When K. hit Walker with his first pitch, I thought we had certainly blown it, but the win will only hit me after I recover... I mean the whole damn game was tense, but the bottom of the 9th was triple tension esp given and we were blowing a 3 run lead without the Yanks getting one real hit. I will only enjoy this win tomorrow.

It always scares me when we line up one inning a pitcher, even if the guy throws 6 pitches and is superb. I suspect that one of these relievers just won't have it. K's performance tonite couldn't have been more goddam stress-inducing. It makes it hard to even get really into this victory. He put everyone's else's fine work on the line.

I guess I'm one of few here who agrees with the Cora's lineup (even without Holt's taunting factor). But I'm well aware that it's a STARTING lineup. Lefty power can be brought in as needed.

Well. whatever, Sabathia does well when Hernandez is behind the plate. 31 innings pitched, 5 runs given up.

They have the hardest time with strikes that are either at the top or bottom of the zone (calling them balls) and with balls inside and outside (calling them strikes). Jung Well, I'm relieved about Hernandez being perhaps middle-of-road behind the plate. I see that he has been very good to Sabathia, however.... 31 innings and 5 runs given up (ERA around 1.75) I agree with your above words. This is exactly what I see in games. Too many strikes on the corners, too few at the top--and perhaps at the bottom.

Yes, that's why either guy at second is fine with me. Question: what is Angel Hernandez like behind the plate???? becuz he's due there, right.

But our most offensive lineup includes extra lefties... who you say are hitting .180 vs Sabathia. I want to go with the righties and JBJ in center... and later, if necessary, switch to our lefty power.

I love our amazing outfield. And the bottom line of this game is to Win by One Run. So, in our minds, defense should be primary. We can always add bats when facing righty relievers.

I guess my tonite lineup would keep the outfield intact--JBJ is due at the plate. And this is Super Defense. Put Nunez back at third, and either Holt or Kinsler at second (K just missed a home run in game 2) Vazquez, of course, catching.

It's hard to believe that game 3 isn't even underway yet, and Houston has already won their series. Well, more reason for nerves... we already know our opponent, but can face this powerhouse only if we win one of these two games.

So much for Cora saying that Porcello's relief stint was equivalent to his throw day. I guess he really didn't mean it, or else has reassessed Rick's fatigue. Imagine: Cy Young completed 749 games during his career.

I agree that some concerned posters and posts go too "negative." But pointing out concerns, which many of us do, are not being negative or not being fans. Fans of every team have two basic approaches... one tends toward the confident, and others toward the pessimistic. The idea is the same behind both approaches... awaken the damn team either by support or a good kick in the butt. Winning is the point with both fans. To me Bill Belichick is the perfect "fan." He's never too confident. He always praises the team he's about to play even more than his own team. And he's always right on top of his team's flaws, his players' flaws and his own flaws. And I would say that he's actually closer to the pessimist fan than too the confident fan.

Cora has understandably, esp at home with his two best pitchers, opted for defense. Porcello keeps the ball on the ground, so I expect nothing may change in the next game, although he could easily opt for left hitting offense against SEV. Could go either way.

HaHa. Actually, I didn't think there were any bells and whistles on this board, so the friends thing is brand new to me, but I'll forget I read it. About the Yanks. I think one big change in their BP is Dellin Betances. He started off as a terrific young pitcher, then had few erratic years, and this year has emerged as a shut-down pitcher either in the 8th or now in the playoffs and other serious games, as the early First Stopper. We used to count on him to mess up and now we can't.

On average, I don't like our chances against Sev & Company on Monday. Maybe Rick will pitch that same terrific game that he did earlier against the Yanks, but it's hard to have faith based on a single game. It's possible we can get some extra power from Morland and Devers, which could make up the difference. However, if we lose this game, Yankee Stadium will be Rocking in game 4, and no one on that team wants to face Sale in Boston. This means a real pressure game for Eovaldi, and if something should start to turn against him, he could fold up his act. I still think our two weaknesses are an uncertain BP and a very predictable bottom 4-5 in the lineup.

I like the way the starting pitching lines up, now it's just a matter of performance. Am I the only one concerned by the longish layoff? I think the first two innings tomorrow night may be telling. If Sale shuts them down for 2, we're on our way; if not.... well, we're back in the swing of baseball, but we're already behind.

He may be waiting on the Yankee game before making this decision, which is what he's also doing with the game 4 starter selection. As far as Travis goes... I can see him as a pitch-hitter. He's come up big several times in this role.

Kind of. Why? Esp if it's Severino first. He's a novice too but very much back to true form of late, and I find him at this moment more intimidating than Sale. Tanaka has the 1.44 playoff ERA but very little edge, if any over P&P. Happ is another newbie to the playoffs but has been very effective since joining the Yanks. But as Jackson says, it could be the A's. And that's a whole new conversation.

The post-season record of our Big Three is 2-13, and none has won a post-season game for the Sox. Sale is still a playoff novice and we all know Price's post-season blues. So if we go out there and take the Yanks down in 3-4 games, this will be brand new territory for These Three--assuming they are major contributors to the wins.
