  1. I’m not a fan of Suarez, but he also might not be the cheap alternative many think he is. We assume he will take a shorter deal for less money, but his these perceptions coupled with his recent production and ineligibility for a QO might make demand higher than it should be for an aging, declining hitter that can’t play defense…
  2. There really is no case for stating why the Sox wouldn’t take on Harper’s contract. In fact, at 6 years it’s likely we won’t see many superstar contracts this short. It’s weird to me many think Schwarber will be settling for 3-4 year deals this time around…
  3. Harper still might be better than Devers at any point in time. Over the last 3 years, 30-32 year old Harper has been better than 26-28yo Devers. It wouldn’t surprise me if that held up for the next few years. Of course, it’s not an either/or choice. Devers was given lots of money and chose to be a selfish prick. And this started during negotiations; his insistence that he stay at third base should have been a huge red flag . But this started because folks are insisting the Sox would never take on Harper’s contract, despite it being reasonable for the times. Well, again, trading for a contract is NOT the same as signing a player to one…
  4. There is a postseason thread.
  5. And Springer due up. I am a bit surprised he let Gimenez hit there, but Barger needs to realize he has no shot at scoring there…
  6. Absolutely. But more important is, I bet he and his agent also think so…
  7. Harper is a future Hall of Famer who has shown a willingness to change positions. Can you substitute his name with Devers and still have a true sentence? Can you do it with either half?
  8. DD has repeatedly said Painter is not available. As he normally has no issues making prospects available, I’m taking him seriously on Painter…
  9. $191-200m Squeeze that one big contract in there, but not go overboard…
  10. If Miguel retires, find yourself another Rojas. There’s like 4 Rojas’s in MLB and they all play 2b (except for Johan)…
  11. If Story opts out, too, it means Mayer is the longest tenured infielder…
  12. With the money he’s making, he won’t need to work a side hustle in the souvenir shops. But I do agree he’d be good at it…
  13. Devers, who was last out of Betts, Bogaerts and Devers* *Not a law firm..
  14. Sometimes promotions come regardless of whether or not the player is ready. The Cubs demoted Matt Shaw for 6 weeks ladt year before recalling him. He did hit in AAA like he had before, but I think the bigger factor was his replacements (Berti and Brujan) were both steps down from the performance that got Shaw demoted in the first place…
  15. Exactly. He needs to let the dairy do its thing rather than going directly to the cow…
  16. We really don’t know the years these two will settle on. Schwarber only signed for 4 years last time, but he’s coming off a career year. Alonso wants 7, but will most likely have to settle for less. Will anyone go six? I think the big obstacles will be whether or not Harper is actually available and whether or not Harper wants to be traded…
  17. Reasonable assumption. I mean, they blatantly said that was the goal when they hired Bloom. They don’t have much in the upper tier of their farm ready to step in right away that we haven’t already seen. Will Campbell get another shot? Early start off in the rotation? When is Tolle back? We all hope these guys start next season out as MiLB depth, but it’s not necessarily going to work out that way…
  18. And even you have repeatedly said he never replaced Devers….
  19. So both signed through the same age. I know it’s not going to happen, but I disagree with this article and very much think Harper is a viable solution at 1b…
  20. I will go along with least amount of money. I just don’t think they care how many deals it takes to get there. But I also think they do need to put one big deal out there for the fans…
  21. And with Devers gone, JH now has to go long and large on someone else as a public show of commitment. As I’ve said a million time, free agency is all PR. You can’t call Devers signing solely because he was ladt man standing and then try to refute that simple fact…
  22. Devers got 10. Harper remains one of the most popular players in the game. He still does commercials, which is unusual for MLB players, has tons of fan interactions, and still just flat out looks like he enjoys himself out there. Not to mention, his path to Cooperstown is already complete. His biggest downside is that he openly advocates drinking raw milk, which will probably be how he dies. But that could easily be more than six years from now…
  23. 1b: Harper 2b: Rengifo SS: Mayer 3b: Bohm Im combining threads.
  24. I doubt DD uses BTV specifically, but every team uses a similar program. That deal I said didn’t work for anyone including me. But the other one with no Yoshida, no Castellanos, but did include Bohm? I think DD goes for that. No idea on Harper or Breslow…
