  1. Francis’ last 4 starts: 29IP, 32K 3BB 6H 0.62ERA That’s a helluva stretch for a 28yo career minor leaguer/depth starter.
  2. So you think the Sox should ignore significant injury histories when going all in for starting pitching? Jacob deGrom’s agent agrees.
  3. Bloom didn’t do a press briefing on scoring Abreu or Pham. He talked plenty about Hosmer…
  4. If your problem is pitching injuries, Shane Bieber is not a solution. Different story if your problem is an overabundance of healthy and talented pitchers. But sadly that’s not where the Sox are at right now…
  5. Except that Cooper was pulled off the waiver wire, whereas Hosmer was the Big Name acquisition at the trade deadline. And Cooper, a role player by trade, was a good player who struggled for 75 PA in Boston. Hosmer was a multimillion dollar player touted as one who “fell right into [Bloom’s] lap” as the big high profile acquisition set to salvage the 2022 season. All this despite the fact that Hosmer has sucked since 2017…
  6. They’re both on the Injured List. Except for Hill…
  7. Spend his $18mill on pitching? So another Giolito?
  8. Yoshida has a .847 OPS since April 16. He’s showing us he can hit. Why are oeople trying to offload him?
  9. I prefer a GM who tries and makes bad moves to one who just can’t pull any triggers ever. Breslow just been snakebit. He trades a 35yo pitcher who hasn’t been himself since he was 30, and the guy morphs in Sandy Koufax. He signs an innings eater who absolutely shows up and never misses a start, and the guy tears a ligament. He trades for two relievers who have done solid work for several years, and both flop, especially Garcia, who in every appearance gets hammered like a sorority girl on Jell-O shot night. But at least he doesn’t drag home a steaming pile of Eric Hosmer and try to tell me how lucky we are to have it…
  10. Like the Cubs…
  11. Was Sale a good pitcher? His last 5 years with Boston, he was 17-18 with a 4.16ERA and turned 35 this year.
  12. Sox should, but he also might not last until their claim. Hopefully they do the smart thing here.
  13. This one season might not be representative. Do some math from 2020-2023 first and see if you draw the same conclusion.
  14. It’s pretty much the best the Sox can get in a Story trade. Best move is, if Mayer is ready, move Story to 2b. And move in Grissom when he gets hurt.
  15. Trade Story (3 yes $80mill) for Kris Bryant (4 yrs $108mill) and you get your RHH power bat. Figure out later where he plsys
  16. I don’t think so, either, but I think he’s simply their best option. Especially since the Sox blatantly refuse to listen to me and repeatedly passed on Paul DeJong, which you just know was done out of spite.
  17. That’s why the Sox need to hold on to Mayer.
  18. Fielding percentage is a useless stat. The Sox could put Stephen Hawking at shortstop, and as long as he fielded all those grounders that he could get to (re: grounders hit right at him) his fielding percentage would stay at 1.000. Of course all ones he couldn’t get to - most of the, safe bet - would just be scored as hits…
  19. The starters in those five games - Criswell (2), Bello (2), and Pivetta. Criswell with two seems surprising until you remember he’s the “starter” with the fewest IP on the team, and is probably the only one not running in fumes.
  20. “Burnes and Fried”, for the record, would be a great name for a satirical cooking show starring a comedy duo. I’m thinking the type of show where the “chefs” try to make macaroni and cheese, but wind up in the burn unit with molten cheddar in their hair.
  21. Hopefully the Sox do a better job addressing pitching needs this off-season. Or at least don’t just throw up their arms and quit the second something goes awry. They will add Giolito next season, but will he be ready in April? His TJ was in March, and TJ often takes over a year for pitchers. Pivetta could leave. If he does the Sox need two SP at a minimum. Hopefully they haven’t already penned in Priester as one of them. (IMHO Priester should start in Worcester as SP6.) I have my doubts they’ll go all in and sign Burnes and Fried for these roles. They might try and make another move on Garret Crochet, but unless they include someone like Anthony or Mayer, they likely get outbid. Wilyer Abreu won’t get it done here. Free agency has some less appealing names like Flaherty, Flexen and Manaea. That’s more the ballpark I’m expecting here. The Sox might trade from their surpluses at the MLB level. There are not enough outfield roles for Duran, Rafaela, Abreu, and Anthony. Middle infield is even more crowded with Story, Hamilton, Grissom, and Mayer. They could move someone to third and shift Devers to first, but then Casas is displaced, unless they move him to DH. Of course, Yoshida is a tough trade and moving him back to the OF just exacerbates that already overcrowded place. I suppose Casas could be traded, but I’m not expecting that.
  22. Wow, that Luis Garcia has been just what Dr. Kevorkian ordered. (Look it up.)
  23. No. “Old Timey” just means we write our posts directly on to the monitor with a quill pen loaded with the ink of a freshly-milked squid.
