No, we're not bitching about you guys buying a championship. At least for me personally, i'm bitching about some of you guys bitching about how we buy championships when you guys just bought one 2 years ago. Please, buy away. I do not care about that. But tell your Sox friends not to be hypocritical and get mad at the Yankees for "buying" championships.

Damn, you're an *******. What the hell do you have up your ass?

Apparently the North Vietnamese stuck something up there....:D

look what i started.. no yankee fans were bitching about the sox "buying".. i stated that i wouldn't like getting clemens because it would feel like we are "buying" a championship.. the sox usually are not the team to go out there and sign the biggest bat on the market (other than manny). i just think it would feel like we are buying a championship, much more than signing a player off free agency. it's a 15 mill 1/2 year rental.

Jsing, I think that was uncalled for. Yes, I got my Brandon's mixed up. My mistake, but you don't have to infer that I don't know what I'm talking about concerning the Red Sox' farm system. I know all about Pedroia, Lester, Ellsbury, Lowrie, Hansen, Soto and the rest of the crowd. I made an honest mistake and you could have showed a little more class in setting me straight. I'm a little disappointed in you for that.

This stuff about buying championships does confuse me a little because I think all teams try to buy their way to a title. Some just do it better than others. Spending money for ballplayers who can put you over the top is the name of the game. We did in 2004 when he "bought" Foulke to close for us and made that "trade" with Arizona for Schilling that was nothing more than highway robbery. You can also buy a title by trading some of your prospects for established players. Yes, we Red Sox fans get upset sometimes that George Steinbrenner can spend money like water, but, face it, it how wise you spend the money and how careful you are in getting the right mix of players that can spell success or not. The Yankees haven't won since 2000, and in the interum the Angels, Marlins, D.Backs, White Sox and us have gotten the big prize. To me that means these teams spent wisely, and not necessarily outspend anyone. This Roger Clemens watch will be determined mostly by money but there will be more involved. Roger wants to win a championship in his last year and I just think he will pick the team that offers him the best chance of getting it. I hope it is the Red Sox but it could be some other club. My friends, I would really like your opinions on this because I think one or two people here have put too much emphasis on just money alone.

ive said it before and il say it again i dont want roger on this team ,how can a guy come halfway to the season and pitched great especially at his age , and also the comment he said about a month ago that he is tired of playing this game , i dont want a guy that dosent know whether he wants to play or not . also it wouldnt surprise me that he would get rocked like randy is getting rocked at the moment

Red Sox Rules. it is quite possible Roger might just decide enough is enough and hang them up once and for all. If he does that your worry will be over; he won't be playing. What if he decides to pitch one more time around? Clemens, whether we like it or not, is one helluva physical speciman. He works arduously at his craft and doesn't spare himself in his workouts getting ready for a season and he might be just the pitcher to make the difference in the pennant race. OK, you don't was him on our team, but if you believe we can get to the World Series with what he have now I find that a littl questionable. We don't have a fifth starter worthy of its name, our fourth starter had another meltdown yesterday, and Wakefield is just rounding into form. We could send Papelbon into the rotation and he would be very good there in my opinion, but would you trust Foulke to be the closer the way he's pitched the last year and a half? Fact is we don't sign Roger we have to get another pitcher or two (starter and reliever) from somewhere because most of us know that Beckett and Schilling cannot carry the load by themselves.

You only need 4 starters in the playoffs, if we make it there

very very true

and you only need 2 good ones to win it all

ask the yankees

they can tell you how arizona and florida beat them with just 2 arms

There's an online article on Newsday.com that claims Clemens will sign with Houston, possibly as soon as today. (Note: the sources aren't named.)

Roger Clemens is making yet another comeback with the Houston Astros, Newsday has learned. An announcement is expected as soon as today.

Clemens, 43, has signed a one-year deal that is believed to be worth about $3.5 million per month, which will probably equate to about $10.5 million for the season, depending on when exactly he returns to action.

I posted this before I saw the other thread...oops!

Monsterman, this is where I am worried about the post-season. I just don't think we can count on the Wild Card this year. The White Sox, Guardians, and Tigers are all playing well in the Central Division and any of those three could fashion a record better than the second team in our division this year. For that reason, we HAVE to finally win our division. To do that, Wells must give us his best last seasonal effort, Alvarez has to step up and pitch like a solid rookie, and Clement must start pitching period. Aside from that, we must hope they can do the job or we have to look to a trade or two to get the strength we need to win the Al East and advance to the Playoffs. That is as far as my thinking takes me on this subject.

Everyone is denying the report---clemens agent, astros owner and gm,ect.... so who knows??? If true i hope clemens likes finishing his career in the regular season because him coming there doesn't make the astros a playoff team!

