  1. Yup, the big cities are pretty liberal.
  2. El Paso and Laredo also very democratic.
  3. Stupid astros should have tried to prevent injury
  4. He moved back and almost lost it.
  5. Moreland and then Babe Bradley.
  6. Don't count Milwaukee out at home.
  7. You can say that again.
  8. It was probably to have occurred in the last inning with JBJ on first.
  9. Yeah, there's something messy about using series starters in relief positions--except, of course, in an exit game.
  10. Here come the missing Houston bats.
  11. Looking ahead, I see Gio Gonzalez is off the world series roster for Milwaukee.
  12. Yes, get to him while he's still adjusting to the long layoff.
  13. I would guess E-Rod starts and Price in relief... I think Eovaldi goes in game 7 if necessary.
  14. Charlie Morton is 15-3 this season with a 3.13 ERA, 167 innings, 201 strikeouts with a 1.16 WHIP. The 201 k's are surprising and impressive. But yup, he hasn't pitched since 30 Sept. in large part because the Cleveland series ended quickly.
  15. I don't disagree, but during the season, I think some of this emphasis on the 9th can be taken off. Why does it make me feel miserable when I see Barnes or Brasier come in and dispense with 3 guys with 8 pitches, and look so comfortable and in synch in doing so, and then see them vanish for the night. But again, I do know that it's also a matter of getting pitchers work. Maybe I could do better with my choke up the damn bat argument. (ha ha)
  16. I do recall that it didn't work. But I still think any kind of CLOSER idea has a way of feeding on itself. If you need a CLOSER that means that the 9th inning is loaded with Danger and therefore calls for heroics. This is now part of all our psyches. And it makes all other relievers look in awe at the 9th. I mean the 9th might be a hard inning or it might be the easiest inning... if you're facing the 6-8 batters, do you need a heroic, overpaid pitcher for that?? Anyway right now, things are starting to be shaken up by teams like Tampa Bay and Milwaukee. So maybe we can de-mystify the 9th to a degree.
  17. It never occurred to me. Yup, that's a good point-- at least in the manager's favor.
  18. I have never totally understood the need for a designated CLOSER. I guess it works for the most part, but because the inning is called the 9th does that necessarily draw drama and import to it. In these tightly played playoff games, it becomes readily apparent that each relief appearance is crucial, no matter the inning. To me you go with the hot hand, the stable arm, the competent experienced relief pitcher... for the most part, screw what inning it is. The whole closer thing has become too automatic, just like not choking up on the bat has become automatic. But winning games because of these things is not automatic, and accounts for some telling losses.
  19. Thanks Guardians.
  20. Keeping Kimbrel out makes him available for the next two games.
  21. Cable is not free.
  22. You know we have a 6 run lead when dogs have taken over the forum.
  23. My cat ran into the basement.
