  1. But Matz availability made sense. St. Louis was out of it and Matz was a pending free agent, and the Sox needed bullpen help. May made no sense, because the Dodgers were in it and shouldn’t be trading away SP for minor leaguers. Unless they feel that SP is completely useless. Like May..
  2. My take on Arroyo is Seattle fans are divided on him. Most love his power, but his contact skills remain in question. But as he is 21 and already in AA, I assume Seattle holds him abd gives him time…
  3. 95% of the regulars on the board were questioning all last year, starting in spring training. Is it a legit concern? Absolutely. Are you the only one to make it? Not even close. If anything, you were late to the party…
  4. But that trade at least made sense. You buy bullpen help at the deadline, yes, you’re going to give up the occasional good player. That doesn’t necessarily make it a bad trade. If anything, it’s how trades are supposed to work. But it’s a small sample size. Mayer had a .835 OPS after 48 PA, 50% more than Jordan has. Campbell was on his way to being the Offfensive Rookie of the Month at the same stage in his rookie year. And here we are with two young players many feel were rushed and have questionable futures. No reason to call Jordan a lock just yet…
  5. Especially keep Whitlock since Breslow has a tendency to ignore the bullpen…
  6. 1. You clearly don’t read your own posts. I suppose I shouldn’t blame you; I feel dumber and get into stupid arguments when I read them. 2. The entire point was about trading away prospects that pan out - does the return make it acceptable? Utah thought so, but I have had back and forth about how the Sox shouldn’t have traded Meidroth and Montgomery. We got Garret Crochet!! Of course we should have!! You don’t let a pitcher like that get away because you don’t want to trade Chase Meidroth! That was the point. Not sure why comparing Crochet to Sale due to injuries was a factor. And yes, WE ALL KNEW USING CROCHET THAT MANY INNINGS WAS RISKY! There were posts about his IP workload all throughout last year, and possibly even in spring training….
  7. Very much not for trading Mayer. To me the trade candidates are Chapman, Gray, IKF (although I’d love him back next year), Guerrero, and Duran. I’d add Story and Yoshida, but neither is going anywhere, unless Yoshida is heading to the waiver wire if he doesn’t start hitting soon…
  8. You went out of your way to compare him to Sale and his injuries, which cost Sale nearly 4 seasons of his career. You were specifically comparing them as injured players and did so in a conversation about trading prospects/young players that had NOTHING TO DO with pitching injuries or Chris Sale…
  9. Was it a bad trade or a good trade? Also it’s a but early to write Crochet off for the next 3 seasons due to a lat strain…
  10. Especially since college baseball pales in comparison to college football and basketball. The latter two sports have dedicated network air time, while college baseball is limited to occasional appearances on ESPN, and even then gets pre-empted if the network finds a more exciting poker tournament or spelling bee to broadcast…
  11. Well if they’re heading towards FA anyway…
  12. LOL. No it doesn’t. We had people complaining about giving up Chase Meidroth and Braden Montgomery (after one game no less), and we traded them for a Cy Young runner up.
  13. To tender of to non-tender? If soxprospects.com is right and Casas still has three options left, no brainer to tender him…
  14. I say go all the way to 2040. Not like we have any hitting lined up before then!
  15. Us as small portion of a few hundred thousand Sox fans? Sure. He’s aware the team has fans. Us as contributors to Talksox.com? Not a chance…
  16. Only 132 innings at shortstop. Hard to exceed league average in runs and outs with 75% less innings…
  17. Yes and they should. It’s still Breslow’s call to trade Mayer and he probably doesn’t know this forum exists, let alone care what we say. And he certainly doesn’t want our advice…
  18. After 312 career at bats and at 23 years old?
  19. If traded, I won’t miss Weissert. And neither will the swings of opposing hitters…
  20. That could be as well. Do the Sox call theirs “FenWAR”? But the BTV bottom line of projected production vs salary/projected salary is probably very common…
  21. While it’s unlikely any teams use BTV itself, they all do something similar - projected production vs projected salary. The biggest variable is what site(s) each uses for projections…
  22. If David Halberstam is ever afflicted with whatever starts the Zombie Apocalypse, I fully expect him to consume your brain first. Side note: Spell check tried to write “Zombie Apologist” instead and now I’m working on how to pitch that to HBO Max…
  23. I questioned Priester when it was made, because we traded immediate MLB-ready/experienced pitching deoth for minor leaguers that were seasons away, and for no reason. It immediately burned Boston as well, as there were injuries (notably Giolito) that created openings in the rotation. I admit not minding Harrison because 1) we needed another INF and Durbin was coming off a good rookie year, 2) the Sox had already dealt several other young pitchers, notably Dobbins that I had more faith in, and 3) while Harrison got very little opportunities in Boston, it’s not like his SF numbers made anyone think he was special…
  24. The Sale trade was unscripted. Hill knows how his movies are going to end before he even starts berating craft services workers…
