  1. I would nominate Brian Daubach for that as well…
  2. Considering he was worth 1.5 fWAR in the abbreviated 2020 season (and ranked 21st among outfielders in MLB that year), he’s probably a bit farther from dead than 2021 suggests…
  3. True, DD did bring on board Houck, Casas and Duran…
  4. I’m guessing at some point, they get a platoon for him and limit him to right handed pitching. (Going with Pham here.) Really though, he’d never been a great hitter, but he’s also never been as bad as he was in 2021, and he was in a new league facing a lot of new pitchers. I don’t expect him to hit much, but I do expect him to hit better…
  5. The Sox essentially traded a 2-2.5 fWAR outfielder likely to cost $19mill over the next 2 seasons for a 2-2.5 fWAR outfielder who will cost about $24million coming off a down year plus two prospects…
  6. There better be a season. I can’t have another 2020 of trying to get into Jelle’s Marble Runs on YouTube to fill my sports needs…
  7. Hey, just because the players stand to lose money doesn’t mean everyone should, right?
  8. It would make my liver quiver, my stomach flummox, and my gall bladder all gladder. So, I think I’d be ok with it…
  9. Well, obviously. If you saw them coming, then they wouldn’t be surprises, now would they?
  10. The stalled CBA negotiations are on both sides. The lockout is squarely on the shoulders of the owners…
  11. Running the Rays was his Senior Project. The Rays take any cheap help they can get…
  12. We haven’t had an exciting off-season in years…
  13. And the lockout just seemed like a dumb maneuver to me, since they already had the upper hand and that would have continued under any slightly modified CBA..
  14. He’s bi-curious with his saber metrics…
  15. You also do have an affinity for making platoons out of players across two or more positions
  16. Also it helps that it’s pretty much impossible to block pitching prospects…
  17. I expect either a starting 2b or LF and maybe a corner platoon option for Bradley instead of using Arroyo in a moonslav-style defensive game of musical chairs. I think they won’t add any more starters and it’s more likely that instead of additions, we see Whitlock and/or Houck in the rotation. So, yeah, relievers are probably coming…
  18. Is Renfroe really that much better off an overall player than your frequently-omitted JBJ?
  19. All that could happen to anyone, but when people talk about prospects being blocked, rarely are they referring to backup catcher…
  20. How the 2022 roster projects today C: Vazquez 1b: Dalbec (and eventually Casas) 2b: K Hernandez (vs RHP), Arroyo (vs LHP) 3b: Devers SS: Bogaerts LF: Duran CF: Bradley (vs RHP), K Hernandez (vs LHP) RF: Verdugo DH: Martinez BN: Plawecki, Arauz, OF? SP: Sale, Eovaldi, Hill, Pivetta, Wacha BP: Houck, Whitlock, Barnes, Brasier, Taylor, Sawamura, D Hernandez, Davis So as you can see, there should be some activity once transactions resume. Heck the only other outfielder on the 40 man roster is a Jeisson Rosario…
  21. Yes, Virginia, there will be an MLB season. The lockout is likely to continue well into January and possibly even February, but both sides stand to realize that a missed season is the worst possible outcome for everyone…
  22. I think he will be fine, but the transition to Japan and the k league there has been unpredictable. We’ve seen mediocre MLB players like Randy Bass going over there and become superstars who threatened league records and also MLB All Stars like Dave Nilsson just turn into complete flops that lasted less than one season…
  23. The Sox reached an agreement with Plawecki. He’sa done deal and one they can’t get out of. They can’t even release him and only pay 10%. Duran maybe can make the team, but right now his problem isn’t that he’s blocked. With no real 2b starter, the current Sox alignment might be Kike (2b), Bradley (CF) and Verdugo (RF). Duran isn’t really blocked from LF by anyone…
  24. The Sox lineup doesn’t have too many holes where the farm has superior. Maybe 1b. That’s about it…
