During one of the broadcasts they said something about how a particular event had seen the WR broken in the last 4 Olympics. That's not surprising. We still haven't maxed out our understanding of athletic training. I suspect these records fall in 4 years as well.

I dunno if this record falls. Under 7 minutes is pretty sweet

Part of it is also the new swimsuits. They are supposed to cut down on drag. There is no doubt that with better conditioning, records will fall, but when given an advantage of suits as well, the records will be shattered. I don't think you'll see the records fall as much the next time around with the same frequency.

I was thinking the same thing. Except for the part of us winning next year. This 2008 resembles the 2006 Red Sox. Same August collapse.

Well you're really f***ed now if your captain is hurt because that's why the Sox lost in 2006 it was when Varitek was hurt because they lost his grit and pitch calling ability.

Jeter doesn't call pitches. f*** him.

I agree. I'm not doubting the impact of the equipment, but weren't these suits used in Athens? I'm thinking it could be the pool too. Some additive to the water to lubricate it and reduce drag. Everyone wants the Olympic Games they host to be memorable, so there's motive to create a fast track.

I don't believe that's correct about the water, I'm just not into these theories. I really think it's the suit, and it debuted in February. Here's a link about the suits if you're interested.
