oh yea' date=' 9/9 in save chances and a 1.40 ERA, he's really making RSN wake up in a cold sweat every night...[/quote']

His 1.4 WHIP has though.

Remember the Penny game against the Angels?

Remember 2nd and 3rd, no outs against Tampa?

If you say you weren't about to s*** your pants at least on those two then you should enroll as a sharpshooter somewhere..........

That being said' date=' he gets it done, and with a bit of luck he might still have 3-4 elite years left, which made the safest pick in the bullpen in my opinion.[/quote']

Papelbon is a very good pitcher who's never really had to learn to be smart. Once he does, it'll be legendary.

I'd be very concerned about the shoulders of both Scherzer and Papelbon but I guess the upside is too great to ignore.

Also' date=' the division the person pitches in doesn't matter.[/quote']

You don't think pitching in the pitcher park heavy NL West could have some positive effect for him?

I know it was early to take him. But I wanted a young LH that could be hitting there stride in 2+ years. He was the highest rated after Price.

The idea, which has already been explained, is to ignore the league and park impact. You are drafting the player, not the player + the arbitrary setup that either hurts or helps his performance.

Took Brad Hawpe.

Good OF, solid 4-tool talent performer whose home-away splits are surprisingly unaffected by Coors Field.

Home OPS .891

Away OPS .865

.300, 30, 100 a very real posibility with his solid LH bat.

I'm pleasantly surprised he fell this far in the draft.

why is that a very real possibility? he's never done it

I took Howie Kendick. I was fairly surprised when I saw he was available. Decent glove, solid bat.

Simple.

He's only 30 years old, so he's right in the middle of his prime years.

I'm not talking about .300,30,100 as his offensive standard.

But that could very well be his career year in his ages 30-33 seasons.

Posted

and Id say considering the state of that franchise, he's more likely to be moved during his prime years and if he hasnt put up 300/30/100 at Coors, he won't do it

dont get me wrong, its not a bad pick by any means. good enough production for a corner outfielder and a wonderfully underrated OBP guy who should still be producing through age 35. just dont skew what he is

You don't think a guy who put up a .295 EQa, 25 HRs and 85 RBI in a team full of suck couldn't put together ONE 300 30 100 season during his prime?

time will tell...

anyway, I took Buerhle cause I figure I need at least one lefty and Mark is a lock for 200 IP a year and an ERA in the mid to high 3s. Plus he's still only 30

I actually believe that to be an excellent pick, specially considering the fact that his easy delivery and health chart all indicate continued health to go along with his above-average production.

Elijah Dukes is a decent performer right now with huge future potential. Between him and Granderson my outfield is shaping up very well indeed.

Ordinarily, Buerhle would have been a good pick, but he may want to retire after 2011.

Hawpe was a solid pick. And I think he is capable of .300, 30, and 100.

Dukes is a gamble because of his off-the-field problems, but there's no denying his raw ability.

Howie Kendrick has never played 100 games in a season.

Could be due to the fact that LAAAAOAAAA never plays their prospects.

at this point i dont know much first hand about some of the younger guys im going to try and fill holes with, but from all ive read maybin is supposedly a 5-tool centerfielder. he started this year out slow but hopefully he will be back in the bigs this year, and develop over the next five into a good player

Cahill helps my rotation fill out, he's one of the very top pitching prospects in baseball and off to a respectable start in his career. I got a late start in filling up my rotation, but with Dice-K, Duke, Cahill, and Tillman (in time), I could be doing worse.
