  1. Enmanuel Valdez isn’t a top prospect. He’s a decent (ceiling) bat with no glove absorbing a 40 man roster spot that would need to open up to acquire Vasquez. And he could get the distinction of being traded for the same player twice…
  2. I believe Price’s opt out was after year three. He could have taken his ring and hit the market prior to the 2019 season and just in time to free up $123mill to add on to Betts’ offer.
  3. Ptchers are never blocked. But signing position players is different, and can quite often involve making a long term commitment to solve a short term problem. Not to mention free agency typically involves paying players in their 30’s for what they did in their 20’s, and often for another team. That said, I rarely advocate heavily (or even at all) for any free agent. But I still want the Sox to be all in on Soto. Fix the pitching via trade(s)…
  4. After reading that article comparing him to Vientos, I’d put Romy Gonzalez in the 3b mix. And I can include Meidroth. I’d also keep Campbell and Mayer out for now. Both are more likely to fit better in the middle infield. No one has confused Story with Cal Ripken lately. And Hamilton, while fun and surprising, can be beaten out at 2b…
  5. You could flip flop those two names in that last sentence and it makes just as much sense. Not to mention, Grissom is only 6 months older than Meidroth, already reached MLB, currently on the 40 man roster, and liked enough by the current admin that they increased the money in the Sale trade to acquire him. And also have not likely given up on him after one injury-plagued season…
  6. No! Spend recklessly and wantonly!!
  7. I hope they don’t waste money on Max Friend. Is he even a minor leaguer?
  8. There’s times when they’re good for fans. Price had an opt out after year three when he would have been 34 (with 4 years $123mill left). It looked like one he might have taken had he just stayed healthy for 3 years, especially since Zack Greinke signed a mega deal with Arizona around that time, and he was 4 years older than Price. But Price just couldn’t stay healthy for 3 years. Or even two years…
  9. <sigh> I mentioned earlier Harper and Soto reached free agency at the same age, in fact Harper was about two weeks younger…
  10. But trading them away from a team that was in the postseason hunt until the final week of the season does make less sense. Ober and Ryan might make a combined $8mill next season. Pablo Lopez makes a guaranteed $21.75 million per year for the next 3 seasons
  11. That depends - do you mean Pittsburgh or Seton Hall?
  12. I can admit to bring harsh on him. But Seager racing free agency at 27 really isn’t the potential opportunity on the same level as Soto reaching out at 26. Of course they will have something in common when all is said and done. Seager didn’t sign with Boston either. But until pen hits paper, I’m allowed to dream on this one…
  13. As discussed before, most of the above average right-handed bats do not hit lefties as well as Soto does…
  14. This is true. But Boston desperately needs a superstar to get past Betts…
  15. Just finished his age 25 season, just like Soto. He was actually a couple weeks younger…
  16. And you only brought extrapolated data into because the regular data doesn’t put Seager within 10% of Soto. Do you consider Seager to be the same type of generational talent as Soto? Seager’s had a great career, and will very likely get votes for Cooperstown. But Soto is on a historic path. Since 1950, he ranks 9th in fWAR through age 25. Ahead of Betts, Bonds, Harper, Mays, Ripken and lots of other guys who have already posed for busts…
  17. So Semien was more useful during his peak years of ages 27-33 than Soto was during his ages 19-25? I guess that makes them equal…
  18. Extrapolated bWAR isn’t the same as earned bWAR. If so, why would the Sox pursue Fried (4.9 bWAR/162 games) when they already have Richard Fitts (5.1 bWAR/162 games)? Seager is a talented player, but he does miss a lot of time that you’re now giving him credit for. It takes a COVID shutdown to get Soto off the field…
  19. I suppose there is a difference between “potential” and “ceiling”, but it’s probably just semantics…
  20. Ohtani is certainly a talent, but I think his career as a pitcher is short-lived with two TJs already under his belt. Judge is a good case, but he was entering his age 32 season, not his age 26 season. The only way Semien and Seager rank near Soto is alphabetically. How did they even get in this post? Who’s watching the door here?
