  1. Wasn’t he one of the guys whose first hit was a grand slam? Or was that the highly memorable Creighton Gubanich?
  2. Easily the worst contracts in team history, and Lackey started off his Sox career like he intended to join that group. And obviously Rusney -despite my liking his defense - is another obvious addition. But as bad as these guys were (except maybe Crawford), the worst player is still different than the worst contract.
  3. And given how they ended, maybe that was the wrong choice…
  4. How about Steve Lomasney as a prospect flop?
  5. That’s ok. There’s a good chance he doesn’t remember you, either…
  6. I think that’s what makes Gutierrez a great candidate. He was awful but still the best choice. Although Hoffman was another who was high on my list. I’m actually also surprised no one has mentioned Edgar Renteria. I have some theories about his poor performance, but they’re totally unsubstantiated and he was still pretty ineffective regardless…
  7. Said it before but it’s still worth noting - from mid-June until the end of the season, Dalbec had the second highest OPS among AL first basemen, trailing only MVP runner up Vlad Jr. He had a very slow start, but he certainly did bounce back. I’d keep him for now over any pitcher I could get for him…
  8. Oh we’re all just guessing. The reality is there is probably a candidate or two for a starting job that’s either currently unemployed or employed by another team…
  9. As an ancillary piece, he’s possibly not even a consequential part of the deal. No team is going to agree to send Pitcher X for Nick Yorke and then back out if the Sox don’t include Dalbec…
  10. He was also a two time BA Top 100 prospect…
  11. True. And that’s why the mention of Jackie Gutierrez was such a good one. Sure he only played for a couple seasons, but he was the full time starting shortstop for one of them. Every team has some Rudy Pemberton type who showed up for 30-50 games one year and then deservedly never returned, usually because the real starter healed. But who are the guys who played 140-150 games per season that kept disappointing you every time you sa their name in the lineup, especially since you knew no better option was coming back?
  12. I like Dalbec, but I’m not sure any pitcher who can be acquired for him is worth the trade…
  13. Another one was Tony Blanco. In A ball, he was always compared to Vlad Guerrero. In MLB, he wasn’t even a poor man’s Mario Guerrero…
  14. A definite flop. Although he really almost never played. Less than 400 PA total spanning six seasons…
  15. A definite candidate…
  16. As of today, I see it as: LF: Duran CF: Bradley vs RHP/Hernandez vs LHP RF: Verdugo 2b: Hernandez vs RHP/Arroyo vs LHP But that’s probably not going to be how it ends up. Another possibility using the current roster is LF: Verdugo CF: Hernandez RF: Bradley 2b: Arroyo But Arroyo just seems to lack the durability it to be counted on for a full time role. Either way, using either of Duran or Bradley as a full time starter is probably pretty weak, and both are left-handed, negating the idea of combining them into a true platoon. So I think it is obvious that at least one more major move for an OF or a MI is forthcoming…
  17. That certainly could happen, especially if they sign Suzuki, although that appears unlikely right now. So given their current roster, it’s either Kike in CF, Arroyo/Arauz at 2b, and JBJ on the bench. Or JBJ in CF and Kike at 2b, possibly with Arroyo playing 2b vs LHP and Kike moving to CF, effectively making a Bradley/Arroyo platoon. Now a bold move like signing Correa alters things drastically as well. In that case, either Bradley does go to the bench, or he moves to RF (and Verdugo stays in LF). But that hasn’t happened yet, and it may never happen…
  18. It’s still January. Every team has lots of “ifs” in January, even during off-seasons without lockouts…
  19. What? Bloom knows more than us? Blasphemer!!
  20. If the Sox wanted a RHH corner outfielder, they would have simply kept Renfroe. It is getting close to time to accept Kike will not be the primary CF anymore. That’s what Bradley is for…
  21. And put Duran in CF? Didn’t we have enough problems with outfield defense last year?
  22. I have nothing against Seiya Suzuki, but I can’t get excited about him just yet, so it’s hard to get frustrated if he goes to San Francisco. If the Sox give Duran a chance in the outfield, possibly with a platoon partner (McCutchen? Pham?), it might work out even better…
  23. The Comparative Stat method you repeatedly employ is solely used to denigrate Sox prospects or escalate Mariners’ prospects. I’ve never once seen it done the opposite way. I’ve also never seen it work…
  24. You do realize Internet forums thrive on discussion, right?
  25. I disagree with the choice for a couple reasons. 1. He barely played. Sure he was a waste of money, but not nearly as much of one as some other players, notably Pablo Sandoval. And the Sox have had plenty of players who barely played who were worse. Jose Peraza, for example. 2. Castillo did play elite defense, which really shouldn’t be ignored.
