    Do you go to games? You live further from Fenway than I do, and I’m exactly 1,040 miles away (per Google Maps.) Let’s not pick on the people actually financing the team. If Fenway tickets only went to diehard fans, the team would never draw 10,000 fans ever again. The Baseball Junkies Crowd isn’t as large as represented on these forums, especially among people close enough to attend games. Stop the “pink hats” from going and you reduce the Sox revenue even more and give ownership even more reasons to cut payroll. Or to sell the team to someone who now has legit business reasons NOT to invest in the payroll to the satisfaction of diehard fans. If you look at the type of people who own MLB franchises, most of them spend much less than Henry already. Spending on payroll isn’t the panacea fans think it is. Only 4 of the top ten payrolls are over .500, and only 3 are more than 1 game over. And all of this fuss is because the Sox didn’t add Pete Alonso, who has a .581 OPS, 1 HR, and 5 RBI…

    Massive oversight on their part. I was wondering if they meant at the time the teams played. For example, Cincinnati was 0-0, 0-1 and 1-1 at the start of each game with Boston. But there is no getting around that the Brewers were 7-2 at the start of their series with Boston…

    If you don’t like the relevance of the Dodgers here, that doesn’t change that it has been a successful career path for numerous very successful pitchers. And again, there’s still a lot of potential benefit if Tolle stays in the bullpen. Whereas there is very little if Zack Kelly does, and the less said about Tayron Guerrero the better…

    I was thinking Casperius and Pepiot, but Knack and Stone work, too. Miller never pitched a relief inning in MLB. And it hasn’t exactly worked out. But now you’re focusing on the minutiae despite there being a very solid proven track record for this path. What’s the track record for AAA pitchers already on the 40 man without secondary pitches? Is reliever really such a bad option in today’s bullpen-oriented game? The. Sox tried to bleed value out of Whitlock by making him a starter with negative results. Houck was successfully converted, but is also out for the year (and potentially clogs up Tolle’s future in the rotation). Maybe Tolle really is best used as a high leverage reliever?

    Except for San Diego (10-6), Cincinnati (9-7), Milwaukee (8-7) and St. Louis (8-7) But yes, the other two are either .500 or worse…

    Don’t forget the Sox have already 1) added him to the 40 man roster 2) called him up to the bullpen before so that ship has actually already sailed, and 3) as I already said, it’s hardly an unblazed trail, with plenty of successful starting pitchers beginning their career as relievers. There are some benefits. Shorter, more frequent outings let him bounce back from bad ones quickly, ample opportunities to work on secondary pitches against actual MLB hitters. There are several MLB teams that use the bullpen as a starting point for most of their best starting pitching prospects, notably the Dodgers. But what do they know?

    Absolutely true, and his 1.346 OPS in AAA is -an insane expectation. Cheng also crushed all through the WBC. And he is an excellent defensive infielder, which establishes a solid floor. He’s not the answer to all the Sox problems, but he is doing everything you’d want from a prospect who is trying to get you to notice…

    Really? Plenty of top pitching prospects have started their MLB careers out that way, including Johan Santana, Chris Sale, Adam Wainwright, Pedro Martínez, David Price, Max Scherzer, etc.

    It looks like he’s gone past figuring it out and leapt all the way to “ready to write a book about it.” He won’t get MVP votes but somehow he’s probably a candidate for NL Comeback Player of the Year, because they like to occasionally give that award to breakouts instead of comebacks. And Walker is an excellent parallel for Campbell. Walker came up as a 3b with defensive concerns and was converted into an OF with defensive concerns. He’s still not a good OF, but St. Louis gave him a chance to figure something out there as well.,

    And some other sites are probably leaping on accusations about Jordan Walker taking steroids after his 7th home run in the past 9 games. But that doesn’t make it fact, no matter how many completely arbitrary people do it. It’s weird how you label players as suspect after a slump, but leap onto any fan gossip as if it has relevance. And weirder still is you call yourself a Red Sox fan, but then berate anyone for showing any signs of enthusiasm for this team…

    I wasn’t thrilled but it appears they Sox targeted him and made it happen. Hope he keeps it up…

    Tolle should be in the bullpen NOW. I get he has more value as a starter, but the Sox have 7 starters under contract this season. Only two can leave after. But even once they go, Kyson Witherspoon and Juan Valera and others keep getting closer to MLB. Tolle can pitch relief now. Boston needs someone that can. This should have already happened…

    Like I said, I doubt they will. At least not in April. But he’s not really giving them a reason not to, and Cheng is giving them a reason to notice him…

    Hitting in the AL is down, so many look at the Sox output as a stand-alone and not where they are amongst the league. Boston needs to improve, and some games can make this team look hopeless. But they are not as bad as many think. I worry more about the bullpen than the lineup…

    While they probably give Durbin a longer leash than Campbell had, DEMOTING A YOUNG PLAYER IS NOT GIVING UP ON HIM.
