Ya that shirt means nothing. I happened to be at Fenway this week on a tour and went into the pro shop and they had all hte player shirts hanging up, along with Clemens. Except the Clemens one wasnt the same as the others, no white lining around numbers, etc. so it was definetly a retro one.

I think they have Yaz, Teddy Ball Game, Fisk, and now clemens. It's interesting though, because that shirt will only sell if he comes back. If he goes back to the Stros or to the Yanks, he will not have changed dynamic with most Boston fans.

All those others are retired. Usually you cannot find a shirt for a trade player such as Nomar. When Mo left, you couldn't find his shirt while he was active. There were no Clemens shirts while he was with Toronto, NY and Houston. As far as I know, he is not retired. Did they print those shirts only to have to burn them if he signs with the Yankees? I disagree with your thought that going to the Yankees would not change the dynamic for the Boston fans.

What I meant was unless he comes here he wont win anybody over (meaning no shirt sales). Obviously if he goes back to the Yanks those T-Shirts arent worth the fabric they are printed on.

I am not sure I understand your point. Are you saying that nobody is buying Red Spx Clemens jerseys or if he goes to NY, nobody will buy his jerseys in NY....

Manny, Clemens has said he will not sign until sometime in June----unless, I guess, some team really throws a lot of money at him. He is a good capitalist, you know. If and when he decides the Red Sox had better be in there with all fours trying to lure him in. Face it, our starting pitching is starting to look a lot like our hitting----pretty sad right now. Of course, we can all say it is early but this team seems to lack a real spark thus far. I hate to say it but they even seem a little boring to watch. I hope this is all a bad dream and when I wake up our real Red Sox will be there waiting to clobber their enemies.

At this stage, it looks very much like the 2004 team through May and June.

I really am not as down on the Sox as most of you. I don't get why everyone is ready to jump off of a building over this team.

People should be encouraged. Schilling is healthier than anyone could have hoped him to be. Lowell has shown that he will probably be closer to his old self than last year's version. Youks has shown that he is an everyday player. Beckett has been a horse. Papelbon has been lights out and Foulke has shown a return to form. When Coco comes back that should jump start the offense, and if they pick up Clemens or Willis, watch out.

speaking of willis, what would we have to give up for him? id really like to have him in our staff, especially since we dont even have a lefty on the entire pitching staff

Except for DiNardo. I think we would have to give up too much for Willis, like Lester/Pedoria(sp)/others.

You guys know what? I hate to say it but when the Red Sox had that three month funk from May through July I said, oopps that 2003 loss to the Yankees really has taken something out of them. Thank goodness they came back and I was mistaken. Now? I hope this is a mirage, but does anybody at all agree with me that this team looks a little lost right now? They seem to be lacking some spark from where I sit. Of course a win tonight would cure many of the ills but I hark back again to the fact that our bench leaves much to be desired and Pena is still a big project. Notice how the Reds are doing so well without that strikeout machine? Then again, we could be talking about Passball Bard, or Snowed Under Snow, or Gagging Gonzales, or Creepy Cora. Again, wake me when this nightmare is over and we can all smile again. Sorry guys, but I'm a little down now. :(

I'm with you...they can't get big hits, and Schilling and Beckett are the only two that really pitch, and even they have been shakey lately. I'm scared of what's to come. I haven't lost all faith, but this is going to be a long season if the Sox keep going 1-17 with RISP. I don't know how many 15-3 ballgames I've got in me.

I don't agree at all. The team is healthy with the exception of Crisp who will be back soon. ANd there have been many other very positive signs in the early going.

The team doesn't look lost. The offense is quiet because we don't have a table setter and youk has been transplanted to the front of the order leaving the back end with too many holes. Harris/Mohr are no Coco.

The pitching is fine, the defense is great, I don't care about run differential when you have the pieces this team does. When they start clicking - and they will - they will go on runs where they lose 3 out of 15 games. They need stability in the rotation to do that and they need coco back, but they can do it. This is a well put together team. It is a 'transition' team, but they might re-define transition by winning this year in a big way. I don't see Toronto being this good in August, I really don't. Troy Glaus is a career .250 hitter with 35 homer pop. A guy like that isn't going to anchor an entire lineup.

The Yankees are scary, but again it will be neck and neck.

As for Willis, I think every sox fan should be hoping we don't trade for him because the Marlins will get the better end of that deal. Especially with the kind of talent Willis has its very easy to over pay for pitching. Lester and Pedroia is way too much.

Well I'm afraid some of you are looking at this with rose colored glasses. If DiNardo's sorry ass performance so far tonight doesn't sicken you I don't know what could. If he makes even one more start for us the season is as good as ruined because this guy simply cannot pitch in the Big Leagues. He throws puss and everytime you look at him on the mound he's pitching from a stretch or watching a ball go through the infield for another hit. Is the guy sleeping with the owner's daughter. Please, for the good of the team and the good of DiNardo send the guy down to Pawtucket. Sorry Lenny, you suck.

It was a thread, just made a merge.

But Pettitte has been in contact with Rocket and believes he will be back in Houston if he pitches at all. I'm starting to think that all he wanted was for the Astro's to make a competitive offer and he was going to sign back there. For awhile I was optimistic, not anymore. I think he is an astro.

EEI is reporting that Clemens descision will come next week and it is between the Red Sox and Astros with the Astros holding a slight advantage.

Jsing, I think we are wasting our time in the Clemens hunt. I hark back to the old saying that "you can't go home again." Roger was once a Red Sox stalwart; that was years ago and he has put it behind him and moved on. So have we. Personally, I think it would be a great capping to his career to return to Fenway and lead the Red Sox to the World Series triumph he almost led us to in '86. That's movie stuff, though. Of course, I wouldn't mind it at all if he suddenly decided to come "home" that you would remind me of how way off the charts I was on this thing. It wouldn't bother me a bit.

Raajaa is just using the Sox to squeeze more money out of the team that wouldn't offer him arbitration. This isn't about baseball, it's about banking.
