  1. My worry is that if we don't SOMEHOW get the hitting going, our pitching which, in many ways, has been above expectations (esp when factoring in injuries) will begin to fatigue and fold. It needs more support from the offense, because its gotta be over-extended in terms of effort. And when does disappointment begin to take its toll? P.S. Seems like we have the old Mets problem which is weird for a Sox team
  2. The Sox lack of hitting has less to do with getting it, than with the lack of it in this line-up. Why Why is no one hitting above expectations. Pedroia may be slightly above, but every other hitter on the Sox has either below or at expectations. The 3 Bs is each hitting around 272. This to me is the real problem--not one hitter performing above expectations. The Blue Jays have the same problem, but at least they can say it's the fatigue of a old veteran-packed lineup
  3. Yeah to all of you. I forgot about Greg Bird not coming back. (first base)
  4. Why Frazier to the Yanks? Headly is only suppose to miss a couple games.
  5. Why or why did we ever let Beltre go. He's been nothing but a first class hitter and fielder ever since.
  6. If Lin can be consistent, I much prefer this line-up. And I think Bruce would be perfect here--if his price is reasonable.
  7. Great point. His presence this year would provide a lot of the missing pop, and perhaps put a stop to many of the lineup switches.
  8. When are Smith and Thornburg coming off the DL. Given that they'll return minimally by next year, any reliever replacements would be patch-work. They're both stopper quality. Hitting to me is the bigger problem. Geez.
  9. I have a sense that my take on Sox hitting must be very close to Rick Porcello's. He must contrast last year's lineup with this one. I mean the guy's 4-10 and if this were a typical Sox team, he would me closer to 9-5. I can recall Sox teams that had a team batting average of close to .300 after 75 games. Hitting has always been our trademark. We're always right near the top in all offensive categories except maybe home runs. So, I find this whole season, from start till now, to be disappointing and frustrating. To me, this began with our 3b and lb bloated salary signings a couple years ago. I was very opposed to both, esp. given the size of the contracts. Neither would hit for that money. It seemed a quick, thoughtless move to make headlines.
  10. I've gotta think that this outfield will finally start hitting, and that somehow, we will find a third baseman. Of course, the starting pitching cannot decline at all. Oh yes, how about a new DH too. This offense is much more Met like than Boston like. It's amazing to me that Mitch Morland is really the only scary hitter on the team, and we signed him to platoon at first. What a shocking year when it comes to putting runs on the board.
