  1. But the race itself is very fast paced…
  2. MLB’s biggest problem IMO is their antediluvian blackout policy…
  3. And we’d all be bigger fans of horse racing…
  4. Maybe so more lively promotions, like Butcher Knife Day or Cattle Prod Day or Stranger Things’ Bat Full of Nails Day…
  5. Stop https://glosbe.com/en/en/partial%20negation
  6. Most cheaper tickets are also in parks with teams that have lower payrolls…
  7. So why don’t the teams drawing the lowest numbers simply reduce ticket prices? Clearly they have exceeded the threshold for what people are willing to pay. Some teams will do these type of things at the end of a bad season, notably the White Sox will have some ridiculously cheap prices in August/September if the team is no good. But one thinks a team like the A’s that often does well and draws poorly should simply reduce ticket prices to bolster attendance. While it is true they want to maximize the intake, if nothing else the operating costs to determine the floor for where ticket prices have to be at a minimum. No one can make money if they ignore what it cost to make the product in the first place…
  8. The players don’t care what it costs to win. Ultimately that dis influence what fans have to pay. That’s the difference…
  9. They will not lower ticket prices until absolutely necessary, but the notion that ticket prices are based on “as much fans are willing to pay” is equally incomplete and incorrect. Teams have operating costs that figure into pricing to some extent. Players’ salaries are among those costs…
  10. How many player interests coincide with the fans? Simply put, most owners’ ultimate goal is to win as often as possible while spending as little as possible. This aligns closer to the needs and wants of fans more so than any players’ goal…
  11. The Average Joe also is the one who feels let down by the players clamoring for more money. How many people have you heard make the ridiculous claim about how they’d play for free? I b get very few fans ever liked the owners, which is interesting because the interests of the owners are the closest thing to the interests of the fans…
  12. I’m not against trying Casas (or Dalbec) in left field, either.
  13. The thing about Casas is, first base isn't exactly the toughest position to fill. We have a blocked third baseman playing there now...
  14. The call to trade him was based on: 1. The Sox had a full outfield and 2. He was a legitimate top 50 prospect. When the Sox had needs, he was a good candidate to trade. Unloading Arauz was only going to get so much, if anything…
  15. Yeah not really the point…
  16. Duran had what? 112 plate appearances? No decision should have been made either way. His fielding is largely based on scouts and observations from his minor league days. Not because he didn’t flub any of his 47 putouts. I’m ok with giving Duran an actual shot now with Renfroe out of the way and, unless it’s a marquee talent, another outfielder. Kris Bryant? Trade Duran! Corey Dickerson? Is he really an improvement? Seiya Suzuki? I don’t know enough about him to make a call either way, but I do know Duran is already here…
  17. Plus I think they want someone who so does less research
  18. I wonder what the plan is for Duran. The Sox seem intent on pursuing Suzuki. Is he necessarily a better option? Sure he could be the next Hideki Matsui, but he could also be the next Kosuke Fukudome. Maybe sign a platoon partner (McCutchen? Pham?) and play Duran in LF, play Bradley in CF and Verdugo in RF with Kike at 2b vs RHP. Vs LHP, McCutchen/Pham in LF, Kike in CF and Arroyo at 2b. Spend Suzuki’s salary on a couple RPs instead. Suzuki’s numbers in Japan are solid, but Duran is 25 and a top 50 prospect. His limited playing time last year was just that and might not mean anything going forward…
  19. Well, considering you were using a projected surplus valuation of -$2.9 mill for one year, why would you consider that valid while a surplus valuation of $1.1 mill over 3 years is too volatile? And what is it about Steamer that makes you think they have any validity?
  20. I didn’t think so. That just didn’t feel like something they’d do…
  21. Of course you don’t need to fill 3 extra gas tanks if you’re bringing your wife and two kids with you in the car…
  22. But not NRBQ?
  23. Was it Selig who negated the Sox signings of Sammy Sosa, John Wetteland and Kevin Appier after the 1994 stoppage?
  24. Not really. Moon’s point was Renfroe’s defense would have been even worse had it not been for his throwing ability…
  25. That’s not even that critical, and is even potentially accurate reporting (depending on perception of Manfred). It’s not like he wrote “Rob Manfred is ugly and his breath is what I imagine would happen if a compost heap came to live and dined exclusively on garlic and Limburger cheese” or anything actually insulting. This just makes me like Manfred less..
