  1. If I could get both for a combined commitment of $210million, I’m ok with that. Adames’ remaining $155mill over 5 does actually seem reasonable for a 30yo SS…
  2. There are also more Sox fans who think they know how to run a Major League Baseball team than actually can, too. And you’re being very selective with Fred’s predictions, excluding the blatantly wrong stuff as well has the needs. Plenty of people call the Sox flops every off-season, regardless of what the Sox actually do. That makes them cynics, not prophets…
  3. Is there? As fans we don’t know the difference and as players they can’t compare. The reality is, fans just want players to perform. Schilling gets immortalized for pitching with his bloody sock, because it’s manly to not let injuries stop you.. But Anthony elects to sit out games with a wrist injury that most definitely will impact his hitting, and he’s labeled soft and injury-prone. Sale was considered injury-prone and frail until he was traded away and started pitching well. Then people acted like he’d never been hurt ever. If a player can’t play, he really shouldn’t try. And that doesn’t make him soft. He does have a teammate that is also among the best 780 players in the world that is ready to step in. Let him do so and the ESPNitwits can stop using Wally Pipp as a verb…
  4. But I’d still put him in the bullpen when Crochet returns. Not so much for his performance but rather for the bullpen’s. They need help…
  5. Story could be out 6-10 weeks. And he might be a little better if he is no longer in pain…
  6. Pterodactyls were neither birds nor dinosaurs. They were pterosaurs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pterosaur
  7. Bello has been pitching much better lately. Not sure if he gets back into the top ten in AL ERA anytime soon. But the turnaround helps…
  8. Does Anthony know that? Maybe he does, but it’s already earned him a reputation for being made of glass. Players play hurt all the time. Did Cora or Tracy ever ask Story if he was hurt? Probably. Story probably downplayed it, too. Clearly Story tried to play through it. Not sure why a player cannot do what athletes have been doing for centuries without having management brought into it. They only know what Story tells them. And yes, Story and his weak defense and sub-.600 OPS definitely hurt the team…
  9. And he still might end up there. While I agree with anyone who says Mayer should have been the SS a month ago, it’s also only been one game. Maybe after a week of Monasterio at the position, Tracy decides it was not the best idea and he switches things up. It seems like most MLB managers don’t change players’ positions as wantonly as your average Little League coach..
  10. Only if you’re arrogant enough to believe your opinion equates to realism. Or thinking majority fan opinion equates to being realistic. To me, anyone paying for a plane flight complete with messaged banner because they do not like how a professional sports team is run might not be the epitome of realistic. Want something realistic? It’s far, far more likely that the Sox turn it around and win the AL East this season than it is that Henry sells the team. Thats a realistic fact, because Henry ain’t selling’…
  11. Maybe they think he is dealing with too much right now with his hitting issues. Maybe they want him to stay at 2b because that’s where his future is. There are lots of reasons to leave him there and most teams do similar. Manny Machado is the best SS in San Diego but they never love him there when they have an injury…
  12. 99% of the time you just say “I already explained that” as if were clearly expected to search through the forum for your pearls of wisdom. Made especially difficult by the fact that you never once supply a link. I will assume that 99% of the time when you respond this way, it’s because you realize you’ve adopted a stupid position and hope you can make questions go away. But that’s probably not true; it gives you too much credit….
  13. Maybe he assumed or hoped it would go away on its own. Maybe he didn’t want to risk losing his job with a lengthy IL stint. Maybe because players who volunteer to sit because of injuries get railed in the press and among fans (See Drew, J.D.) There’s lots of reasons athletes play hurt. And it’s not like we all call in sick to the office every time we get the sniffles…
  14. MLBTR talks about how Story is admitting he’s been experiencing discomfort all season..
  15. And you thought Old Red was inhuman because he hates passion. Well, jokes on you. Turns out he hates optimism, too…
  16. He’s struggling at the plate. So they probably didn’t want to pile position change on top of that as well…
  17. I know some crocodilians that want to have a word with you…
  18. Trainers can’t read minds. If no one tells them something’s wrong, they have no way of knowing…
  19. Is 8 hits (11 total bases) in 14 games really a hot streak?
  20. It’s a weird team funk. I mean, the season is over a quarter over and not one hitter has even had a hot streak yet…
  21. They can be cashed in for points…
  22. Pipeline? They drafted two of those guys (Misiorowski and Ashby). The rest, along with Quinn Priester, were acquired from other teams and in fact for all the rest (again, including Priester), the Brewers are their third organization. Priester - Pirates, Red Sox, Brewers Harrison - Giants, Red Sox, Brewers Patrick - Diamondbacks, A’s, Brewers Crow - Angels, Mets, Brewers Drohan - Red Sox, White Sox, back to Red Sox, Brewers
  23. I have heard somewhere that Rafaela has been parsing together data from his challenges to better learn the strike zone, like a velociraptor testing the electric fence in Jurassic Park. If thats working for him and it’s reflected in an uptick in his stats, is it so wrong that he uses challenges?
  24. IKF is the most likely sent packing of those three, but it’s going to be really hard to blame him for anything…
