  1. So they weren’t competitive last year? The Sox had a top ten (really, too seven) offense last year. And that was a team that got only 50 fewer plate appearances from Abraham Toro than they got from Rafael Devers, and got more PA from Romy Gonzalez than from Roman Anthony,,, The offense should be improved this year, maybe not by much. But it will be better than many present it is in their “if you’re not first, you’re last” mentality where fans value marquee named players over good teams…
  2. So L-R batting order supersedes OPS now?
  3. So the Sox are unloading Yoshida to free up money for what exactly? To sign Suarez and hope he can hit outside of Arizona? Trading for Vientos is even worse. So include Yoshida to reduce the return abd get back Vientos, who is essentially a younger Eugenio Suarez? But not like a 25 year old Eugenio Suarez. Vientos’ plays like a 35 year old Suarez and is ready to decline. Baty is ok, but I’m not trading Duran for him. And usingDuran to dump Yoshida/Hicks is equally bad. The Sox are probably going to sit on their pitching until someone comes calling. If they wanted Suarez, they’d have already signed him and done what every MLB team does - dump salary later…
  4. It’s still January. While the Sox might not do much snd might even be comfortable with Hamilton/Romy, a lot can happen. Not sure if they’re simply waiting for Houck to be eligible for the 60 day IL or for other teams to have more pitching needs or whatever else. Maybe the promote Arias. Maybe they make a deal. Maybe Kristian Campbell jumps back in the picture. I know that last one seems like a long shot among long shots, but once I saw Denise Richards play a nuclear physicist named Dr. Christmas Jones, I stopped eliminating possibilities on the basis of stupidity…
  5. The No Trade Clause strikes me as a silly dealbreaker. The $165 million dollar debt already acts as a limited NTC. Does Bregman really think teams were going to be clamoring to pay him $35mill a year through age 38? Plus his insistence on one arguably shows a lack of confidence. I mean, didnt her think he can make us competitors every year? Why is he so concerned about the Sox going into sell mode?
  6. You live in a state where people snort cocaine off the backs of alligators while on their way to purchase guns, and it’s THE WEATHER that makes you drink?
  7. Whatever words you like. Which one screams of desperation? The one you rewrote without changing the meaning? Or the one blatantly written to epitomize desperation? Not sure why bidding against himself is supposed to be a good thing. It’s a frequent message board accusation that is rarely used positively. I’ve never once said “Thank God he bid against himself.” Well, now I have. Thats one more absolute claim I can no longer make honestly…
  8. I don’t care what this Mrs Webster person says! I’m not paying!
  9. Sounds like you will be drinking a lot this weekend…
  10. I know nothing about the guy; I’m speaking in generalities. But this makes him sound like a re-incarnation of Michael “I’m Not Dead Yet” Morse, but maybe with fewer PEDs. If that’s a fair comparison, he absolutely has trade value especially as a minimum wage player…
  11. Complimentary as in free?
  12. Right. It was a compliment. I mean, what professional athlete doesn’t aspire to be compared to an overweight, middle-aged caveman?
  13. Lockouts when the CBA expires are one of two things you can count on in perpetuity. The other is that the save icon will always be a floppy disk…
  14. Bonilla has been retired for a quarter of a century! I remember reading an article about that contract and how it actually did benefit the Mets as well as Bobby..
  15. I don’t agree with any of this. Ranger Suarez was nobody’s Plan C, let alone Plan F. I don’t see this desperation. In fact, I’m not sure why youre decrying desperation when you clearly want it. For example: Scenario 1: Boras: Thanks for the offer. But, surprise, surprise, we have another larger one, so you need to give us more money. Breslow: Oh my God!! No!! Of course I will capitulate to all your demands!!! Scenario 2: Boras: Thanks for the offer. But, surprise, surprise, we have another larger one, so you need to give us more money. Breslow: I’ve seen this show before. You have my offer. If it’s not enough, then take your other deal and I’ll sign someone else. Which of those scenarios screams “desperation”?
  16. And even if Arroyo peaks as a utility infielder, that can still represent a $2-3mill savings for some team. That might not mean much to Sox fans, but to teams like the Pirates, that can be important…
  17. Was that the year of Chavis for Davis? And we got Hansel Robles! That was Bloom’s best deadline, although Vazquez for Abreu is looking really good right now…
  18. I think no one liked waiting for him to come off the IL, but that’s about it…
  19. So you’re more worried about losing your cleaning lady than your girlfriend? That seems a little… well, I mean. Just how clean does she get stuff and does she mop floors?
  20. Well, it certainly is an unsupported hypothesis…
  21. Any model in any field anywhere that has the purpose of predicting the future willl be wrong at some point. This mathematical law is often referred to as The Weatherman’s Corollary. Or would be, if anyone other than me ever said it…
  22. Someone is projecting him to be one. And if he only plays 2 years with just over 2 fWAR total, he justifies that valuation…
  23. Trevor Hoffman’s older brother was drafted and signed by Boston - so he’s Sox Adjacent. And while Glenn never officially converted from SS to pitcher, he did hit like one. I give those baseball card mags a ton of credit for comparing Rodriguez to Ohtani in 1990. The comp probably didn’t make as much sense than as it does today…
  24. Too many of your anti-Breslow posts live in the realm of speculation and shifting timelines. And never acknowledge that the Sox at least successfully executed Plan B…
