  1. I think so. It’s not like Bo Bichette was going to sign here to play backup SS/3b…
  2. And only give up maybe 130 or so runs. A sparkling ERA of about 585.00…
  3. Bello for Shaw - who says no? (Hint: his names rhymes with Jed Hoyer)
  4. Bello has always been my top choice to trade. The Sox have 7 starters with MLB experience vying for 5 opening day slots, and should again have Houck at some point next year. Bello is an attractive trade piece that l’d swap for numerous 2b or 3b options straight up. I look at IKF as Mayer Insurance. The big gripe about Mayer is he gets hurt every year. So Breslow went out and got a Gold Glove third baseman. Is that really a problem?
  5. If it comes down to the Cubs, BTV gives fair trades as 1. Witherspoon for Hoerner 2. Tolle for Shaw Of those two, and both are tough calls, I do Tolle for Shaw. Shaw has much more control and much more power. Both are excellent defensive players. Witherspoon might have the higher ceiling, but he’s also much further away. But with the Sox current pitching depth, I’m in no rush on Witherspoon..
  6. MLB drafting based on position is stupid. Do you really know what you’re going to need 2-4 years down the road?
  7. For 3b, Alec Bohm? Next year’s free agent class is far from dazzling…
  8. Shaw had a horrible first half but his second half was extremely impressive. The Cubs can afford to move Shaw because they have BA Top 100 prospect James Triantos right behind him, so they’re covered even with Nico on just one year…
  9. Doesn’t that apply to every player?
  10. You lost a lot of credibility when you called Suarez the Sox #5 pitcher. Especially behind the 4 you listed. Crawford and Tolle? It’s possible IKF is an insurance policy and the Sox are waiting until ST injuries ser in to see what is next available for Duran or Bello or whoever…
  11. The Netherlands team does get some impressive islanders, like Bogaerts, Acuna, Profar, Andrelton Simmons, etc…
  12. Well, they do have 23 pitchers and catchers on the 40 man roster. 24 if you count Gasper, who likely hasn’t reported yet…
  13. Dogs are adorable morons. I watched mine chase a rabbit and run headfirst into a rather stationary tool shed. He was fine. The shed was fine. And of course, the rabbit was fine…
  14. 42 career innings at 2b. A new name has entered the race!
  15. They could definitely be compared to Witherspoon and Mayer. As in “Jurrangelo Cijntje and Ben Williamson are nowhere near as good as Kyson Witherspoon and Marcelo Mayer.” Or did you mean compared favorably? If so, then no, they cannot be…
  16. Bregman got hurt May 23rd, 3 weeks before Devers was traded. And Devers didn’t see any time at 3b. So, yeah, they sold his glove on eBay…
  17. I never thought he’d be a good 3b. At least not in the past 3 years. There was a time when he was pretty good there, but if you sign any player to a one year deal, apparently MLB is real stickler about it being the current year, and not, say, 2019…
  18. It’s amazing how many folks go out of their way to praise the Dodgers rotation like it’s some previously unseen collection of talent. Last year, they had one pitcher in the top 12 in fWAR; Philadelphia had FOUR. That’s the true best staff. In fact, since Suarez (12th with 4.0 fWAR) is now in Boston, the Sox have more pitchers that were in the top 12 than the Dodgers did last year…
  19. BTV suggests Tolle for Shaw or Witherspoon for Hoerner are fair trades. No idea what the Cubs think. Those both do seem pretty fair to me…
  20. The Cubs aren’t hurting for outfielders. They already unloaded one (Owen Caissie) for pitching earlier this off-season. The big problem with trying to deal with the Cubs here is a Matt Shaw-for-Dalton Rushing trade does make sense for both sides and leaves Boston out in the cold…
  21. Their weakest position is probably catcher. Not our easiest deal. Pitchers and prospects, I guess…
  22. I think he only means to trade one of them. The slash means options. The big issue with that deal is the Cubs have a really good starting OF. They’re probably the only team where Rafaela is a potential step down in CF defense. (Arguments can be made for Minnesota as well.) The Cubs only position question mark is DH, which looks like it might be handled by roly poly Miguel Ballesteros. Suzuki did DH last year but he reportedly did not like it and he is a pretty good outfielder. (Matt Shaw might see at bats here?) And no, they’re not trading Hoerner for Yoshida…
