  1. I'm by no means arguing that Sale should not be the starter. I'm just painting the concern which most knowing fans have either admittedly or sub-consciously. In other words, if there is a concern, and there should always be in a short series (no one knows this better than Cora) then my best guess is that Sale is the primary one.
  2. Yes "the magnitude of the situation" is what this Sale discussion is all about. My biggest concern (almost fear) is that Sale will walk a couple of Yanks early and then the crushing homer. This is exactly how the Yanks win games and why they won 100 games. (They take walks, and they hit homers--lots of them) Losing game one at home means you've not only lost home advantage but are down in a very short series. And how long does Cora stick with Sale if he's hit early. Quick or slow with the hook, and he will be strongly second-guessed. And Sale's health will be a big talk topic.
  3. Yes, but Sale is built opposite to Beckett. So gutting out a game or two may be beyond his thin man capacity. But the gutting might be passed over to Wright or Eovaldi.
  4. Geez, our next 8 games could be against the Yanks...6 almost for sure. Tonight good practice against Happ who we will probably see in game one. As to Oakland, the only way they can play at home is to sweep their final series, while the Yanks get swept by us.
  5. Good point. If he can give us 6 innings and strike out 9, I'm sure all will be fine.
  6. I think speed is a problem--unless Sale was in hold-back mode. But he also threw 100 pitches in 5 innings, which is not too promising. However, in the Yanks series, it may not matter too much, since Severino will pitch on Tuesday, and would only get one start vs. Sox (if my math is right). So you have Happ and some question marks to rely on in the four other games. Despite my little concerns I like the Sox odds. If there is a Sale problem, I think it would present much more in the subsequent longer series.
  7. So, who pitches against the Yanks besides Porcello? Does Eovaldi get one more? Or is Rick the last of the starting rotation to get a final fling?
  8. Yes, how about DeGrom with his losing record and Sale with his too low innings output winning the Cy Youngs. Is the minimal innings thing required to qualify for the award? Or it is just a common sense guideline?
  9. I knew Yellich would be a steal. As to the pitching side of the awards equation, I just looked at ESPN's stat leaders, and I noticed they've dropped Sale from their top ERA listings. He's been there all year. I assume his innings just missed the final mark. But weird. ???
  10. You can't walk the Yankees because the Yankees are good at walking. You play right into their strength.
  11. It must be depressing to be a right fielder here. You have give up even on poorly hit balls.
  12. Wright is the one guy who needs to make the playoff roster. He's a wildcard in both short and long situations. If Price blows it against the Yanks early, in comes Wright and we either go on to win or kiss it off, but he gives us the best chance at a comeback win. He can also be most effective in short 1-2 hitter stints. And when he's truly on, he may be second only to Sale. But he's always, to a degree, a wildcard. (Eovaldi is similar but less of a wildcard, I think)
  13. That's why I hated to see Brasier come in against Walker last night. I sensed the homer right from the first pitch.
  14. You can still make bad moves in an exhibition game. And besides, can't we have Red Sox fans in mind--and Oakland in mind. You don't follow this game in order to watch a dumb loss when you can have a smart win and still be well rested.
  15. Probably not against this lineup tho.
  16. Is Chapman available tonite??
  17. How about bringing in a Lefty to face a lefty?? The bullpen is loaded with arms.
  18. That long single by Nunez wasted. The deception play saves a run for the Ys
  19. Yes. And his defensive lapses, which equal his home-run prowess in number, may end up messing with his ultimate offensive output. I wonder: is Sanchez working on a second position.
  20. The game has been re-scheduled for 7:00, so no waiting all day. No Judge tonite.
  21. I wasn't aware of Snell's lack of innings. Doesn't he have nearly 20 wins--on that team? Hey, I could vote for Sandy. P.S. The game today is now a night game at 7 due to a drenched field. And Judge will not play. Go Eovaldi. Mow down your old team.
  22. Betts MVP. Snell or possibly Diaz for Cy.
  23. Yankee game tomorrow most likely rained out, so doubling up on Wed or Thurs. Yeah One Win here in plenty. On the final days at Fenway, we can try to help out Oakland.
  24. 1) playoff practice tonight vs Syndegaard 2) a boring night for baseball.. yanks up 8-0 and we down 5-0 time for Florence coverage, tho am sick of that
  25. I think all the upcoming salary demands will either increase or decrease depending on how deep we go into the playoffs, this year and next. That's the politics of the situation--or the leverage that players have both with the owner and the public.
