  1. I assumed Whitlock’s time in the rotation was done when Bloom got fired. So either Breslow is too much like Bloom or it was never part of the strategy of either one. …
  2. I forgot about Giolito. He is perfectly welcome to come join the Sox and assume his rightful place on the Injured List…
  3. I’m ok with re-arranging the pieces. It’s a modular suggestion…
  4. Thoughts C: Teel, Wong 1b: Devers 2b: Grissom 3b: Eugenio Suarez (free agent. Still good D using UZR and OAA. Likely to take a one year deal) SS: Story, to start the year. LF: Duran CF: Rafaela RF: Anthony. If he gets a Rafaela type extension, Super Two is not a concern. SP: Houck, Bello, Crawford, Bryce Miller (acquired for Casas and Abreu) and another (Pivetta?) RP: Hendriks, Whitlock, Winckowski, Slaten, Kelly plus 3 others TBD Mayer can start in Worcester and come up if Story gets hurt or a Grissom just flops…
  5. What about Grissom? He isn’t dead. No reason to treat him like he is…
  6. Always possible: 1b: Devers 2b: Grissom 3b: Story SS: Mayer Or 3b could be a free agent. Options besides Chapman include Bregman (ugh), Moncada (major health issues) or Eugenio Suarez (low BA/OBP, but solid RHH power)…
  7. I imagine Mayer starts in Polar Park, in case Story continues his MIA streak. Grissom, like him or not, is going to get a legitimate shot someplace. They paid up on Sale to get this guy. They’re not relegating him to AAAA utility infielder after 80 PA. If they deal Casas for pitching and move Devers to 1b, that does leave 3b open. Grissom? Casas doesn’t match up with any Seattle pitcher on BTV. But Casas plus Abreu is roughly equal to Bryce Miller on that site. Moving Abreu frees up right field for the on oncoming Roman Anthony Express…
  8. Not really. The truth is he gave away Sale and all that money to finance a production of “No, No, Nanette” at Newton North High School…
  9. I think no one minds when the game thread goes up, but if they start winning, it becomes a commitment. One good hot streak and you’ll be out here every morning starting game threads by 11am…
  10. Guys like Heineman, Alfaro, Joe Hudson, Christian Bethancourt, etc. - 30+ year old minor league catchers - are the MLB equivalent of punters. Year to year, team to team. They keep getting work because it’s baseball’s most specialized position and you need a few extra bodies just in case…
  11. I know a Seattle needs some hitting, but at the expense of their rotation? Not sure if any of Kirby, Gilbert, Woo, or Miller are available. I will say, if any are, the bidding does probably start with Anthony…
  12. … unless opponents hit the occasional ball to shortstop…
  13. But those are NOT SOLD IN STORES!!
  14. … unless Seattle hires Oscar the Grouch to be their new CBO…
  15. Do you think Rafaela has done well with the Sox shortstop situation?
  16. Why did the Dodgers release him? Brent Honeywell is one of those guys who can injure himself by thinking too hard. Is he hurt again and the Dodgers decided to just drop him? He was pitching pretty well in limited action this year…
  17. They have the perpetually injured Story, whose defense is terrific and whose offense is questionable. Rafaela is a CF and Hamilton is a utility infielder/pinch runner. Not sure why the Sox didn’t claim Amed Rosario this week. Or Luis Guillorme, who hasn’t played much SS, but is a terrific defender in the rest of the infield…
  18. Can’t. Too many players burned their hand removing cookies from the oven…
  19. It sure feels like one…
  20. Except one of those two games was Hamilton…
  21. Guys like Keller and Wingenter were forgettable, but they still count…
  22. They sure as heck aren’t gonna donate it to the Hare Krishnas. They’ll pocket some, and re-invest some in another sports venture, like a professional disc golf league or falconry or roller derby…
  23. No. Next question…
  24. More active than you document. I bet that’s less than half of his in-season acquisitions. But I suppose one question that might help here is one of perspective. I don’t expect you to research an answer, but ot matters if this level of activity is on the low end, high end or in the middle among MLB CBO/GMs…
  25. I get passing. I’m just talking about how there are repeated links and predictions around the web about expensive players the Sox could/should sign when the reality has been they’re more than likely not going to pay…
