  1. But he is the one not changing anything regardless of failure. And apparently the one not re-arranging the defense out of fear of talking to players…
  2. The Buehler signing didn’t work out, but it had no lasting repercussions. Dustin May made zero sense to acquire. If he had anything left in the tank, don’t you think the Dodgers keep him? Wuth no more waiver trade deadline, why would any contending team trade a useful SP, knowing full well they would not be able to add another one the rest of the year? And the answer of course is, they would not trade a USEFUL SP, but they would gladly part with a useless one…
  3. To me, there are legitimate complaints and, well, nonsensical ones. Trading Tibbs for May? Absolutely a legit complaint on a stupid move. Trading Garcias for Oviedo? Who can tell since neither is in MLB right now? That other post where someone was complaining about the Sox having Monasterio instead of Yaz/Papi/Ted etc? Complete nonsense that really deserved far more sarcasm than I piled on.
  4. The thing is, the Sox don’t have the worst lineup in MLB. Not even close. But they’re at the bottom in scoring. And while certainly not completely at fault, Alex Cora is certainly doing nothing to change that. I’m starting to wonder if Cora is trying to get fired. There are only two real possibilities for some of his decisions. 1) He’s a complete moron. And 2) he wants out but in a way he gets to keep the entirety of his remaining contract. And I don’t think he’s a complete moron at least I never have before in all his years here, although I have called some of his actions moronic…
  5. True. Although a Duran/Paredes deal did make sense for both teams. Houston just wanted more…
  6. It’s still more accurate than human umpires…
  7. Or at a minimum, stop getting opportunities to pitch with small leads…
  8. How stupid of Breslow to trade away the obvious platoon partner for Marcelo Mayer. Just because Jhostynyxon has never played infield before doesn’t mean he can’t, right? Two posts ago, the complaint was that Breslow needed a power bat and still traded away the Sox best one in Garcia. Now Garvia could have been weak side platoon option for - Marcelo Mayer? How many more posts about Password until we relegate him to AAA like the Pirates did?
  9. Right. Cora should promote Story and Duran to the 1-2 spots in the order and get them MORE plate appearances. Also move Abreu down and make sure he platoons all lefties regardless of splits…
  10. I don’t think tjis team will miss Jhostnyxon Garcia and his .619 OPS. The OF shouldn’t be the weakness on the team. And it isnt. The infielders not named Mayer on the other hand…
  11. I doubt Bregman has much of a slugging career left in him, abd he’ll likely be an albatross before that deal is done. But the idea of getting Ketel Marte, Isaac Paredes (at Fenway) and a few other names that popped up tjis off-season was certainly appealing…
  12. That deal was just stupid. Trading Tibbs for a rental would hardly be unprecedented. But from the Dodgers? Theyre clearly not selling!! And with no August deadline, why are they trading pitching in July? Hint: they don’t expect much if anything from him…
  13. Right. The choice was between a Hall of Fame hitter and a utility infielder that wouldn’t even be on the team if Romy was healthy. Contreras and Durbin have been weak additions. Story and Duran have been useless returning hitters. Three of those 4 noodle swingers bat in the top 4 of the Sox lineup everyday, thanks to Cora. But yes, we shouldn’t overlook that our CBO clearly preferred Monasterio over Bryce Harper…
  14. Ummm.. May is neither that far away nor close to the end of the season…
  15. Were the Harrison and Tibbs we received the ones from Miami Vice?
  16. Refsnyder was always a journeyman. But that doesn’t mean he wasn’t an option for a weak side platoon bat in 2022…
  17. Good point. I forgot about him amongst all the Manny, Hanley, Greenwell, O’Leary, etc of defensive mediocrity the Sox have dropped out in LF. Benintendi was a good outfielder and very likely the only decent defensive left fielder between 1970 and 2025…
  18. Misleading post from Speier. While the Sox have never gone to the postseason after starting 1-5, bear in mind that stat covers numerous postseason format changes that can affect that outcome. For example, the 1996 Red Sox started out 1-5 (actually 0-5) and did miss the postseason. But they also finished with a record of 85-77 that would have tied them with the White Sox for the third wild card under the current postseason format. (The Sox went 6-6 against each other that year; I’m not digging any deeper into tie breaking rules from 30 years ago.) I’m sure if I kept looking into it, I could find another season with a 1-5 start where the Sox finished with over 90 wins, but “failed to make the postseason” because only one team from each league made it that year (meaning prior to 1969) or they finished second in the AL East but there were no wild cards (1970 to 1995). Speier’s statement is very likely true, but not necessarily any sort of harbinger of doom…
  19. Maybe he takes more DH at bats? But really, have the Sox had a decent / serviceable defensive LF since Yaz?
  20. The Sox reportedly offered Bogaerts 6 years $162 mill before he accepted the superior San Diego deal. But the Sox first offfere was a 4 year $90mill extension, deemed insulting by fans. Given that Bogaerts has been a league-average hitter (OPS+ 103) and below average defensive SS since going to San Diego, has he even been worth the 4 years $90mill?
  21. Actually it’s so he can go to bed earlier and get rid of himself sooner…
