    Red Sox have 6 overall on the MLB.com Top 100 list, with Anthony (3), Mayer (7), Campbell (10), Teel (25), Montgomery (54) and Arias (95). The Cubs have the most listed prospects, with 8. The least is 1, by the Yankees, Blue Jays and Astros.

    Hunter Brown isn’t getting traded. The Astros still own the AL West and very likely expect to compete and win another pennant next year. Their alleged pitching depth is already depleted, since both Cristian Javier and Luis Garcia required TJ last season and are both likely out until August at the earliest. Plus they have Lance McCullers, who can materialize on the IL if you say his name 3 times in a row. And Framber Valdez, who has one year before free agency, which probably makes him more available than Brown. Fans in Houston might be claiming the dynasty is over. Doubtful the Astros themselves feel that way…

    Most likely both. They’ll pay half AND get a low-ranked inconsequential prospect. If their good about it, they might get some Greg Weissert type fringe reliever who has his moments…

    You do realize these are arguments FOR trading Duran? Right? If one year of Soto rebuilt the Padres rotation, what does 4 years of Duran offer? There are advantages to trying to move Duran over Soto. With Soto, the one year limited you to teams ready to compete now. And the $25mill contract limited you to teams with big budgets. Duran is in everyone’s price range…

    Yes, there was a time when an 8 year $160 mill contract got you Manny Ramirez. Nowadays, it gets you Brandon Nimmo. I’d be surprised if the Sox signed any SP beyond maybe some MiLB depth deals. Maybe some relievers and acquire a SP via trade. Most likely Abreu, but i wouldn’t eliminate the possibility of Duran…

    I align the same people differently. 1b/DH - ok with Casas/Devers 2b - Hamilton/ Campbell. Not a platoon. I just doubt Campbell is there opening day SS - Story/Mayer. With Mayer in WOO until Story gets hurt 3b - Romy/Grissom. Give both a shot. Admittedly I might be buying a bit too much into the article about Romy’s power and needed swing adjustments.

    They’d save money, but probably less than they’d make with ticket sales by trotting out Yoshida over Gray…

    If the Sox can deal Duran and come out of it like the Padres did in dealing Soto, I think most of us wouldn’t mind. And I know Duran is no Soto, but Duran also has 4 years of control and is pre-arb. Soto was dealt with only one year left and a salary of $25mill. And still got back Michael King and Drew Thorpe, whom the Padres then flipped for Dylan Cease. Its not easy and the Sox would have to know who to target, but if they can deal Duran for even a fraction of that, it might be worth it…

    I’ve heard some little birds talking about the Cardinals cutting payroll. If so, Sonny Gray (2 yes $65mill left) is most definitely available, but likely not in any deal involving Yoshida. A lot of Sox fans do think Bloom is an idiot, and he absolutely has flaws, but he’s not going to ruin the Cardinals for the sake of helping Boston. His biggest issue was always pulling the trigger on deals for MLB players. He probably wouldn’t mind a few players he drafted in return for Gray…
