  1. This is a good point. I mean why have good baseball players when you can a bad one for cheaper. Might even be slightly younger!
  2. Get in where you fit in. Want who wants you. If you cant get the one you love, love the one you got. If Bregman is noncomittal and Alonso is barking up our tree exclusively, we should pivot priority, ink Alonso and then keep trying with Bregman 1 in the hand over 2 in the bush [end of cliches, sorry]
  3. God, I hope not. I do think we'll make a real run at Alonso, but theyll have to get uncomfortable and Im not sure they do. Get Alonso or not, finish first or fifth. Its all kind of whatever to me. Just as long as we dont let let the condescending bootlicking history rewriters take a victory lap. I can see it now. "We signed nobody and finished in fourth! This is great! This is great! TY billionaire class for my cell phone! Ill happily give up my weekend without extra pay if it helps my billionaire heroes get a fifth yacht! Maybe one day, theyll notice me." Look at all these prospects! Wow 2030 is going to be sooo grand" You wedgie these nerds and youll always have a spot at my table.
  4. I know that trading PW would bother me less if we didnt have his brother and were thereby breaking up the brothers. I know that its silly to put value on PW because of a sop story that creates feels and its heart-warming to have 2 brothers. But Im nothing if not sappy
  5. Hows Jonafran taking it?
  6. Yes, and this is silly but I like having brothers in the org. A family affair. Like the Mary J song.
  7. Well, those are just the unexpected jumper-ins. Pitt did rumor to offer 4yrs/120m to Schwarber, so I can see them upping the bidding on Alonso if nothing else.
  8. The market is still very active for both. Pitt and Cincy and Baltimore are in the fold, and dont rule out Mets and Tigers. I dont think either of these 2 get to the point where you sign them for an amount that doesnt make you at least a little uncomfortable (whether thats an extra 2 years on the back or an extra few millions in AAV), but who knows. If Schwarber got 5 years , I have a hard time believing that Alonso and Bregman wont get at least 5. Alonso is coming off a much better season than he was last year. And prob Bregman too (at least the first half).
  9. Schwarber had reportedly multiple offers on the table around 120/4. So they added the fifth year vs competing on AAV, makes sense to me. Im bummed becasue Im a Schwarber guy but Ive recently made my peace with the fact that Bregman or Alonso are more likely.
  10. TY, I feel better now. I do think Paredes is a solid target, but Im still very high on Tolle and Early looked very good last year. Now if Early's emergence makes Dobbins expendable and we flip Dobbins for Paredes, thats a good trade IMO.
  11. I would give like Dobbins or the pitcher we just got for PW for Paredes, and Id prob do it now, because you can move him around , and therefore still pursue one of bregman or alonso or even scwarber (or marte or even bichette)
  12. I like Paredes, but thats a steep cost (tolle or early)
  13. My pont was that you had us trading for a #2 pitcher OR a big bat. And I just made a throw-a-way comment akin to "change the OR to an AND" I agree at this point, that a big bat is more needed than a TOTR starter.
  14. Yeah, and they are expensive and break too easy. I had a silicone one that you could throw in the dishwasher and couldnt break for years. It was 25$ and better than all the $200 glass ones I have broken in my life (can think of 3 off the top of my head)
  15. Or better yet Duran for a solid #2 Harrison and more for a big bat.
  16. The bold rings especially true with me. I wish people would realize how "RS fans" or "certain RS fans" or "some people here"....How condescending that comes across. And if you wanna condescend to me fine, but you GOTTA bring it. Dont follow it up with dated clichés, or non-sequiturs, or bad analytics. Being like "certain red sox fans would just trade all our prospects" or "certain red sox fans here just want to pretend there are no parameters" , and then following that up with faulty logic.....I mean, unfortunately, I learned long ago that the people who have their heels most dug in and act like they have all the answers are usually the dimmest. It use to bother me, but I have a new expression that helps and that is "a clownboy's gonna clown"
  17. I know. One of my bullets was meant to differentiate the people who are trying to be realistic and may have become a bit cynical about current and future spending (you and others) from the annoying posters who make up lies about celebrities who call out billionaire greed and cry "leave the billionaires alone, I wubbbb them and maybe they'll see this and let me in the club" I have 0 issue with you, never have. I dont see you as a boot licker.
  18. MVP seems to think , going by his words, that how Perales does in a AAA rotation will not be super correlated to how he would eventually do in an MLB rotation, so he thinks that if you use Perales in AAA you arent gaining information on him. Apologies if Ive misinterpreted.
  19. I think when they shop, they are more targeting what they are getting vs giving up. For example, if they are shopping righty power bat, and the team wants pitching, I think they let the other team take the lead with who they want. Obviously , we put boundaries in place and try to get them off players we want to keep and maybe thats Perales. Maybe thats saying , hey how about if we remove Perales and add Dobbins. But I think they are pretty opened minded and let the talks flow.
  20. If the plan is for him to start in 2027, Im not sure that having him pitch out of the pen in MLB for 2026 or having him start in AAA in 2026 - Im honestly not sure which of the two will have a stronger correlation to how he would do as a 2027 MLB starter. Another words: If he kills it in AAA as a starter in 2026 vs killing it in MLB as a reliever in 2026 - Im honestly not sure which will be a better sign for how he would do as a 2027 starter.
  21. This may be boomer on my part, but I have a hard time believing that a sinker ball pitcher has a ceiling of a #4 pitcher, but he does seem to lack put-away secondaries. Also, as a sinkerballer, I wonder how much our defense hurts him, but I guess its easy to look at his FIP vs ERA
  22. I think they have a handshake agreement with Criswell that he'll remain in the picture, maybe not add back to 40 man right away, but we know Houck at least is heading to 60 day IL
