  1. Brent Rooker doesnt get enough love. Would love to have him if we cant get Schwarber.
  2. My initial reaction was pretty close to this. The cons, initially, were 1. 20m off the "40m budget" and 2. we gave a chip for a 1 yr pitcher at 36 yrs old But in a world where borderline #4 starters are getting (and sometimes rejecting) the QO, it really shows that you just have to pay a significant AAV premium for a short term contract, especially a 1 yr contract. No way we could have gotten Sonny as a FA for a 1 yr deal less than the QO. So there was value in the trade, and looking into Clarke, his top 2 secondaries are horizontal movement pitches, which generally means great vs lefty not as much vs righty (reliever risk), and his fastball plays down (per soxprospects). I can live with it, and with all the pitches we have on 40 man, I dont think Fitts was surviving the crunch anyways. So its a good deal. Gray with his still elite peripherals (no way to cast #1 in K/BB as anything but elite), is prob still a solid #2 , albeit just a 1 yr fill-in. But he'll fill in well I suspect. And we arent going to hard stop at 20m from here (40m total), I dont think this takes us out of the running for one of the four FA (Bregman, Bichettte, ALonso, Schwarber). Doesnt mean we'll for sure get one, and I am worried about "out of nowhere" teams coming in and grabbing a few of these guys (e.g. the Giants, or a small market team with new owners who want to change their perception). But I dont think the 20m for Gray really impacts the likelihoood here. So I like the move. Full stop. Whereas initially I was an "I like the move, but... That "but" is no longer there for me
  3. Because they have shown that they would rather commit high AAV on short term contracts than commit to years.
  4. Narvaez really tailed off at the end there. But I find them to be very similar, prob slight edge going to Realmuto (expecting some positive mean-regression). But they both are below average framers, with arm, prob about average defensively. And they are both prob around 15 HR pop which is nice to have from a catcher. But I lean towards the upgrade not being worth the $$ Now if they strike out on Bregman and Alonso and Schwarber, we might get into a take offense anywhere we can get it territory, and maybe then But I dont think JT should be a priority. In no universe does he sit behind Narv tho, Narv would likely go to AAA or trade.
  5. Its not that.
  6. Reports are you have become a more credible source since you changed your picture away from shocked face Mo.
  7. I like the move, but if they are over this year (assuming CBT does not reset) then that means theyll have to dip below pretty soon, which means they'll watch the future commitments they give out this year, and if its Gray and a bunch of short term commitments (meaning not great players), then IM not sure its enough to finish better than third.
  8. I dont operate scared. Short term contracts = scared money
  9. If the penalties reset, okay. They dont need to get under next year, and understand Grays contract comes off. But still , if they have to get under soon, that that means more short term deals and I dont like em.
  10. Now I see what the problem is with Bowdens tweet.
  11. We're bringing back the providence grays
  12. I dont see much wrong with this commentary, Cards shave 20m and get a prospect. I do feel they could have done better and this might slightly favor us. But 36 yrs old, 1 yr, I dont think they could have gotten much more than Clarke. Fitts was a DFA anyways and actually adds value to the deal for me (because it keeps the 40 man roster count neutral). Fitts was a guy who wasnt going to survive the 40 man roster crunch, and Gray has a sweeper and a cutter, two "in" pitches with a sinker and only throws his 4 seam like 22% so smells like a breslow guy. I like the move in a vacuum. My only concern is that now if you get Bregman/Alonso , its hard to see them dipping under the tax this year. And I dont really love going into a season knowing that we'll have to dip below a tax soon cuz that means budget cuts coming eventually. And Im not certain this team is good enough to warrant kicking the "get below the tax" can down the road. Now if htey are just like whatever about the tax and the repeater penalties, great!
  13. Moon: Who will be the first shoe to fall MVP: Refsnyder 1/4 Drew: thats a small shoe According to Googla/AI: US shoe size of 1/4 is typically a very small infant size. It corresponds to a foot length of approximately 3.5 inches and can vary slightly depending on the brand and specific size chart. Infant size: Size 1/4 is an infant size, often for babies between 3-6 months old.
  14. Baesball needs a fight.
  15. In hockey, they wont wear facecages because they want to fight. In baseball, you arent allowed to make eye contact with the other team.
  16. S-A-W-F-T Where is big cass when you need him?
  17. They just wanna use the uberstine had to call an uber line at some point next season, when we need a 9th starter as a one game emergency fill-in in August
  18. Fair, my point was about not letting these depth options prevent us from going after talent whether that be trade or free agency. I like having talent in the minors whom we can call up when we need. So I would see no reason to rush Casas out, even though we all want to see a FA signed. Guys get hurt and I agree, he could enter the fold at DH if its unsettled when Casas returns.
  19. You can use Yoshida, Campbell, Romy, and Mayer and Casas to talk yourself out of signing anyone. But Id rather have depth and allow for some wiggle room in case one of the aforementioned doesnt seize a spot or if they have injuries. Last year, we had like 3-4 dudes off waivers starting every day. And we were never really a world series threat. So we need to improve. And guys get replaced on improving teams.
  20. I think one of Bichette/Bregman/Marte and one of Alonso/Schwarber and then you add a very solid or better pitcher, and most of us will be high fiving.
  21. Santander played 30 games at DH for them and had a .565 OPS Springer played 82 games for them at DH (highest on team) and had a .959 OPS (highest on team), post-season moments as well, The Blue Jays had a lot of contributions to their pennant from the DH spot, both in the regular season and postseason. They also had Vlad, Bichette, Varsho, and Kirk We need firepower and a lot of it, at the very least, we need to replace the production lost by Bregman and Devers. One of Bregman/Bichette/Marte (trade) AND Schwarber will do that. Of course, there are other players in the league who can hit as well. But if we go forward with Yoshida/Romy platoon, 1) Romy is probably our best hitter, so I hope hes playing a position when hes not DH'ing against lefties and 2) We'll need to add at least a few blue chip mashers elsewhere or we will be noodlebat city and sellers at the deadline.
