...and whoever's playing the Yankees - 2008 Game Thread

The heart of Red Sox Nation is built on lifelong fanatical devotion to the Red Sox. A common characteristic of Red Sox fanatics is a hatred of the Yankees. Our team is clearly superior to the Yankees and has been for several years. Yet' date=' we hate the Yankees despite this knowledge of Red Sox superiority. The Nation continues to grow and prosper and we love rubbing it in the face of the arrogant Yankee fans who are in an unhealthy state of denial. Your team sucks. Your prized rookie pitchers are still at 0 wins on May 23rd. Our rookies have more no-hitters than that.[/quote']

I haven't once posted on a New York Yankee Fan Forum. I don't want anything to do with their ilk. They don't interest me. They are anathema. 5 of their victories (6..7) happened when the rest of the country was fighting a World War. Cough Ted Williams. Not that interested, but they seem awfully interested in us now. Always heard they didn't care. Huh. They aren't so arrogant right now. I'm getting a lot of .."cheaters" from the people who have no imagination. Lot's of confused "Giants" fans coming out of the woodwork to prove their point. So I killed them. Arrogance. No way. Never have been about The Olde Town Team. I understand the game too well. Been a fan far too long. Arrogance gets you humble pie.

And yes, that's very astute that you noticed that Alex Rodriguez is a very good regular season player. ESPN is hiring. You should apply AROD. Talk about woodwork coming out of. MILE WIDE..INCH DEEP.

It was only a matter of time before people started hitting. Isn't it amazing how it coincides with Rodriguez getting back in the lineup?

Funny isn't it??

then that's sad bro. U guys need to et a life. If all you guys have to do with yourselves is hate the Yankees and our 26 championships then I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sorry you guys are jealous. You guys have a few years of superiority on us and you bust a nut over that, that makes me laugh. What about the 86 years you guys weren't s***? Remember...wasn't too long ago....

we pounded Felix earlier in the yr.

Irrelevant.

It's like the fact we have been 60% of Rich Harden's starts this year. It's a joke.

OK...and we still aren't the ones posting on the rival teams forum. That would be you. Who is us? and where are you laughing. In your heads. They're coming to take you away hee hee ha ha. The 26 championship thing gets sadder and sadder. (7)

Maybe you can pound the Mariner's inch by mile. Quite a feat. My friend. We are the ones laughing.

For now. Let's talk in November

Consider this...

Sox have the best offense in baseball. Tied for best in R, SLG, and 2B, lead the league in H, AVG and OPS. The yankees are 8th in R and 4th in OPS without Posada and without ARod for 3 weeks.

This will improve but the sox also are playing up to snuff offensively. The only players with conceivable declines coming up are Youk and Lowell since they have a history of fading late and Tek since he is coming off 2 pretty poor seasons. The rest are either underperforming or performing where they should be, which is quite a feat.

On the NYY side, the only player who is outperforming his typical yr is Matsui and that is mostly based on BA alone. His power to this point has been marginal. ARod is under .900OPS. Jeter is hitting .287. Giambi is hitting .230. Cano is hitting .229 and Damon is hitting .266. Couple that with the loss of Posada and the fact that Molina and Ensberg have started more games than ARod and Posada and you see why we struggled. Posada is expected back in 2 weeks and ARod is already back. Cano is back on fire and Giambi is getting on base at a high clip. This offense will rebound

On the pitching side, the sox are interesting. Their SP at right around 4 in ERA, good for 7th in the AL. They lead the league in BB and K. And their BAA is 2nd best. They also average 6IP per start. The Yankee OTOH are 12th in ERA, mostly thanks to Igawa, Hughes and Kennedy's earlier struggles. Wang, Mussina, Pettitte, and Rasner have combined to be a pretty solid, albeit unspectacular 4. But the numbers dont lie. The Yankees have allowed the second fewest BB in the AL, but have the 4th highest BAA.

The pen is where the surprise comes. The sox pen has been pretty poor this yr. The Sox have a 4.43 pen ERA, good for 11th in the AL. They have the 4th highest BAA, which is surprising for a team comprised of power arms and K specialists. They are 9th in K/9 and 8th in WHIP.

What is surprising is how well the Yankee pen is performing with Mariano, a bunch of kids and 2 old useless guys in Farns and Hawkins. Especially when you consider the yankees best MR option early on (Bruney) and their best long man (Albaladejo) are both pretty much out for the yr. The pen has the third lowest WHIP, the 5th best K/9IP, the third best K/BB, the 4th best BAA and the second best BB/9IP.

Just some interesting food for thought is all this is. The sox O is killing the ball as a unit although their individual numbers arent spectacular. The Yankees O is finally picking it up but are statistically in the bottom 3rd of the AL in runs scored. The sox rotation has been carrying the load in terms of innings and effectiveness, but they are walking the park. The Yankees rotation gets hit hard, but doesnt beat itself with walks. Also it is still evolving as its final rotation member is pitching for his job every game he starts now. The pen has been underperforming in the sox case, and in the yankees case, it has ben stellar. It all adds up to a 3 game lead in the L column over us.

6-0 now. Without Joba' date=' the Yankees bullpen is really going to suck. Rivera is really the only one who can be trusted.[/quote']

Hawkins and Veras did struggle today, but even w/o joba, the pen has been solid

The way he was pitching, he could have given them at least one more.

Put it this way - who do you want pitching...Rasner (I don't completely buy his success, but he's been good) or LaTroy Hawkins?

Eh, I could see why he pulled him. Markakis tater and Huff's rifle double came within 2 batters of each other. Prior to that, nobody was centering the ball. The questionable choice IMO is bringing in Veras to replace Hawkins when he left the sacks packed. Veras is a kid coming into a situation with 3 inherited runners and already a deficit.

Who else are you going to go to? Farnsworth? He sucks. Ohlendorf? He's worked too much. Joba wasn't available. The only option I think was better would be Edwar Ramirez.

the yanks have played well since the long eyelashed mabeline model returned.

i find that seattle club fascinating in their ability to lose every game thats close.

the al east is a difficult environement to win consistantly in,tampa is playing .600 and toronto and baltimore can be pains in the asses,it seems everyone is getting consistant pitching in the east
