  1. And yet they did. 5 winning streaks of 4+ games in August and September helped a lot…
  2. Billy Beane did it quite often in Oakland. Detroit dealt away Flaherty, Chafin, etc. LAST YEAR and made the postseason…
  3. I’m close. I would go: 1. Wilson 2. Narvaez 3. Kameron Misener 4. Smith 5. Campbell, just ahead of Meidroth… I hope Mayer, Anthony and Dobbins can all make a run…
  4. BTV strongly suggests Duran brings back the better return with his surplus value of $62.5 million over Abreu’s &43.4 million. While these numbers might be arguably high, I do think Duran is the better all around player. Abreu’s appeal over Duran (besides defense) is the cheaper salary and longer control. Since Abreu is still pre-arb and making league minimum, teams like Pitt, Sacra-Vegas, KC, Tampa, etc. that have financial concerns might be more interested in Abreu than Duran…
  5. Both. Assuming the Sox can stay within striking distance of a wild card spot over the next 5 weeks. I would move an OF and focus on a return of controllable players, either early MLB or high minors, to make a more immediate impact. This might mean acquiring prospects and then flipping them for more closer players…
  6. True. But where do you place him? if I asked for your top 5 ROY candidates so far, who is on your list?
  7. Do not move the goal posts. This started with a comment that the Sox don’t want Anthony to win ROY. That’s ridiculous. While there is a downside, theres also plenty of upside. Of course right now, Hes not even a candidate…
  8. I think these packages might not fit a universal definition of substantial…
  9. Same. I never officially ignore anyone. There are posters I do not like, but occasionally I read something they post and find it to be remarkably insightful…
  10. At this point, isn’t it just me, Illinois, and moon? There are some others from the other site that still post here, like Bellhorn and Kimmi, but I think they were both doing it before that date…
  11. For those of you scoring at home, I’m on yet another “Ignore” list, giving me a slight lead on the site. Official standings should be posting soon…
  12. 5Gold is a clown and has a predilection for puns, but if he fits your definition of a troll, you might need to redefine it. At his worst, Hes Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. And nobody hates Triumph…
  13. I want the original, but I did keep it going. I did start the rhyming stuff…
  14. First of all, let’s not confuse “losing a year” with “not gaining a year.” They’re not the same thing at all. I think the Sox are more interested in Anthony succeeding rather than struggling just to prolong his free agency, especially since he’s very likely to reach Super Two status and gain an arb year anyway even if he does figure in ROY balloting. But more important, if he’s good enough to figure in ROY voting now despite being over 2+ full WAR behind leader Jacob Wilson, he can and should help the Sox win some games. And that is their primary goal - winning, not managing Roman Anthony’s career. And it’s beyond presumptuous to assume just because he’s the #1 prospect - a credential he shares with Andrew Benintendi and Daisuke Matsuzaka - automatically makes him a candidate for ROY….
  15. They’ll demote Hamilton. My guess is Cora will start Anthony in LF platooning with Refsnyder, Duran in CF everyday, and Abreu in RF platooned with Rafaela. Also Mayer gets platooned at 3b with Romy. But Story plays everyday! And every time Cora does this, I will stick another pin into my Alex Cora bobble head…
  16. Ruin the return? You keep telling us how awful Duran is! If BTV value is accurate, Duran should command a good return. While Duran has more surplus value than Andrew Painter, I would be shocked if DD included him. He wanted Painter in the rotation last year. The Bleacher Report proposed Painter plus 17yo catching prospect Eduardo Tait (BA #93). BTV called it an overpay. I call it a Pipe Dream. But I could see a deal for RHSP Mick Abel, Tait, and 20yo AA SS Aidan Miller (BA #36)…
  17. I don’t think any deal of Duran or Abreu is even possible until Abreu returns from the IL…
  18. The Bleacher Report (slogan: More accurate than The Onion!) suggests Philly would deal Andrew Painter for Duran. While BTV gives Duran the higher surplus value, I don’t see Philly doing it. Maybe Mick Abel, but not Painter..
  19. I’d rather bench Story or include him in the Duran package…
  20. The shaggy look hurts him because all you hear in the stands is “Jayson Werth needs a shower.”
  21. You did read my posts this off-season. Add to their reasons, Philly might be learning there’s a good chance Brandon Marsh isn’t very good…
  22. I wouldn’t imagine any deals will happen for at least 4 weeks, if at all…
