    No to both. I like Yordie real well, but those are the top four guys in our system. We'll be receiving about 15 bWAR and likely be giving up much more. I'd be closer on the Pena, but he'll give us maybe 7.5 bWAR. Early alone is probably worth maybe 11-15 bWAR. And I like Godbout. I wouldn't hate it, but I wouldn't do it.

    Impossible to answer for a couple of reasons. What is the health status of our injured players? Having a vintage Crochet for the playoffs would put me in an aggressive mood. And to a lesser degree with Suarez and Early. Before I start trading the farm, I want to be a near-lock for the playoffs, with a chance of being in 1st. The playoff path is much slipperier if we play most of our games on the road. I'd need to who the big player is. For those three guys, the only target I see is Yordie, and even for Yordie, that is a significant cost.

    I doubt that two teams with better records than us, will be selling. We should be focusing on teams that will be selling, or maybe looking for payroll relief.

    I just want good deals. If you over pay for good talent, and miss the playoffs, or are out in the first round, then it damages the future. Basically, I'm an agnostic. Make good deals whether it involves Arias++, or a few lottery tickets.

    Anyone talking about Cora taking over the Phillies might have imbibed prematurely. Mattingly is 45-24 and would be MOTY if the vote was held today. OTOH, it feels like Cora was a much better manager than Mendoza. I don't think it is a well-constructed team, but after the 2025 collapse, and the bad 2026 start, how long do stick with the manager?

    If I add up the two sets of numbers, it looks like 17 of 29.. Pretty sure that's > .500. But if the Yankees are as bad as you think, we have a shot of catching the.

    With the usual caveat that it must be an okay deal. Don't make a bad deal just to make a deal. But past that, one of Bloom's best moves was making the Pivetta trade maybe ten days before the deadline. He took some criticism for not waiting, but imho, if you have a deal you like, take it. Don't try to get cute or cheap.

    It feels like a bit of trolling. Before the Yankees came to Boston, they had won 11 of 16. After the sweep, they won 6 of 13, including their last 4. They been weakened but are still a good team. The WS are in 1st, and have played an amazing .646 at home. LAA and the NYM are weak, but they play .457 and .429 at home. This is a very good streak.

    I wonder if he can still catch. He had 1500 innings in the minors. Having someone with nominal catching skills being a 3rd stringer, adds a tiny bit of value.

    I don't go overboard on these guys because it might take a week or two for scouts to get a book on them. But the difference between June and July is probably mostly related to BABIP (.433 v .143). Regressing both back to .300, his OPS would look more like .693 for June and .829 for July. At this sample size, almost anything could make up the difference.

    I know it's impossible to ignore all the extraneous noise, but the peripherals are fine. 15/8 K/W is acceptable BABIP of .293 is about right HR/FB is actually slightly low at 10% 88.4 EV (FG differs from BR) is fine FB%, glove, and speed are all okay Basically, I don't see any disqualifiers here (SSS disclosure).

    I'm back to my Psyche 101 renderings, but I think Posey will want to look good, at least on paper, in his next trade. Story + KC will just like more l/t payroll. I have an interest, but those backloaded contracts are a bear to deal with. SF got two good years for really good money. Now they have to pay the price by having 5 declining years at very serious money. Just off the top of my head, if I had to sign him, I'd offer him maybe $110M/5. That means SF owes me $46M. I My pure guess is that Posey is going down with the ship on this one.

    KC-Lane Thomas (modest interest) LAA-Adell Lefty-masher, with 1.5 years left, 2 HRs in 15 Fenway ABs (moderate interest) Cincy-Steer (a lot of interest) SF-Arraez-Perfect fit BA-Ward-Hitting a little better recently, does well against lefties BA-Our old friend Tyler O'Neill. .876 since he start of June. Lefty masher. Good Fenway history. Will need BA to kick in serious salary. These include only teams that I deem to be sellers at this point. That list should enlarge in a couple of weeks. A lot depends on price. Thomas and Adell might cost little more than salary relief. Steer and Arraez will cost us large, but non-premium prospects. Ward and TON might require a couple of lesser prospect, more quantity than quality.

    Just to play devil's advocate, his hitting improved since they gave up the catching experiment. Between 2024-25, he averaged .254 with 20 HRs and a 136/116 K/W. I never expect much from career prospects, but someone had mentioned Holt, and I'd be pretty happy with that.

    We're making this too complicated. There is no reason to trade for an SP or a CF. Just find a good RH DH/LF. Or a good OBP SS to lead off, if they exist. Don't worry about extending players. Most long-term contracts don't work out. And the big-name players that we want? Everyone wants them, including their own team. And in this case, look for teams looking to sell. MN is ahead of us in the standings.

    Pena will be 30.5 years old at the start of his next contract. Not an ideal age for a long-term contract.

    It's bad down here in NY. I went for a walk I wanted to get in before it started raining. Turns out that those weren't rain clouds. And the smell wasn't someone BBQing. This feels like far worse than it was a few years ago. It's dark outside now.

    There were only 3 of those in BB last year. One is Springer, who is unlikely to ever revert. The other two are Judge and Ramirez.

    What has been speculated is that Houston might be moving to get under the cap. I assume Houston is picking up most of McCullers salary, so they still need to cut payroll. Pena and Paredes both make $9M+. That might Houston more amenable to moving them.

    Walker is a ghost. He's not being traded. ed: I looked at the top-30 FG players by wOBA, and the only player that might be on the block is Greene. I doubt that Detroit would trade him, and they already have McGonigle at SS.

    We don't have the farm for a 2.5+ premium player, unless the other team is moving salary. The guy you are describing might be Abrams, and even if he were to be traded, it would cost Arias, Witherspoon+. How many teams even trade premium players with 2.5+? If this was a 1st place team, I'd feel differently. But we are aiming at a WC, with three on the road, with no certainty of having Crochet back.

    This is my typical apropos of nothing, but according to B-R: We have 17.9 bWAR on offense, of which, 7.9 comes from newbies. We have 8.1 bWAR, on pitching, of which, 5.1 comes from newbies. That's exactly 50%.
