  1. Didn’t you cite WAR as a deterrent for Hoskins and Bell? That was exactly why I brought it up…
  2. Milwaukee has an $8mill team option and is coming off a season in which they made the NLCS. Is Peralta even available?
  3. Crochet averaged less because he spent most of his career as a reliever. Greene has always been a starter. 91 games. 91 starts…
  4. Deferred money is still spent. If you don’t believe me, ask MasterCard…
  5. Greene averages about 125 IP per season. I can’t make him a top ten SP until he starts hitting a minimum of 150 IP per season regularly. He has every ability except for two - availability and durability…
  6. The Mets spent even more…
  7. He won’t derail any team playing there occasionally. New man’s calling card used to be his glove, and Moore is a GG utility man (somehow)…
  8. IKF is good. Also, Dylan Moore, Willi Castro and Kevin Newman are free agents…
  9. I love the idea of Paredes at Fenway. Granted, he would set records for wall ball singles, which is not a bad thing. Defensively, he putters around average for a 3b. Also not bad. Not great, but not bad. Both he and Duran have 3 arb years left and both probably make about $8mill this year. Paredes is a 2-3 bWAR player, whereas Duran is more of a 5-6bWAR player. BTV absolutely hates it as a 1 for 1 deal, with Paredes having a surplus value of $8.7 mill and Duran having one of $70.3 mill. But it is a need-for-need trade and something could be worked out. Giving up Duran or not, Paredes is a good idea for Boston. And a potential surplus for Houston, who acquired Cam Smith in the same trade…
  10. I have to defer to you on the level of management hatred, but unless you’re Bob Kraft during the Patriots run or Steinbrenner in the late 1990’s, isnt every front office hated by someone? I remember seeing posts about how Epstein ruined the Red Sox DURING THE 2007 POSTSEASON RUN!
  11. Harmony is at home sticking pins in a little Dan Wilson doll* *Available for $24.99 at the Voodoo Hut on the T-Mobil park mezzanine…
  12. Possible. But do you think the Sox will (not can, not should, but will) DFA Yoshida and pay him $36.4mill, pay Alonso, pay Bregman, and then pay Hoskins and still offer arbitration to Casas?
  13. Or the Sox re-investigate the availability of blocked prospect Dalton Rushing. Reportedly the Dodgers were trying to move him to the OF. Why not just deal him for an OF? He matches up nicely with Abreu on BTV, but Duran is a much better fit for the Dodgers. (Rushing alone should not be enough for a Duran.)
  14. Given who was coming up, I found myself yelling “bring in Munoz!” Lukes isnt so frightening but with Vlad just two hitters away? Bazardo has been up and down too often this postseason. Was he saving Munoz to face Varsho, Clement, and Barger in the 9th?
  15. The last 3 years of McCourt ownership were not good, but during their tenure with the team, “crappy product” and “misery” ignores a lot of the successes that franchise had. No one said they were terrific people…
  16. “Star power” shouldn’t mean “expensive players that used to be really good.” Springer hadn’t been the 5-6 bWAR player in Toronto that he was in Houston. He’s been a good player, but his 14.4 bWAR in 5 years isn’t dramatically different that the 6.6 bWAR Wilyer Abreu has posted in just two. Do fans want good players or pricey players with big names and pasts they can no longer replicate?
  17. Also, might as well bring it up but if the Sox sign both Alonso and Bregman, why exactly would they need Hoskins? They still have Casas, and Yoshida isnt likely to go anywhere. How many 1b/DH types should they squeeze on to the roster? And what position should they eliminate to do so?
  18. Well, back then you could go see a movie for 50 cents, a loaf of bread was free, and a Hall of Famer cost you $40,000…
  19. Just because they can and they should doesn’t mean they will. As long as they win. If they go cheap with Hoskins or Bell at 1b and it works, i won’t complain about not having Alonso around until he’s 38 years old and f***ing up the Sox chances of extending Mayer or whoever…
  20. I expect it. I will say that those large and long contracts do often lead to ugly, detrimental contracts at some point. And for players already over 30, you don’t always get the great years up front to justify them. Even at his best years in Boston, David Price was NEVER the pitcher he was before coming here…
  21. I have my doubts about Henry splurging for both Alonso and Bregman. I’m probably not alone…
  22. I’m curtailing any excitement over major acquisitions beyond returning players. I love the idea of Ketel Marte, but it isn’t remotely likely. I carry significant (and possibly justified) doubts about Alonso. And I think I am more likely to play for the Sox than Kyle Tucker is, despite a talent gap best measured in light years. So at this point, I expect any 2026 lineup to look unexciting at this point. Of course I expect it to be an improvement of the postseason lineup that featured Romy Gonzalez and Nate Eaton on a regulated basis…
  23. Perfect replacement for Betts? In his first 4 years in Toronto, Springer was worth 9.6 bWAR. In his last 4 years in Boston, Betts was worth 34.2 bWAR. A quarter of the player for half the money isn’t a perfect replacement…
  24. I think the preference is Alonso. But if you want to avoid strikeouts and improve defense, he’s not the solution either. If you want a guy who yells at pitchers after long foul balls and runs like a penguin on cocaine, Alonso is perfect for you. Alonso reportedly wants 7 years. At age 31, it seems unlikely anyone will give him that. I think the only way he comes to Boston is if Bregman doesn’t return, although that on its own guarantees nothing.
  25. McCourt owned the Dodgers from 2004 until 2012. In that stretch they won 3 pennants, made 4 postseason appearances and reached the NLCS three times. All in an era with fewer wild card teams. Is that the new definition of miserable? A couple dozen other teams would like that kind of misery. Such a “crappy product”…
