thats a fact

damon cant put boston behind him unfortunetly for him and the team giving him 50+m

you can sense the regret and its only a matter of time before his wife ends up in an R kelley golden shower video with sheffs wife

mussina?

outstanding effort in keeping ny alive till their bats woke up

people

this is why we love this game like we do,sure it was only 1 game but if boston shows up and takes out rj and moose in back to back nites in the bronx??

Or the fact that Nomar was here for 7 and 1 half years. He won 2 batting titles, 5 time allstar and if not for injuries he would have been a hall of famer. He will probally go into the Red Sox hall of fame

this dog will never appear in the sox halloffame for a variety of reasons

bailing out on his teamates in the bronx on that july evening 2 years ago being 1 of them

being too fukin stupid and too fukin greedy to accept 60m for 4 years being another..

then theres the criteria of having to spend your entire career in boston AND make mlb's hall of fame to become eligible for the red sox hall of fame

Chacon has been great so far and his ability to get out of jams is unprecedented, but Manny loves his style of pitching, so he will have a big day today. Chacon is a 2 seamer, slow curve, changeup guy who will throw the curve at about 60mph, and Manny loves that. For us, I think Cabrera will hit Wake well because he is a slap hitter, so his addition to the lineup may, for one game, make up for the loss of sheff. Its hit or miss for wake against us. He was solid last game but we were getting to him, and I think we get him in this one. I am calling a bullpen war in this one, 7-6, 8-6, something like that. Should be fun...

I would expect another close game but thats what I thought between Beckett and Johnson. You really think Cabrera can hit Wake?? Has he ever faced a knuckleball before?? If not I find that hard to believe but anything is possible. I would expect more of the same from the Yanks lineup where the top of the order does well.

As far as the Red Sox....if Youkilis and Loretta can have big games then the Red Sox should score well. Overall I think whichever pitcher can throw strikes and not get in trouble with the count and walks will win the game.

I believe you only have to spend 10 years in Boston (not entire career) and go into the Hall of Fame as a Red Sox. So no, unless he goes back for another few years, Nomar has no shot.

I'm pretty sure the 10+ and HOF criteria are for retiring a number, not the Sox HOF.

My mistake. I figured the two went hand in hand.

This isnt good. My power's been out all nihgt (until now, obviously) so i've been sitting in the car listening to the game on the radio. Sterling and Waldman had Sam Borden (Daily News beat writer) on and they were talking about the possibility of acquiring an outfielder and specifically mentioned Shannon Stewart and less likely, Torii Hunter.

Expect those teams to hold a ransom for those players considering how the yankees are in a bind.

Right, but there also looking to dismantle the team and try to trade away the big salaries. But you're absolutely right. The price just went up with Matsui landing on the DL tonight.

thats it

i came on early just to talk mj off the roof

matsui hurt...badly i may add

every pitcher they used sans mussina got hit badly, very badly

only some excellant defense in the outfield and several acts of God stopped another double digit beating

4 games outta 19 and the sox appear to better

its may 12

i believe the only year since 1998 the sox werent in 1st place on 6-1 was......2004

Actually, Tito gave Nomar the day off, he had played for like 7 straight games and was coming off a severe injury, I think they will change the 10+ years rule, because of players like Pedro, Manny and Nomar

if you recall it was a 12 inning affair and we were playing for 1st place..

to show how sullen and miserable nomie was at the end

consider this

their shortstop busted his face open chasing a ball 5 rows in the stands and came out bloody

our shortstop refused to pinch hit and sat by himself in the corner of the dugout??

damn shame about shemp

well theyve got a tremendous farm loaded with talent dont they??

melky and bubba and bernie and judas should be able to cover the vast green of the yanks outfield...

now, instead of needing just a starting rotation and middle relief, they need a couple outfielders??

this is where sheffield can become a rather large pain in the ass for them

Calling up Kevin Reese is a mistake. He's good and all, and takes a bad wrap for not doing so hot last year, and will probably one day serve as a Shane Spencer type player, but Kevin Thompson is who should have been called up. He's quick, can steal bases, plays a good outfield, and does a decnet job at the plate, and the fact that he had a great spring training should mean something.

Good pitching, Good defense, timely hitting. Good win tonight vs Oakland. Aside from Mo getting into a little trouble in the ninth, very positive game for us. 2-0 Final Score.

Pavano exits rehab start early

NEW YORK -- Carl Pavano made his second rehab start on Friday night, leaving after 63 pitches with tightness in his right biceps.

Pitching for Double-A Trenton against Bowie, Pavano allowed one run on three hits in six innings, striking out six without issuing a walk. Pavano had been scheduled to throw about 90 pitches in the outing.

Rich Monteleone, the team's special pitching instructor, was at the game monitoring Pavano, and he made the decision to cut Pavano's night short.

"Monty said that although he was throwing well, his bicep was getting a little tight," said general manager Brian Cashman. "Monty pulled the plug; he wanted to be cautious."

Finally some good news...

GM Brian Cashman said that there "is no cause for concern whatsoever on Gary Sheffield" and surgery is not an option at this point.

Asked if Gary Sheffield's sprained wrist is more serious than previously believed, Cashman replied, "No, we've had two hand specialists review his stuff and surgery's definitely not an issue at all." There is no timetable for Sheff's return, but he'll likely be back sometime next week. May. 13 - 10:17 am et
