  1. Abreu is another guy who was supposed to be burried based on soxprospects.com rankings.
  2. Good point on Bregman. Dont forget theo, haha, didnt they add him to the braintrust?
  3. You can hypothesize all you want about trading for guys and keeping them cheap, but most likely, if we trade for a bat or a pitcher who has 1-2 years left under a cheap contract, we'd prob extend them. And there goes the budget. For example, I doubt we trade for Ryan and just let him pitch for the next 2 years then walk because this coming year he may be cheap, but if the budget is 20m above where we are now, even if hes cheap, all we can really do is combined him with a mid-tier bat like Polanco. Because then hes arb3 the year after, due a big raise, and we're back in the same boat. 20m doesnt go very far, especially if you are trying keeping refsnyder and matz. ANd Duran is a good deal for 8m so flipping him to save that 8m doesnt exactly help trying to cram as much talent in with such few resources available.
  4. Its odd that there seems to be so much conflicting evidence on if we're serious about actually competing with the actual big boys I honestly dont know if its a "too many cooks in the kitchen" thing, minds-changing, intentional deception , or just complete open-mindedness (we could sign everybody, but we are just as likely to sign nobody). What they say isnt super important, but if the budget is indeed tight from here, e.g. 20m left to spend, and we're talking about flipping guys to save money so we can get that above 30m to spend, its hard to imagine that we are going to be truly competitive next year.
  5. Tatis being a great example that positions are dead.
  6. What they need are two .850 or better bats. Positions are dead.
  7. Really? Youd let a #9 hitter and a low velo #6 pitcher stop you from getting Tatis and Boegarts at 12.5m, which btw if hes above average at 3b defensively and average hitting, thats a steal.
  8. Let us know what you find, gumshoe
  9. I agree, Gleybar Torres got 22m and Bogaerts is better. Inflation is real, we'll just have a revolving door of one-and-dones at a similar AAV.
  10. Bogaerts has -80 trade value units, to Tatis' 83 I would do Cedanne, and Harrison for Bogaerts (they eat half , so hes -40 units) and Tatis
  11. I can see us dealing Early and Harrison for position player(s) and then grabbing anotehr starter. BUt I fully agree that at least one (probably more than 1) pitcher would have to be on the move for roster balancing purposes. Bello, Sandoval, Crawford, Early, Tolle, Uberstine, Drohan, Criswell, Dobbins, Harrison, Sandlin is a lot of guys competing for 2 spots (behind Crochet, Sonny, and the pitcher we would be trading for)
  12. Hope hes been putting in the time at the yoga studio, because not being a f*ing stiff isnt exactly the guys MO
  13. Well , SOMEBODY did say that Breslow is not flexible , but that somebody was sacked for it. But , I mean, going after the guy who made the charge doesnt exactly reek of innoncence.
  14. Yes, he was one of the best pitchers in MLB last year before his injury. But he really struggled upon returning ,and he carries significant injury risk.
  15. Fit Finlay? Does he have his trusty shaleleigh? Is Hornswaggle in the sidecar?
  16. I was interested for a bit becuase of the splitter but Id rather have Senga or even better yet Imai
  17. One reason is because you arent getting Marte without Early in the package, now that 30 teams are confirmed interested because "duh"
  18. Well, you should because an .800 OPS for the slowest donkey in the league who doesnt have a position is a chump. Plus he doesnt swing enough.
  19. Aristotles scientific method, ever hear of it? You have to keep other variables constant to assess one variables impact. So many changing variables heres, makes argument transparently bad-faith.
  20. Hi, you are vastly overrating Cedanne McNoodlebat the Fourth (outfielder) Swap him with Abreu, add Harrison and dont look back.
  21. Multiple things can be true, I dont think its crazy to be disappointed in the way the Red Sox have operated last 5 or so years, and its well documented that they were only willing to spend money, if they could shed money. I dont think its crazy to point to the fact that Crochet was traded for, and extended with 2 years of team control which lowered the AAV on the extension. Essentially giving up prospects/value to get an ace at an affordable AAV vs just getting an ace. Id love to have Kyle Teel right now. However, this overlooks that to "spend" the right guys have to be there. And Crochet is/was much better than anyone they could have signed in free agency. Im not sure how much the 2 years remaining on the deal, meaning they could extend at a non top rate AAV factored into getting Crochet vs purely being enamored with his talent. But despite what the red sox say (the opposite) they have been cautious with the payroll these last 5 years, and its led to some frustrating roster decisions and thats a lot why we've been below average (and thats being generous) since 2018. One ALCS appearance doesnt change that. I dont think its as much a failure to spend money as it is a complacency with just rolling over the same mediocre players year after year, but thats gotten better since Breslow. Shape up or get shipped out. Dudes are gonna get squeezed on an improving ballclub and Yoshida and Casas are next.
