No, Uberstine was an exaggeration. I’m really not seeing the “ hey this is what we got for our two time Cy Young winner” value in River Ryan. Especially post- injury… -
I hope they don’t waste time upgrading catcher. There’s a reason catchers rarely move at the deadline. LF, SP and RP. And if they add a veteran bench bat like a Ty France, that’s fine

Back then, everyone had Mayer in their top 15, and i some cases top 10 prospects for all of MLB. I do not think any values him that way today....

I admit I find that surprising, Or I'm surprised that none of Baseball America, MLB.com or Baseball Prospectus have ever ranked him anywhere.. Fangraphs gives him a future value of 50, which is very high, but none of this does Detroit any good if he cannot ever take the mound...

I don’t see the Royals unloading Witt for a slew of prospects just so they can hope and dream one of them turns into the next Bobby Witt and they can revisit this exact same scenario in 4 or 5 years…

Thats the “glass half full” description. Now I see a 27 year old pitcher coming off TJ with a 4.68 ERA in AAA and a pedigree built on all of 20 MLB innings (pre-injury) and no Top 100 ranking anywhere per baseball-reference. I don’t see him as the #2 piece for the top pitcher in MLB, even as a rental. (Hope does make some sense as a top piece.) If the Sox were selling, would you like to see River Ryan as part of the package for Chapman or Gray?

It does seem like Breslow prefers to only make trades with former Sox executives. Getting Bennett from Toboni, Contreras and Gray from Bloom, and Oviedo from Cherington. But no one from Hoyer? You know, the Cubs have an absolute glut of infielders and infield prospects that are all blocked for the next 3 seasons. Matt Shaw, James Triantos and the most Boston-named player in MLB Pedro Ramirez. And the Cubs DESPERATELY need pitching. And, yes, all are reportedly available. Plus no rumors. It fits Breslow’s under-the-radar approach in multiple ways…

Madrigal was older and wasn’t the same level of prospect Mayer has been, never being ranked under #40. Mayer has never been ranked over #15. I imagine his equal value to Lopez is a slow update. Or some sites are still giving Mayer very good projections… -

Do the Sox really need any more of the multi-position utility players? Especially ones on the injured list? Morejon is an extermely talented RP that is on the very short list of woethwhile free agents after this season. He was an All Star this year, which is not something a lot of non-closing relievers do. I'd take Morejon, but not for Mayer unless he (Morejon) was paired with someoe more useful than Samad Tayor....
