  1. For better or worse, he'll be our number four guy come the playoffs.
  2. What's causing all the explosions and fires in North Boston???? weird
  3. Yeah, I was going to add that but forgot. 111 wins in an AL with the Yanks and Sox is no small feat.
  4. I think the number of season wins is not that important, but I do think what that number reflects is important. There is a kind of invincibility for this 2018 team, which I think all its members can stand behind, esp since it's the exact reverse of last year with many of the same players on stage. I think it's a proud moment in itself, regardless of the post season.
  5. Cleveland went 111--43 back in the 1950s but the Giants swept them in the World Series.
  6. People said that about me when Neil was young and thin, but I stayed thin and he filled out. In fact, I've always been Sale-like tall and thin... which brings us back to Chris Sale (remember him)
  7. So, Sale's 40 promised pitches turned out to be 26 and one inning. Maybe the idea was two innings but 26 in one inning was enough.
  8. Does Sale's not pitching affect his almost certain Cy Young award? Or is it not much of a factor?
  9. I wonder who actually makes the decisions as regards Sale. It's tricky business because you don't want to be too conservative either. Pitchers go every 5th or 6th day because it's best for both their game, and their arm strength/health. A guy who has been on two consecutive 10-day disabled lists, and then is limited to 40 pitchers in an upcoming start, may take too much time to find his very superior dominance and rhythm. Tom Brady usually plays one or two quarters in final games that have no real meaning to the Pats. He does this because the Pats have an extra week off before their first playoff game. I think this is similar.
  10. I'm for 12 pitchers over 11, despite all the down time. There's a single reason for this: EXTRA INNINGS. There's still no limit on innings, and these games are too crucial to not have back up after back up. And in games as competitive as these, it would not be unusual to see a 13-15 inning game played.
  11. Magic Number is 16 if my figuring is right.
  12. I'd go after the 8th and 9th hitter rather than face the lead off hitter with the bases loaded.
  13. I like that one.
  14. Eovaldi may throw 100 pitches before he gets out of the 5th inning.
  15. I like the idea of Porcello and Price, but I disagree that players making from 20-30 million bucks a year can or should qualify for UNSUNG. It's more like they are a little better than many seem to indicate.
  16. Well, if we exit the playoffs in our first round, you know what the critique is going to be.... no relief pitcher moves at either deadline..
  17. I think Nunez receives a well-deserved rest. He'll have many opportunities to see a little action here and there to keep in shape for the playoffs. Meanwhile, Devers needs to work himself back into hitting and fielding form for the playoffs, and he'll get that chance.
  18. Geez, it's hot... 80 degrees and 91% humidity here... can't be much better there. How do they compete at any high level in this weather?
  19. Leon, Nunez, Velazquez are the truly unsung ones.
  20. You got that wrong.
  21. Is there such a thing as blown HOLDS... I can't recall. If so, I'm sure Barnes, who is a hold reliever, must have at least a few.
  22. Geesh, the Yanks could be 5 games down in the loss column tonight--with more than a month to play and six games with us.
  23. The thing is that winning so many games hardly means the end of worries or concerns. Being up 7 in the loss column in August with 6 remaining games with that second place team; 3 straight losses AT HOME; and a starting pitching staff which continues to have too many question marks, are meaningful--as is a 3-5 series in which almost anything can happen, as we're lately well aware of.
  24. I think that when you decide to sideline your shutdown pitcher for two 10 day periods, it can bring down the whole team--at least a bit. You have to go with a patch-work pitching staff, and also get rest in for everyone at the same time. It makes the Sox more beatable, to put it mildly.
  25. I think I would love to see Houston and Verlander beat NY in the play-in game. That would be worth the Houston draw for us, and would keep V out of the early going. But I think the Yanks will play Oakland or Seattle, and that we have about a 75% chance of facing the Yanks in the semi-finals.