Peter Gammons said tonight that the deal will be complete in the next 24-48 hours. Now that it looks like Roger is an Astro, do the Red Sox go after a guy like Wood? Who would the Red Sox have to trade to the Cubs to get him?

I really don't know if we would go after Wood, but if that is the case I am sure with the way the Cubs are playing we would give them some pretty good prospects.

Posted
A healthy Woods would be a boon to the Red Sox; a disabled one would be a curse. Which one is he? Is he now healthy? And who are we going to have to give up for him? They are looking for a second baseman and that means possibly Dustin Pedroia and if that's sthe case I say absolutely no, no, no, and no!!! Dustin is the type of players that can win a lot of games for you because of what he brings on the field, a good young hitter who can play either middle infield position, can run, and has a contagious spirit that brings out the best in a team. He must NOT be traded.

Why would you want Kerry Wood? So he can join David Wells, and Matt Clement on the disabled list?

Anyway, I'm assuming that Jim Hendry would want Adam Stern. He's another low-OBP speedster they can plug at the top of their lineup.

kerry wood

another big game failure from texas who spends more time on the dl than on the field.

will they take clement straight up??

if so pull the trigger, maybe kick in lenny dinardo

but we know the idiots who run that franchies wouldnt even sink to that level right??

Daaaaaaaaaaamn I wish this was 5 years ago, I'd have loved to see Wood here then. But, unfortunately, Wood now is damaged goods. (Thanks Dusty Baker, for ruining one of the best young pitchers in the game.) I'd trade one of the big prospects like Pedroia for a guy like Kazmir...but I just can't pull the trigger on a guy who's had a history of injury problems. Now, if the Cubbies just wanted Clement and Dinardo for Wood, I'd say go for that...those guys suck :)

From ESPN.com

$12.25 million if he rejoins Houston in late June. The tentative goal is to have him start against the Minnesota Twins on June 22; if he's put on the big league roster that day, he would earn $12,632,307.

Although we are disappointed that Roger Clemens will not be joining the Red Sox, we are glad that we went through the process and reconnected as an organization with Roger," the Red Sox said in a statement. "We wish him the best of luck with Houston and in the National League. When Roger's career does come to an end, we will welcome him to Fenway Park and will forever consider him to be a legendary and beloved member of the Boston Red Sox."

Boss Man of the Nation, we agree on that all the way. I am of the opinion that we are going to have to make some decisions right away, though. If Wells cannot come back fast and Clement is still in his funk we could be in serious trouble. Now we have lost Pena with a wrist injury and Loretta is out again tonight. Man, I hope we can make it through June. I hope Theo is on the phone right now.

Crespo, first let me say I enjoy reading your posts. You're cyncical as hell and entertaining to read, but maybe you missed my point. I said "IF" Woods was checked out and was completely healthy. Otherwise, no dice. You have to admit, though, the pitching we have right now is not going to get the job done unless Beckett and Schilling pitch lights out the rest of the season, Wakefield is back in top form, and Wells can take his place in the rotation. Clement? Well, we can pray on that one.

as my sainted mother used to say

""s*** in 1 hand and pray in the other sean patrick

see which fills 1st.....""

that being said

it was refreshing not being down 6 runs to start a game, that kid gutted out 4.1 yesterday and that van buren guy gets people out too

all i ask for is a chance to compete

clement and wake and len dinardo failed to give us a chance

we all know its a different game for a pitcher up 6 as opposed to down 6

nice W last night,we needed it

roger who??

i dont know about clement being better than that

we were down 6-0 after clement pitched what?? 2innings?

clement gets 7M to pitch

this kid got big league meal money for the day and at least gave them a chance

he isnt the answer obviously but as i said it was nice not being down 6 runs before the beer got warm

He was a lot more competitive than Clement was. I'd rather see Pauley pitch every 5th day at this point instead of Clement.

Hey guys, it isn't any great shakes of accomplishment to say the kid did better than Clement did the night before. Clement sucked big time; Pauley was barely adequate but got the job done for four innings. Let's face it, the jury is still out on David; I do think he is a better choice than DiNardo who has nothing in the way of Major League stuff and is a batting practice machine. Alvarez? He is reputed to me a real competitor but he throws a lot like DiNardo and if he isn't picture perfect could also get lit up. The problem is Clement. The guy has great stuff but cannot go out there and win consistently. I used to have those types when I coached baseball and I always made it a point to get rid of them as soon as the opportunity presented itself. Then there were the other types, the ones that rose to the occasion and wanted the ball in the tough spots. That is what we need for the Red Sox, some pitchers with balls to go out there and stick it to the opposition.

Crazy s*** about #21...

Apparently, the Red Sox appealed to the sentimental side of Roger Clemens more than we know. According to agent Randy Hendricks, the club’s final offer to the pitcher who made No. 21 famous in Boston was a one-year contract worth precisely $21,000,021.
