  1. So, no WSC in the past 7 years? Is that what the new standard is?
  2. Were there two 'Laws'? I remember one of them posting these 1,000 word screeds that he must have stayed up all night writing. I remember thinking how badly his head must have exploded when we won the WS in 2007. Of course, a few of them survived long enough to complain about 2013 and 2018, and 2026, 2027, 2028, etc.
  3. If I had a dollar for every time you mentioned the name Inepstein or Francoma, I'd own the RS. And both guys will be 1st ballot HOFers.
  4. This is why I always recommend saving while young, if you can. The investments, even in a mundane market, can grow real quickly. And if you are laid off in your mid-50s, there is a pretty good chance you aren't getting your previous salary anymore. And once you've banked enough, you can work without a care in the world.
  5. Just a couple of thoughts. I think last year hurts Bregman a little. His bat looked good, but the injury will remind GMs that he will be 32 this year. We'll be a better team with Bregman, but it is worth mentioning that we will be better with any $25M player.
  6. Hopefully there is a nice retirement package available. I know two people that just got laid off. One was at retirement age, and was just wondering when. The other was 5-6 away from retirement anyway, so they basically just paid him to stay home. I didn't really care, but I was hoping that, when I walked into my boss's office with my retirement letter, he'd tell me, 'Sorry Joe, but you gotta go. And here is your 10-month severance'. And there's Joey, stuffing his retirement letter into the shredder.
  7. Given that we have 4 WSC since the early 2000's, I feel pretty okay about that argument.
  8. I want my Raiders to draft the guy that hit him.
  9. It's funny that you mention Mexico, for two reasons. The first is that I thought everyone in Texas was from Mexico:). The second is I was going to mention the same thing. When I went to HS, a long time ago, every Latino was Puerto Rican. During our reunion, I was talking to one of them. For some reason, he told me he grew up in the housing on 136th. I said '136th & Alexander?" He says yeah. I told him that the city tore down my house to build that housing complex, and that he stole my land. I was kidding, but I thought it was fascinating that we both started off on the same plot of land. FWIW, The Bronx is the ultimate 6 degrees of separation.
  10. That leaves us with two guys (Bello & Tolle) that might be part of our regular rotation in 2026, and probably definitely part of our 2027 rotation. That would make our 2027 rotation: Crochet Webb Early Gray (maybe) Witherspoon, Harrison, Sandlin, etc. I don't think I'd do it, but I also don't think it is that far off. Unfortunately, SF won't trade their ace whether or not it makes sense.
  11. I'm on record many times that JH should spend to a dollar of the second tier. I just see no point of complaining about it. And I am going to enjoy the season regardless if he spend $240M or $260M.
  12. I'm not sure you can make a case for trading for a player that was never traded.
  13. When I went to HS, my family had already moved to the north Bronx, but I still went to HS in the South Bronx. It was fairly evenly split back then when it was 1/3 black, white, and Latino. When I returned for my 50th reunion, it was all black and Latino. The kids were so much more mature than when I went there. The 50th guys were introduced last at the graduation, and these kids were coming out of their seats to shake hands and high-five us. It was one of the most moving things I've ever been involved with.
  14. My daughter played AAU. Probably about 1/3 white, black and Latino. I'd bet that almost all of them are successful. Tough, but nice. Very focused. When my daughter showed up for a scholarship exam for one of the Manhattan schools, half the team was there taking the exam. Very interesting dynamics.
  15. Can the moderator please let Randy know his account has been hacked? His previous 127 posts were some version of JH being cheap. The new Randy doesn't seem to care.
  16. 0.2 fWAR, depending on how you treat Scherzer.
  17. I predicted Alonso going to the RS in the top-50 contest. But I think that the teams that sign guys earlier, are paying a premium to close the deal. IMO, if the Os only offered $110M/4, then Alonso has no motivation to sign. It should work the opposite as time drags on. Teams that are interested in Bregman won't wait until March to make up his mind.
  18. I agree. I make up my own mind, but adding up WAR v salaries is how I come to a conclusion. BTV does the same thing. But like any calculation, put it aside for a day, and see if it still makes sense in the morning.
  19. When you grow up in the Bronx, you learn life's lessons. You grow up in a schoolyard where you learn to get along with all sorts of people. No one cares about your opinion. Or your feelings. If you're not on the court, it's because you lost, and the only alternative is to get better. Bumping into people is not cause for a grievance. Lots of stuff which will make you better.
  20. Absolutely. I feel strongly that, if we sign Bregman at the price/deferrals I mentioned, that Bregman will out-perform Alonso on a dollar-for-dollar basis. FG projects Bregman as 1 fWAR better in 2026. I'm not sure how the aging curves will project that advantage over 5 years, but I am pretty comfortable wagering that Bregman's WAR/$$$ will exceed Alonso's.
  21. I believe in two things. 1-Everyone should spend a year in the Bronx. 2-Everyone should be forced to identify with a Star Trek race before they identify with a political party.
  22. The number I calculated above, $25.34, is only ~ $1M more than the $24.23M that Cots says we have available before the 2nd line. On a contract with a $160M gross, that should be easy to find. The the Frederation can revert back to 'why is Henry too cheap to sign a #2?'.
  23. This relates back to one of my earlier comments. Some fans think the JH is cheap because he won't sign their favorite player. And their favorite player is usually the shiniest object, not the best value or the best fit.
  24. And imho, we shouldn't have. DH is by no means an issue. Even if Yoshi disappeared, Duran would step in. Improving DH ranks a distant 3rd to adding either a 2B or 3B, plus adding a #2 SP.
