    I would give NO options, and NO buyouts. Make him a straight offer with a take it, or leave it. He’s a good player, and will help the club, but as I said last year he’s NO Mike Schmidt, or George Brett. Yes I know he got off to a hot start last year, but how did he end up, and now he’s a year older. If the reported offer is true, which is too long, but more than generous isn’t good enough than move on.

    Exactly? There are always more than one reason why a team doesn’t do as good as they should. The injury ju Ju that has hindered Boston for more than a few years now has hindered what the Red Sox could have, and should have been IMO. Has it not? That has nothing to do with how much money is spent, or how high the payroll is. Every single example you cited has reasons, and most likely would have been in a worse position with a lower payroll, and if broken all down would probably show that.

    Spending money isn’t always going to lead to success as the Mets have proven, but I will say it helps more than most. How many out of those 6 top ten spenders do you think would have made the playoffs if they hadn’t of spent the money. The Jays without Vlad JR. The Yankees without Judge, or the Dodgers without the Big O, or the Yam Man. The Dodgers may have only finished with the 6th best record, but do you think injuries had anything do with that, and where would they have finished without that money. Worse than 6th?

    I wouldn’t necessarily call the Red Sox bad for the most part from 2022-2024 even though they had losing records, and last place in the division finishes. They seem to fade In those years right around the trade deadline.

    Like I said before JH is not one of the big boys anymore. What the Red Sox paid in payroll in 2018-19 when they were at the top of the list wouldn’t be near the top anymore, which you conveniently left out. It’s great they lock up the young suspects, but they also need some outside help that may be expensive, so as I’ve said not only there are bigger boys now, but more of them. It’s not just the Yankees anymore, but Toronto too just in the division. Be happy the Red SOX spending is about double to 2003-2004, and be happy Roman is locked up, but if you think JH is as dedicated today as he was when he bought the team, or even 11 years ago when he showed up at the Felger, and Mazz show to set the record straight as he called it I think you are more than mistaken.

    Yes the highest tickets around, but the revenue to payroll seems to be lagging behind.

    Eddie Driscoll was a real legend who wore many hats, and costumes , and Dick Stacey was well know too.

    Some on here haven’t realized yet that JH of today is not the same JH who bought the team20+ years ago. Going after the Evil Empire was a top priority then, and not so much today. As I said the other day JH used to be one of the BIG boys, but now the boys are bigger, and there are more of them. JH spending patterns in the past as some constantly bring up mean nothing today.

    I don’t think other teams rate Duran as highly as you do, and not as high as after the 2024 season.

    You are going on the assumption that had the Red Sox had been willing to give Mookie the money, and actually signed him that every thing else would have been done, and turned out the exact same way. I don’t. The Red Sox wouldn’t give Lester the money, but then turned around, and gave Price two times more.

    Agree, and that has been mentioned more than once. At least Betts didn’t go to the YANKEES.

    If Betts would have been paid, and stayed in Boston you have NO idea what would have transpired after that. No one does.

    Once again good point. The Red Sox were 23rd in the league in revenue to payroll right behind Washington no less. Like you said it all depends how you look at it that can form different opinions. Different benchmarks, and different standards form those different opinions, and who’s to say, which one is better.
