The whole "trades within the division" thing is overblown, especially with rental players. It actually makes a ton of sense for Toronto to trade Gausman within the division. If they are trading him, they are giving up on 2026 anyway and hoping for 2027 or later. Well, that future gets just that much easier if they take a prospect or two from a division rival as opposed to just a random team. Trades within the division happen all the time. But when you only have 4 teams in your division and 25 of them utside of it, it is easier to find trading partners outside the division. I mean, just a few days ago the Angels traded Chase Silseth and Logan O'Hoppe within their division...

I think that is crazy. Pick on BTV all you like, but are you really saying you know their values better? In my post, I did question their evaluation of him, calling it a huge stretch. (It's probably a bit outdated. They're a small operation.) But I can't claim i understand player valuation better than they do. It's really difficult to find very many trades where a team just gave up on a top prospect that had as little experience as Mayer and dealt him for a rental player. I can only think of it happening twice . Th Athletics dealing Carlos Gonzalez (318 PA) to the Rockies for Matt Holliday The Athletics dealing Jesus Luzardo (71 IP) to the Marlins for Starling Marte I think we both see a pattern there. So only one team has ever made a trade like that. And I doubt the Sox have given up on Mayer nearly as much as many fans have. I am also 100% positive many teams value him more than you do, if not all of them. I do think Mayer could be dealt. With the rises of Durbin and Arias as well as the acquisition of Mead, he is without a position. But he isn't going for a rental, unless it is someone like Skubal. And I don't think either Boston or Detroit is looking at that deal...

Mayer is worth more than a 2 month rental on a reliever. I doubt things change that much that rapidly in baseball that Marcelo Mayer can go from a top 15 prospect in all of baseball to bring a “almost enough” to get a rental reliever all in a span of 300 plate appearances and before he can legally rent a car. None of us know how much value he has left around the league. BTV gives him similar value to Otto Lopez, which feels like a huge stretch. But certainly he has more value than rental reliever + career minor leaguer…

We are seeing some buyer-buyer trades lately, notably Guardians-Brewers and Pirates-Yankees. But Arozarena feels like a stretch for Seattle to deal. If Duran was somewhat hitting I could see them making a swap featuring the two left fielders. But then of Duran was somewhat hitting, Boston likely wouldn’t have any interest in Arozarena…

I did kind of like it until I realized Samar Taylor isn’t any sort of prospect but is more of a career minor leaguer. Also he’s on the IL…

lol. Mazz has been critical of all things Boston for a long time now, and is a blatant liar to boot. Why does the Boston media put up with this crap? I’m ok with negativity when it’s called for, but too many Boston sportswriters just live in this “must say bad things” world…

Well, bear in mind someone from the American League has to go. If the Sox are not even contenders, who is? As weird as it sounds after a very slow April and May, Boston has the third best season record in the American League, tied with Chicago. As good as or better than every team in the AL Central and AL West. The only two teams with better records are Tampa and New York, and Boston completed four game sweeps of both of them recently. So why aren’t the Sox contenders?

The Mets are not moving Soto, and, no, they are not selling everything off to rebuild. They didn’t jack up the payroll to $350mill just to see if it worked for a year. The Mets will try to improve by dumping the underperforming players, not the performing ones..

Even if we deal Arias, it likely means we kept Mayer. Story is a very likely DFA after the season unless he ends the year with some unlikely honor like World Series MVP…

At what point in time was Hamilton properly evaluated as a “star”? His numbers have ALWAYS been better in Boston. And with those numbers here, he was a player - and I paraphrase - many wanted traded to prevent Cora from starting him. But he puts up worse numbers in Milwaukee, but has one good game against Boston, and he’s a star? Give me a break. That’s not comparable to switching from sell to buy after a 21-4 stretch. Not even close. And comparing us to published journalists is also ridiculous…

Anyone still complaining about the Harrison trade should have their NESN subscription permanently revoked. The Sox are coming off their best month in their 123 year history, and 3/4 of their current starting infield for came from that one trade. It’s been more than worth it…

Of the two, it’s far more likely Narvaez is in a short term funk. O’Hoppe has seen his OPS drop by large chunks for 3 straight years. Narvaez was hitting as recently as 12 months ago…
