2B
  3. Youkilis 1B
  4. Martinez C
  5. Ortiz DH
  6. Beltre 3B
  7. J.D Drew RF
  8. Cameron CF
  9. Scutaro SS

This seem right?

Ells

Pedey

Martinez

Youk

Papi

Cameron

Drew

Beltre

Scutaro.

I'd give Papi the first crack at the 5-spot.

I really hope not. But according to the globe the Sox offered Beltre a contract.

I want Gonzo.

Get Beltre.

Play defense.

If they got Beltre' date=' Loney and Gonzo have no room on the So.[/quote']

What we "want" and what is realistic are two different things.

And no to Loney. Just no.

I don't want Loney. I would like to have Gonzo but that prolly won't happen. Beltre would be nice to have at 3B.

The offer shows that the Sox want Lowell out.

Which is surprising.

Apparently they heard me, because according to some, i'm the only person who thinks that Lowell simply can't play defense at 3B anymore./sarcasm.

According Justin Mercer Sox interested in Loney for Buchholz.

heard rumors of #redsox and #dodgers talking of trading James Loney for Clay Buckholtz. Looking for confirmation.

Considering how he spelled Buchholz name... I think this is BS

Who the hell is Justin Mercer anyways?

Both Olney and Rosenthal reporting A's are out of the Beltre sweepstakes. How legit and the O's and Angels? I doubt they are. I they the Sox are his only real option.

Oakland is currently out on Adrian Beltre; the A's have pulled their offer off the table.

No Loney' date=' not for Buchholz. No way.[/quote']

A laughable rumor... I hope. :dunno:

No Loney for Buchholz. I'd be more than happy with Loney for SOMEONE, but not Buchholz.

With Beltre in the mix, Youk can play 1st and Kotchman can sit his ass down on the bench where he belongs.

All is right in the world.

So who is the utility infielder?

Needs to be sorted out.

But Green will probably be brought back.

Please no Tug Hullet please please please.

If Beltre really signs for only 1 year at $9 million what does that mean for Damon? Their is no way he should get a 2 year deal now.

It's 2/14, 5 mill for the second year. The opt-out is for Beltre, not the club.

I like Damon.

But really, who f***ing cares?

I just heard that Red Sox have talked to the Mets about a Mike Lowell-for-Luis Castillo trade. Not sure how serious it is.

Lowell, expendable with Beltre coming to Boston, could play some 1B in NY. And with Castillo gone, Mets could make a play for Orlando Hudson.

The problem, of course, is where would Luis Castillo fit in Boston? He's played all 1,609 career games at 2B -- home of Dustin Pedroia.

Can't the Sox buy him out? $1 million... or am I misinterpreting the contract?

9 million with a 5 mill player option.

That would be completetly idiotic. If you can't get a big leaguer who's any better than Castillo, then go after a AAAA type reliever or something.

He can no longer play good D at second, so that deal would make no sense even on that front.
