  1. Sign Polar Pete Alonso Trade LHP Brandon Clarke (BA #81) and INF Mikey Romero to St. Louis for 2b Brendan Donovan. (Fair trade on BTV) Trade Boston gets: RHSP Joe Ryan, C Ryan Jeffers Minn gets: RHP Andrew Painter, CF Justin Crawford Philly gets: CF Jarren Duran (BTV calls this Major Overpay by Boston) Thoughts?
  2. Reportedly Joe Ryan is still on the Real Life Radar. Whereas Hunter Greene exists only in clickbait articles…
  3. I’m assuming Duran nets a prospect (or two) in a trade, so that prospect (or two) is flipped far the “#2 starter” or replaces a prospect pitcher that dealt. My inner child is contemplating referring to #2 starting pitchers as Laxative Pitchers. Maybe I need to grow up a little…
  4. Bloom avoids that deal because of the attached QO. Think Breslow follows suit?
  5. The rotation has one hole in it. The Sox have 11 SPs on the 40 man roster already, and reportedly want to add one more. Assuming everyone is healthy, they would add one SP to Crochet, Bello, Sandoval, and Crawford. Meanwhile Early, Dobbins, Harrison, Tolle, Fitts, Perales, and Houck sit on the 40 man roster. (Houck cannot be moved to the 60 Day IL until March.) They might bump a couple (Fitts? Perales?) to the bullpen, and maybe make a trade involving one or more. But until that happens, 12 SPs on the 40 man is a lot…
  6. I like the idea of Bregman/Bichette because cheap 1b production is easier than other positions. But someone like Alonso will get a cheaper contract than Bregman/Bichette, so maybe he’s more likely? We shall see. I also figure 4-5 years from now, I will be happier with Alonso than with Bregman…
  7. But you seemingly focus primarily players who excelled in Arizona and nowhere else recently…
  8. Sogard vs Hamilton on defense are good players to put into the hypothetical example for defense. If you hit each 100 identical ground balls, Sogard would get to 80 but make every play. Hamilton would get to all 100 but make 10 errors…
  9. I didn’t even think that! “Pete, sign with Boston and we will name our AAA stadium after you!” If that doesn’t clinch the deal, nothing will…
  10. I’ve spent a fair amount of time making anti-Alonso arguments - none of which had anything to do with the Polar Bear himself (except for when I pick on how when he runs and looks like a mannequin in an earthquake). But the pro-Alonso arguments are easy. First of all, while expensive, he is still likely to command less money years and money than the standout 2b/3b free agents. Also - no QO. And let’s face it - whether you agree with me that he runs like a mannequin in an earthquake or that he runs like a penguin on cocaine, these are fun things to watch in both cases…
  11. Romy does lack Hamilton’s range, but probably has the best arm of the three…
  12. You’ve recommended launching so many players to the moon and sun over the years, those two celestial bodies should each be able to field competitive teams by now. I assume the team on the sun will only be available for day games?
  13. Well, the Sox are definitely moving a good and cheap outfielder for something. Pitching would be good…
  14. As much as Hamilton was a disappointment at SS, let’s not be rash and default promote Sogard ahead of him. Between Hamilton, Sogard and Romy Gonzalez, the Sox are stockpiling utility infielders with limited SS skills. Of the three, Romy, maybe, is the best SS?
  15. After 2020 through 2023, exactly who wasn’t already frustrated with Sale? It’s a long list that most definitely includes Sale himself…
  16. If we don’t, does it mean we won? Not sure why this is conditional. I mean, is the Yankees loss of Verdugo to free agency after one bad year the reason the Sox won that trade?
  17. Sogard has that gritty thing going where does lots and lots of little things right but his ceiling is capped by MLB-fringe talent. His style is reminiscent of Pedroia in many ways, but he is a Kia Sedona compared to Pedroia’s Porsche Boxster…
  18. Two of the four MLBTR writers picked Cease for Boston. I’m sure that’s mentioned somewhere on another thread…
  19. Apparently we were both wrong. Entirely possible his arm was not in the same shape it was a couple years ago…
  20. #2 starter - SOLVED Actually he probably (re: definitely) goes to the bullpen…
  21. Thats one possibility. Yandy and Bo Bichette? Yandy and Gleyber Torres? Ok not as much fun. The point is the Sox need two infielders. If they blow their budget on Alonso, then what? I used Rengifo as the cheap alternative, but we all know it’s more likely to be Hamilton/Romy. I would much prefer fewer stereotypical 7/8/9 hitters and get two actual bats. And I think you can get more for less money at 1b than at 2b or 3b…
  22. That makes me think Eaton’s makes more sense than Sogard…
