  1. With only Yoshida between him and MLB, so maybe for a month or 2, I can give you that. But this team will be pushing for byes and have its eyes on winning it all, and as soon as Mayer can help that , he'll be up.
  2. thumbs dow for word "arguably" he is arguably the best position playing ranger of all time (especially if you dont count juangon), he is certainly the best ranger of today.
  3. Noboy is looking to offload Seager. They are asking for one of Tolle/Early, WITH Mayer and probably more. Dont care what BTV says. They arent dealing a hall of fame talent for salary relief.
  4. We cant afford hall of fame talent at hall of fame prices, we need it subsidized if we are ever going to get truly elite talent again = how you guys sound. Yes, we are interested in Seager. No they do not need to eat money. He is a hall of fame talent.
  5. This may be the most common used, but obvs Bregman would play some 3b and maybe even some of, alonso wouldnt always DH. You would use your versatility rather than same alignment every night. Guys would get days off, get dinged up....You would maybe not run same alignment out there against lefties and righites. So just wanna caveat - that this is the default not the set in stone positional alignment. I embrace versatility.
  6. Wow, Marte , Bregman AND Alonso. Hmmm. On that team, Im assuming an OF'er has gone in the Marte trade (lets assume Duran). So the OF is Cedanne/RA/Abreu. In this hypothetical: Mayer plays 3b, Bregman first, Alonso DHs. Marte plays 2nd. And id love it.
  7. Could use? Maybe. Probably. But guys are usually not complete when they break in. They'll have to work him against lefties and offspeed between games or as part of offseason programs. Next year, if he can play the position and hit over .730 against righties, its hard to see us doing better that that at 2b when we are already upgrading 3b and 1b. Or if youd rather , its hard to see us doing better than that at 3b when we are already upgrading 2b and 1b.
  8. Mayers stock is up , not down, right now. But because of words , so we'll see. The team really wants him to start working out. They think it will help his bat, arm, and durability. And he seems bought in.
  9. No, I may have missed some context. To me, we need Alonso and one other bat. You give up Mayer, and its 0 sum. I dont think hes bench, I dont think hes AAA. If hes either , its temporary becasue hes not a finished product, he just started lifting. Sometimes with body changes, you have to adjust. When I started working out, I started backrimming everything, but eventually my range improved.
  10. Your carrot flavored martini sounds intersting, but what about our catcher problem?
  11. If Mayer goes to AAA it will be likely because he didnt hit well in spring training. If he stays in AAA it will be because hes not hitting well in AAA (after not hitting well in spring) I doubt it, and he would have to be really bad at AAA to stay down there.
  12. Yes, I wanted Schwarber, but I agree. You cant pigeon hole yourself like that. Something about too many eggs in a basket. But here we are, and now in my opinion, we have A LOT of eggs in the alonso basket. But its fine, just get it done. Yes, we'll have to give a sixth year probs. Do it!
  13. Yes , it occurred to me last night. 6 years for Alonso gets it done, and not offering it is unacceptable.
  14. Yankees, Pittsburgh, Cincy, Baltimore, Cubs, Red Sox and 2-3 dark horse teams.
  15. Right now , process. Hes meeting with us and a few other teams. With Schwarber off the market, teams that were interested in Schwarber may jump in on him, and he wants to explore his options. Im sure he has a number that will make him sign right now. And Im sure that number is at the high end of his range.
  16. 4 x 40 for alonso gets it done if you give him an opt out after year 2. You may even get to defer some.
  17. I think Pittsburgh would pay Alonso 30m x 4. Pittsburgh. They offered it to Schwarber.
  18. Having a 128 OPS+ year when before that the numbers pointed to a declining OPS trend, and having that 128 OPS+ buck the trend, adds value. There was a reason Bregman opted out. You dont get to decide what hes worth. You beat the market or you dont get him. Schwarber's contract increased the future contracts of Alonso and Bregman. By coming off the board (supply vs demand). By getting 5 years. And if you choose to sit it all out, and re-enter next year - guess what? Inflation only goes one way, bruh
  19. Alonso and Breg vs Schwarber I honestly think that because they are perceived as "field takers" is a wash with the reality that Schwarber is a better hitter than both. But because Alonso and Breg are younger, theyll get more.
  20. If we're honestly talking about only adding Suarez, then we should get started on the selling and eye 2032.
  21. Hes older than those 2, and age matters a lot.
  22. Some weird stuff happened to Bregman last year, and despite his injury he did rebuild some value vs where he was last year. But remember, he could have signed 5 yrs for like 170 with Houtson, he just turned it down becuase he thought he could get 200m, they moved on - and it was deep in FA and his options were limited.
  23. Well if JH doesnt want to keep up with inflation, then we can expect to make the playoffs 20% of the time, and be true contenders 5% of the time But sure, perhaps hes a line in the sand, no top 6 payroll, we are a mid-market team bahumbug scrooge mcduck. Maybe, thats what hes become but Im not convinced at this exact moment in time. It wont bother me as much as the bootlickers celebrating it though. Finish first, finish fourth, whatever. I just dont like red sox fans high-fiving when other teams sign stars because yay, we didnt overpay. We look pathetic when we do this. Cheering when people opt out becaus you think they were overpaid and you have a better handle on the market than their agent is pure buffoonery (not implying you are, I understand you are saying what you think JH will do)
