  1. I'll gladly acknowledge that anyone 'could' be using, but I don't see anything compelling about Walker. The guy has always been really big. And the Cards development team gave him the Jo Adell treatment. Walker got promoted at age 20, with no AAA ABs. Almost no one can succeed at that level.
  2. IMHO, it is so much more than that. I feel a Papi vibe. He plays smart BB, on a team that, well, enough said. He seems to be always smiling, and that helps when you have kids that might be struggling. I'm not sure he is a great fielder, but this is like when we switched from Devers to Bregman, where you have this peaceful feeling that a GB to 3rd, with 2 outs and a guy on 1st, is actually a good.
  3. I'd be shocked if they promoted him. And I'll give you another reason not to. There is a decent chance that we will lose a pitcher to injury, or to under-performance. Or maybe shut down Early early for innings. I'd make a small wager that we'll be looking to realign our rotation in August, maybe looking for that #4 playoff starter. I still doubt Tolle will be ready in August, but that might be one of those moves that energize the team down the stretch.
  4. I don't think that applies to guys like Early. You play the service for future stars. I like Early well enough, but I'll be happy with 6 years of being a #3. I see no compelling reason to jerk him around just because you think he might become a highly-paid FA in 3032.
  5. I agree. Tolle could be really good. Don't try to shortcut it just because we need a 5th lefty in the BP.
  6. I wonder if NYY fans (5 straight losses) and TO fans (-25!), have quit for the season?
  7. So would that mean that other teams being better than us means that we're better? I only ask because the other 29 teams will combine for a .495-.505 winning % at year-end, no matter what we do.
  8. Absent Bello's and Suarez' first two starts. our ERA is 3.14.
  9. I thought Bello good. Not great, but guys like him seldom look flashy. Contreras has looked so good it's ridiculous. Anthony is a slight concern. I don't care about the stats, but he looks slightly off. IMHO, with Duran, it was only a matter of time. More importantly, that is one time through the rotation with everyone looking good. IMO, that's big. Meanwhile, TO has lost 8-10 and the NYY have lost 5 in a row. I think that's statistical noise, but some people believe in that.
  10. I don't think professional GMs weight one week as all that important. Heck, even in fantasy leagues, I'd say 98% of the GMs pay very little attention to weekly results.
  11. I agree, Except for Suarez, who just looked great. And except for Contreras, who's been one of my favorite players.
  12. Almost all the guys some fans thought were a 'must-signs' have been awful. Alonso .522 Bregman .609 Bichette .628 Paredes .682 Marte .585 Suarez .652 Schwarber .850 is the only 'okay' guy so far. And Devers is at .609. It's early but it is going to be tough to justify those contracts.
  13. That might have been the fly in the ointment. My plain olde guess here that the Houston GM thought this made so much sense for the RS, that Breslow would go through with it, even if the RS took the worst of it. I'm sure a lot of have done the same. Now Houston has Pena back and no place to play Paredes. That said, I wouldn't bet against us making a similar trade.
  14. Most of the discussions are going sideways. Just a couple of notes: It is entirely possible that Houston didn't like the Duran fit. They talked about both Alvarez and Altuve taking games in LF. To be honest, I'm not convinced that Abreu was a good choice for them, since Cam Smith looks like a promising player. Just like we like our guys, other teams like their guys. I wanted Burns, Seth Hernandez, or Bubba. But it is possible there teams wouldn't consider trading them under any conditions.
  15. Yup, that had a -0- chance, LAA doesn't trade their kids, not even the bad ones. And even the 0% speculation, we wouldn't have the prospects to make the move. 5 years of a 5-WAR player would probably start the bidding with Roman Anthony++. But, for those that dislike Breslow, it gave them an opportunity to criticize his handling of the Neto trade.
  16. IMHO, there is always a building component to a rotation. It's difficult to get all 5 on board at the same time, but with just 4 guys consistently contributing, any team can do some damage. Right now. we have maybe 2.5 SPs in the zone. I'd like to get one more decent start from Early, and then get Suarez straightened out. Bello I have worries about, but we can replace one struggling pitcher.
  17. FWIW, Durbin's OPS over the past games is .708. Projecting those three games to 600 ABs, he have 75 runs scored and 150 RBIs.
  18. IMHO, age should be considered in context with length of your contract, If you have only one year, and you're healthy, then the risk premium is much lower. But wearing down could be a consideration.
  19. I doubt any writers have serious inside information. They write for entertainment and clicks.
  20. I wouldn't have done so then, nor would I do it now, Abreu is a better player with more years of control.
  21. All legitimate reasons a guy might struggle. And to summarize, it's too early to start writing off players.
