  1. His -2.1 UZR looks a lot better than whatever Castro had. Infield defense definitely won't be a strength for the Yankees, but Didi is an above average fielding SS and everyone else is average or slightly below average.
  2. Neil Walker being signed now almost guarantees Torres and Andujar start in AAA. Walker can play 1B so he can effectively replace Tyler Austin. My guess is Wade, Toe, Romine, Ells are the bench guys.
  3. Yanks signed Adam Lind to a minor league contract. Not a glitzy move but a good move nonetheless. With Bird's injury history I think he is good depth at first. And should Bird get injured again (please no) they can platoon Lind/Austin against righties/lefties. Lind last season for WAS:.303/.362/.513 (OPS+ 123) over 301 PAs.
  4. Both Torreyes and Wade have minor league options remaining. So no big deal if one or both don't make the 25-man roster come April. Like Jacko said, Drury gives us an MLB ready option (who has plenty of upside) in case the kids aren't ready yet.
  5. Yankees X Factors: Stay healthy and hit a s*** ton of HRs. They realistically could have 8 guys hit 20+ HRs (4 of those 8 could hit 30+, and 2 of those 4 could hit 50+).
  6. Both teams are pretty similar. It would not surprise me if either/both teams finished with 100+ wins. But it will take a lot of things to go right for both teams in terms of health, players playing to their potential, and live chicken sacrifices.
  7. Greatest baseball player name of all time = Brooks Pounders End of thread
  8. Why not use the last 4 years
  9. If you extrapolate the Yankees 5-0 record so far in spring training through the end of the year, they're going to win at least 173 games between the regular and postseason. Simple mathematatics!
  10. If Andujar keeps mashing this spring I don't see how they can leave him off the team. I can see Andujar/Wade/Drury making the team with Toe getting sent down to AAA. 3B time split of Andujar/Drury 75/25 and 2B Drury/Wade of 50/50
  11. Geez give the kids a break. Bring in Mike Carp.
  12. I like the thought but I think Drury will most likely man third (Cash has said it's his best position) and Wade/Toe will platoon second until Torres is ready. Unless Andujar mashes and plays competent third base during the spring, I think he ends up back in AAA.
  13. I think this is a good deal. Obviously time will tell, but at this moment it's a good deal for the Yanks. Solak is our 4th best infield prospect and we're pretty flush with right handed pitching prospects, especially ones who likely project as backend bullpen pieces. So losing Widener is not that big of a loss imo. We dealt from our strengths. As for Drury, he's a solid piece who can play 2nd or 3rd (both big league positions of need) and who is still young and has more upside. It gives us more flexibility with our infield if Andujar/Torres/Wade are not ready to take on a bigger role. I'd give this trade a B.
  14. Good for you guys. Was hoping that Arizona signed him or that you would sign him to an overpriced contract. Neither happened. Bummer.
  15. He pitched on the Yankees for like a fifth of a year. He also pitched 13+ years with other teams. I see what you're trying to do
  16. Players should oppose the luxury tax in the next CBA. If it didn't exist then the top players would have signed by now.
  17. He's a worse Stephen Drew. And possibly a worse Pete Kozma.
  18. I think Lasagna will be top 100 by year end as well
  19. Even if last year is somewhat of an outlier for Hosmer, I wouldn't say he's barely better than Moreland. MM has a 93 OPS+ over the past two seasons, Hos has 117. Plus he's in his prime coming off his best year whereas MM has been below average since 2015. I'm not arguing that he's worth $20M a year, but he would definitely improve the team and he is definitively better than MM.
  20. Hosmer isn't a star but I don't get all of the hate. He's a former top prospect entering his prime as a 27 year old coming off a career year hitting .318/.385/.498 w/ 25 HRs and 94RBIs on a pretty bad Royals team. His glove is overrated but I'd say it's still above average. I think he'd be an upgrade at first for a lot of teams, including Boston. He'll probably get overpaid but so does pretty much everyone in free agency. At least he'll provide some value.
  21. I have no issue with a luxury tax. It's meant to keep teams with larger markets from gaining a competitive advantage just because of their geography. The problem I have is with teams who don't spend at all. If you're gonna punish teams who spend too much, you should also punish teams who don't spend enough. Why should teams like LA, NY and Boston subsidize smaller market teams just so they can put out s*** lineups so that their owners can pocket an extra 20 mill??
  22. If I'm going for a Cleveland pitcher I prefer Churrasco over Saladbar. Anyway I know this is not something any Yankees fan wants to hear but I think the best option if they're serious about getting another SP is signing Darvish and trading Gardner to make cap room. We have a glut of OFers and nobody is gonna take on Ellsbury's contract.
  23. I feel like the Yankees aren't actually serious about getting Darvish. Maybe just trying to push up the price for Houston.
  24. Only 10 months until the 2019 thread opens
  25. Exciting lineup. Of course no team's lineup is ever fully intact over the course of an entire season. But I think one of the overlooked parts of the Yankees is that they have good depth in the form of MLB ready top prospects. For 2018 ZiPS projects the Yankees to have an MLB most 27 players who are +1 WAR or greater (next highest is Brewers with 25). 1 WAR isn't great, but to have that many players above replacement level on a roster is kinda ridiculous.
