  1. Right. It was a compliment. I mean, what professional athlete doesn’t aspire to be compared to an overweight, middle-aged caveman?
  2. Lockouts when the CBA expires are one of two things you can count on in perpetuity. The other is that the save icon will always be a floppy disk…
  3. Bonilla has been retired for a quarter of a century! I remember reading an article about that contract and how it actually did benefit the Mets as well as Bobby..
  4. I don’t agree with any of this. Ranger Suarez was nobody’s Plan C, let alone Plan F. I don’t see this desperation. In fact, I’m not sure why youre decrying desperation when you clearly want it. For example: Scenario 1: Boras: Thanks for the offer. But, surprise, surprise, we have another larger one, so you need to give us more money. Breslow: Oh my God!! No!! Of course I will capitulate to all your demands!!! Scenario 2: Boras: Thanks for the offer. But, surprise, surprise, we have another larger one, so you need to give us more money. Breslow: I’ve seen this show before. You have my offer. If it’s not enough, then take your other deal and I’ll sign someone else. Which of those scenarios screams “desperation”?
  5. And even if Arroyo peaks as a utility infielder, that can still represent a $2-3mill savings for some team. That might not mean much to Sox fans, but to teams like the Pirates, that can be important…
  6. Was that the year of Chavis for Davis? And we got Hansel Robles! That was Bloom’s best deadline, although Vazquez for Abreu is looking really good right now…
  7. I think no one liked waiting for him to come off the IL, but that’s about it…
  8. So you’re more worried about losing your cleaning lady than your girlfriend? That seems a little… well, I mean. Just how clean does she get stuff and does she mop floors?
  9. Well, it certainly is an unsupported hypothesis…
  10. Any model in any field anywhere that has the purpose of predicting the future willl be wrong at some point. This mathematical law is often referred to as The Weatherman’s Corollary. Or would be, if anyone other than me ever said it…
  11. Someone is projecting him to be one. And if he only plays 2 years with just over 2 fWAR total, he justifies that valuation…
  12. Trevor Hoffman’s older brother was drafted and signed by Boston - so he’s Sox Adjacent. And while Glenn never officially converted from SS to pitcher, he did hit like one. I give those baseball card mags a ton of credit for comparing Rodriguez to Ohtani in 1990. The comp probably didn’t make as much sense than as it does today…
  13. Too many of your anti-Breslow posts live in the realm of speculation and shifting timelines. And never acknowledge that the Sox at least successfully executed Plan B…
  14. On talent? No. But Arroyo would be a minimum wage player for 3 years, which is worth a lot…
  15. Or waiting for some teams to have the inevitable pitching injuries that make other players more available all of the sudden…
  16. You say “called” in the past tense as if he ever stopped…
  17. By who? We gave up a nobody who since that trade has played as many MLB games as me…
  18. Joe Nathan Trevor Hoffman Rafael Betancourt
  19. You’re right. He pitched 3.1 IP in relief for the Giants. But he still changed roles mid-season, and that might have impacted. Even if it’s didnt,he still only gave Boston 19 IP last year and Thsts not exactly a significant sample size. He can certainly bounce back…
  20. The thing is, agents counter all the time with fake offers in hopes of getting teams to bid against themselves. Boras was using that exact strategy on the Yankees with Bellinger while he was trying to get Breslow to up his bid. Sometimes it’s real, but sometimes it’s just a blatant lie to get more money and even then it probably works. No idea how often. Breslow had no way of knowing if it was real or not. Hes probably dealt with this exact same tactic from Boras before The good part is at least they pivoted to Suarez and landed him. If they signed Bregman, that probably doesn’t happen. So, yes he failed to land Bregman because he chose not to bid against himself. Is that a bad thing? And he wound up with a pretty good Plan B almost immediately. Is that a bad thing? Not sure why tjis is an issue at all…
  21. I was, back before he signed with Minnesota. But not this off-season, no..
  22. The point is Refsnyder was a lousy outfielder and Cora kept running him out there regardless. I’m glad he stopped trying to make Arroyo one and I hope if he tries to put Romy out there, he doesn’t just hope it pans out and keep trying it until it does…
  23. That Sox fans are desperate to dump Hicks AFTER EIGHTEEN INNINGS PITCHED in a season in which he not only switched teams, but switched roles and then barely got a chance to adjust might rank as the biggest snap judgement Ive seen on here in a while. Hicks has had a good career as a RP. Keep him in that role. Is he really even overpaid? He makes $12.5 mill this season. Former Red Sox washout Brad Keller just signed for $11mill AAV. Trading Hicks is probably a bad move, especially if you’re using him to reduce what you get back for topflight players…
  24. 17 times? OMFG! Thats hardly in the same category as Refsnyder, and if Cora puts Romy in RF 17 times and then gives up, I don’t think it’s a disaster either…
