    We get a lot of foregone conclusions these days. And not even just talking about the contributors to this site. Google around and were trading Casas and Yoshida, and signing Bregman and Tanner Scott. And all this before 2pm today. Of course then reality sets in and no. We’ve actually reached that lull in the off-season where no one is going anywhere. It’s been in December the past few seasons. This year? Apparently post-holiday. Still over half of the MLBTR top 50 are unsigned. And less than 5 weeks until pitchers and catchers report…

    Like most, I won’t miss Dalbec. But hey, he gets to, as Trey Wilson said in “Bull Durham,” - “keep showing up at the ballpark and keep getting paid to do it.” Or words to that effect…

    Also I seriously doubt the Mets valued Dalbec and Casas equally. There may have been an iteration of that deal that included Dalbec, but no way was he the top piece. Someone worthwhile must have also been in there. The Mets dealt away consensus top 100 prospect Jarred Kelenic to get Diaz, and also had to take on the waining years of the mightily overpaid Robinson Cano. I can’t see them unloading Diaz for a package headlined by Dalbec.

    First Fisk, now this!!! If the White Sox are smart (and they rarely are), they would let Dalbec pitch and try to be a two way player. Or in this case, a one way player who has taken at bats…

    Pitching longer (on days they’re not getting pummeled) is fine. But if you have a strategy of limiting them to facing the lineup twice, they better be perfect through six…

    Absolutely not. In these days of preventing pitchers from facing the lineup the dreaded third time, you will have created a situation where the individual starters are pitching the same IP per game, leaving the same IP for the bullpen, but divided up amongst fewer pitchers…

    Sounds close enough that an agreement is reachable. If this goes to arb, the Sox hopefully understand they’re not going to win a case against an 8 WAR outfielder seeking utility infielder money…

    I think he has to be very open to an extension. If he requires another elbow surgery this year, he’s going to be a non-tender candidate that hits free agency with no deal, no chance of playing in 2026, and two TJs in his medical history. Not a good place to be negotiating from. But he will be a millionaire. So there is that…

    Maybe, but he was also open about wanting an extension from any team he was dealt to at the deadline last year.

    Per MLBTR, Duran asked for $4mill while Boston submitted an offer of $3.5mill. If you’re only off by $500K for your 8 WAR outfielder, a settlement is very likely…

    But in the NFL, greatness is defined by winning. And quite often by winning the Super Bowl. At some point, you’re saying “in order to win the Super Bowl, you need a QB that can win the Super Bowl.” The logic is getting circular…

    Helsley was never part of the deal and the Cardinals have said they’re not moving him. And they probably won’t until late July…

    It’s never proven helpful to a team beyond maybe enhancing the occasional fWAR of the player. The problem with these versatile guys is they don’t always excel at every position they try. Now more 2-way players? I think teams are going to try that. Or want to, as it can increase the number of available arms. The problem is, MLB has added rules that inhibit it. (For example, is it using a position player to pitch?). Of course if said position player is a superstar DH, MLB went all out of its own way to create rules to help him…

    Trent Dilfer isn’t the only mediocre QB to win a Super Bowl. And Jeff Hostetler and Brad Johnson, while both backed by very good defenses, were not backed by historically great defenses. Any championship team in any sports excels in at least one aspect of the game. I agree mediocrity never gets rings, but there’s no magic formula beyond that…

    Steroids are used medically to reduce inflammation and promote healing of certain injuries. If so, it could reduce injury or injury time for some players

    Why would Taylor Ward be an underwhelming addition? He had a .873 OPS vs LHP last year, has excellent range and a strong throwing arm, and is capable of playing either corner outfield position. And he’s a decent hitter, too. I like the idea. His biggest issue is he only has one year of control left…

    Why? He either stays healthy and then after year one he then bolts. (He might bolt even after struggling, depending on a few factors.) Or he gets injured during year one and you have 6 more years of dead money. Best hope is he struggles for year one and doesn’t opt out, and instead turns it around like Beckett did
