...and whoever's playing the Yankees - 2008 Game Thread

That analysis falls a bit short' date=' IMO. The offensive bump isn't just going to be Rodriguez and Posada. Damon, Matsui, and Giambi have all been playing light years above what anyone would have reasonably expected given recent trends, but certainly within their talents. I think the offense will carry the dead weight that is their pitching staff to a few more wins, certainly enough to keep them in contention.[/quote']

I wouldn't be surprised if the Yankees won the division. I also wouldn't be surprised if they finished third. Same goes for the Sox. No team is pulling away this season so far.

Why, are you first place Red Sox worried?

You wouldn't be scared of the little old Yankees, now, would you be?

More like afraid of the depravity we're capable of committing after listening to just one 5 second Michael Kay soundbite.

Joba's career as a starter continues on a downward trajectory as he gives up a two out two run Homer to Guillen in the 3rd inning. He's given up 3 runs and 5 hits in three innings.

Mahay held them to one run--it's a little early to call this one-run game over.
Can I call the game in the Bronx now that the Yankees have a 6-3 lead and Mahay is still in the game. Mahay is the kind of pitcher that his manager should say a prayer when he comes into the game and after one inning the manager should bless himself and genuflect and say a prayer of thanks. If the manager looks to get two innings from this bum, he is just giving away the game.

I agree, this situation, down 3, is more like when Mahay should be coming into the game, not about to leave it.

I didn't like Joba moving to the rotation, and I still don't. However, they won, so all is good in Yankeeland.

I still don't understand why people don't like this move. Look at it this way - if Joba doesn't start yesterday, some bum like Igawa comes in, gives the game away in the first 3 innings, and Joba rots in the bullpen. How is that better?

Joba threw well. Posada's passed ball and one hanging slider were the reasons for the 3 runs. I think Joba needs to learn how to be a pitcher in some instances. He had Guillen at a full count with a base open and he throws a "get me over" slider. He has to understand that he can throw that thing as hard as he can and if the slider is out of the zone, he takes the open base.

Exactly. Joba will not succeed until he learns how to properly mix his pitches and keep hitters off balance. That is why it drives me nuts when he shakes off Posada :thumbdown

the move made sense in march

in may it disrupts s*** and sacrifices had to be made that were preventable with the proper management system and chain of authority in place

1-1?

He blew the save and scummed a win out of it. 0-2 in save opportunities, lucky to come out 1-1. More often than not, when your closer gets a decision, it means he failed at his job.

I think Wang needs to go back to what worked. He'd been trying to make himself more of a complete pitcher and he had become a hit or miss guy. Go back to the sinker and work in the other stuff until it works again. Dont forget how you got to where you are.
