Watch the catcher and watch where the pitches are going. If he is missing the target, he is missing it out of the zone instead of in the zone.

So, he's lacking control?

single for "mvp" crosby.
I don't get that one. I saw ESPN was all over his jock strap during the preseason. Why in the hell was he picked for MVP?

I'll never understand sportswriters.

they said if the a's won, he would be the mvp. they didnt even say anything about performance. the guy is a quality player, but he doesnt have especially good skills, a .280, 20 homer, maybe 10 steal guy.

did kendall just steal second?
yep, It seems as if Guidry and Torre have told him to forget about the baserunners and worry about your pitches. I dont care if they steal 7 bases, getting RJ back on track is much more important. He finishes his night strong and although his overall #s arent that great, he fought back and came through. I hope he builds off this, because for 5 innings he looked like the guy we have always wanted. Too bad for inning #1....

6IP 8H 1BB 4K. That's how I know he is back.

from 2nd inning on... 5IP 1ER 4H 3K 0BB. I hope he keeps it up. His next start is in Shea....

Say it ain't so Joe? The "immortal Melky Cabrera with an ofer? Must be a typo.

And threw a runner out at the plate.

It's hilarious how afraid you are of this guy.

Maybe its all mental, but A-Rod is looking lost defensively this season thus far. Last season in 162 games he committed just 12. In 35 games, he's already halfway to that mark with 6.

He is streaky in all phases of the game....

Is Manny worth his $$?

Probably not...

To argue salaries that were inflated years ago is a paper argument... is Arod the best at what he is? Yah Id take him over any infielder in the game.

You can thank the ground you walk on for the fact that Manny got so much $$ when he did... he saddled the Sox and has been untradeable and a monster at the plate.. lets face it Manny and Arod are 2 of the top 5 players in the game.. are they overpaid? Sure..

This whole theory of these guys not getting 20 M again when their deals are up is ludicrous..

Manny and arod will both get 20M +

The market has gotten smaller.. the $$ available by a select few has not.

The highest paid player in the game and the acknowledged best SS should be playing SS and the Prima Dona should be playing 2B. 3B is a more natural position for Cano. This would make the Yankees very strong up the middle. Riv you can give me all the lame excuses why they don't do this, but don't bother because I am glad that they don't. Let the Diva stay at SS and Cano at 2B with their two-step range in either direction and let the hit parade up the middle continue.

what do you mean you know he is back? he sucked , he is no where near what his velocity used to be and his avg K's per game is only 4 , he cant strike people out anymore , i was looking at the schedual and its to bad the mets have an off day tomorow cause it would have been randy against pedro however there will be a pedro VS mussina on saturday should be a good one

Pedro vs Mussina is probably the better match up anyway.

did you watch the game? I take it you didnt. He isnt going to throw 99 mph anymore, we saw that last season. But, he was consistently at 94-95 against the A's yesterday. Also, if you look at his recent stretch, take a look at his BB totals, those are telling. In his first 3 starts, he had 1 BB. In his last few starts he had 12+. His control was off. The fact that he walked the first batter and didnt walk anyone after that shows me that his control is there. Listen, I am not anywhere near close to betting on one of his games, so dont consider me someone who thinks he is a guy who will K 12 and pitch a shutout here, but trust me on this one, he is on his way back. I could see a 6-7IP 2-3R performance in his next start with progressive improvement after that. He did this to us last yr too. He starts out of the gate hot, hits a horrible cold spell making us all hate his guts, then he turns it on. He'll find it again...

and you get him next year for a mere 16m

37m on next years payroll for rj wright pavano&vasquez and mussinas a free agent?

the a's cant hit for s***

jarret wright shut them out

when was the last time wright shut anyone out??

game 7 1997 in the bronx??

thats the last 1 i remember, seems like hes been dl'd since...

rj??

hes got old timers disease

he cant get warm in the ny spring.

he did this last year as well, bounced back over the summer and pitched great then faded into the ny fall with a whimper

this is about as good as it'll get for him i fear

hes lost the kick in his slider

he resembles an old man who lost his bus pass and is angry at everyone except father time, the real culprit here...im not saying hes done, hes got enuff experience to work 12-15 wins in that lineup...but against good pitching??

he'll need to regain some of that magic thats alluded him so far this season

i made the mistake of writing him off for dead last season

he aint dead just yet however at 42,with his frame, its a miracle he can still walk erect

He did have a similar stretch last yr.

Last 4 starts- 21.1IP 17ER 13K 12BB 26H

3 starts in april last yr after he beat the sox- 20IP 14ER 19H 21K 3BB

The huge difference on there is the walks. Yeah the K's are a little down, but for a guy who walked 47 in 225.2IP last yr, having 12 in 21.1IP is alarming. The fact that he walked one and didnt walk any after the first batter of the game makes me think he is on his way back. His K totals are definitely showing that his dominance is waning, but that has more to do with his slider not sliding than anything. His fastball is actually faster this yr than it was at this junture last yr....

sox hit 8hrs off him last season

he lost to kc milwaukee tampa and the mets and sure he was 5-0 against us but lets face it

he had 1 great start against us and it was in september i believe, the rest of his starts he was certainly beatable

i saw him in may? when rent and payton took him yard and millar hit the top of the wall

the sox won that game but somehow rj didnt factor in the decision.

i was there in july when he beat us 7-4 and we left 10 on base in the 1st 6 innings and ran out of 2 innings with bases loaded gaffs....if i recall proper...

hes randy johnson,a tall lean man who can no longer throw the slider or scare the s*** out of lefties or dominate the game as he once did.

he'll get his wins based on experience, the yank lineup and the fact that there are some real s***** teams out there in baseball but lets not pretend hes an automatic W anymore because hes pretty much been removed from that status based on the last 2 years pitching in nyc
