  1. Andriese has been in the major leagues since 2015. Despite not matching up with other MLB pitchers last season, he’s far and away as better pitcher than any of us who ever played have ever faced. Except msybe other major leaguers, of course…
  2. That 2009 Red Sox dugout had 4 current MLB managers in it, with Francona, Kotsay, Chris Woodward, and Rocco Baldelli…
  3. My only Kotsay memory was his pinch triple over the head of BJ Upton in game 5 of the 2008 NLDS, bringing a one time Tampa 7-0 lead to 7-6. And then Kotsay later scored the tying run after a 6,587 pitch at-bat by Coco Crisp. Beyond that, Kotsay just didn’t do much for the Sox, much like Texas Rangers’ manager Chris Woodward the following season…
  4. … was hired to manage the Oakland A’s. Counting Kotsay, 12 of the current 30 MLB managers have been employed by the Red Sox at some point in their careers, as either a player, coach, manager, or front office executive…
  5. Of course his signings were unimpressive. He was looking for discounts before he knew what the new rules he was going to have to play by were established. I have no idea if a new CBA means his budget will go up, down, or stay the same, but it does make sense that a team like Boston that was already up against the previous tax limit might want to hold back a bit until at least seeing what the new limit (if any?) is…
  6. He does get hurt too frequently, but he can field, is friends with Cora, and just turned 27…
  7. Trevor Story = extremely expensive Paul DeJong. Reportedly the Cardinals are looking to upgrade at SS over DeJong, so save the cash and commitment and just go get PDJ instead. I’d rather splurge on Correa than waste money (and more importantly, years) on the adequate but undoubtedly overpriced Story…
  8. He does seem to throw a lot of strikes. But mostly as a bowler. Still it’s impressive given the ball he uses isn’t even close to being round…
  9. If the owners are amenable to that, why is there a lockout?
  10. Spent in 1997. Fire sale in 1998. That fire sale did bring in a couple of key players for the 2003 run…
  11. It helped Houston, as tanking allowed them to draft Correa, McCullers, and Springer with high picks (or, in the case of McCullers, a later pick financed by going underslot on the first rounder Carlos Correa)…
  12. Even if they don’t make it, it’s not necessarily a bad deal. A little less than oneyear ago, JBJ was a good enough player to get the contract he received from Milwaukee and Renfroe was non-tendered by Tampa…
  13. This is true. I mean JBJ is already in the majors, which really helps his case…
  14. Asian leagues are really all the rage right now…
  15. Except for Boone. Unless Cashman is running some sort of baby-eating cabal, no dirt is THAT juicy…
  16. Not to mention, the labor dispute probably won’t be resolved until February, so he and many other non-elite free agents will be scrambling for any deal they can get…
  17. I think we can scratch “be dealt” off that list, considering per you Sanchez don’t hit well enough to be a DH, per me, and his defense is such that he couldn’t catch a cold if he was naked in Norway. Seems like not much for what will likely be an $8mill investment. I don’t see other teams lining up…
  18. Speaking of Andriese, he just signed with the Giants. The Yomiuri Giants, that is…
  19. I am very much on board with your Pham nomination. I really like the idea of Verdugo in left, Kike in CF, and JBJ/Pham in RF…
  20. I’d take him in RF over Hernandez, too. And in Fenway, RF is the tougher position…
  21. JBJ has a career OPS+ of 87. Through the same age, Ozzie Smith had a career OPS+ of 80. It’s not always about the bat…
  22. I don’t think they signed Wacha to be a $7mill middle reliever. He’s likely penned (not penciled) into a rotation spot right now…
  23. Sale wasn’t even expected to be part of that rotation until late in the year. But then no one was excited about that rotation through last March, not because of the health, but because the consensus was it just wasn’t any good. This year’s rotation looks kind of questionable, but we do have some late season depth (Paxton) and the off-season isn’t over yet. I’d like to see Rodon added to the mix, despite the obvious risks that I normally don’t like. But part of the reason I like Rodon is he reportedly is looking for a short deal, and also because they already have enough pitchers to field a rotation so anything from him would be a bonus…
  24. Sadaharuh Oh circa 1966 or the present day version?
  25. Will Suzuki have a great long term impact like Hideki Matsui? Or like Kaz Matsui? It’d be great if we knew he was Ichiro 2.0 and not just another Fukudome…
