  1. Don’t sleep on Nate Eaton!! Seriously, don’t. He’s an outfielder, not a mattress. I don’t want to need to remind you again…
  2. Clearly having a hitter with a 1.180 OPS didn’t work. So why try it again?
  3. Robertson has quietly been hanging in there with Tanner Scott when it comes to recent effectiveness. He does turn 40 soon, however. The clock is ticking…
  4. These stories emerge every now and then and are probably exaggerated and inconsequential. It’s not like Henry didn’t know Dombrowski. Like when stories emerged about the rift between Dan Duquette and Jimy Williams, and supposedly reached the point where DD would trade or release prospects Williams liked (namely Adam Everett and David Eckstein). Did that really happen for that reason? If so, why didn’t DD simply fire Williams? He had the authority to do so…
  5. Soxprospects still expects Boston to add a reliever. If it’s only a one year deal, David Robertson feels like the most likely candidate. At his age, he’s not getting multiple years and he is well aware of this…
  6. I actually think it’s the opposite, primarily because a lot of personnel seem to get recycled from team to team. Like any industry. The decisions clearly vary. But I bet the process is the same…
  7. Aren’t most teams run similarly? I would suspect very few teams if any put these multimillion dollar investments in the hands of a single decision maker…
  8. Oh. I’m confusing High and Hitch again. My bad…
  9. Giving Bregman a landed cost of roughly $43 mill or more. And where did anyone say O’Neill was a bench/platoon guy? Considering you were the one who said the logic for extending a QO to O’Neill was “hard to argue with,” I’d say you’re doing an ok job at it…
  10. Well, the commitment to Rafaela in CF didn’t come until long after any decision on O’Neill. The Sox had all three and Abreu last season and everyone got their time. If O’Neill moved Rafaela’s bat to the bench a little more often, it’s not all that detrimental, especially with the improvements Duran made in CF…
  11. Why? Calling up Anthony to replace the oft-injured O’Neill during his IL trips only requires one roster spot…
  12. There’s been a lot of speculation about Abreu being moved, but has Breslow actually tried moving him? I find it hard to believe teams like Pittsburgh and KC have no interest in a 3 WAR Gold Glove right fielder with 5 years of control…
  13. I wouldn’t have minded another year of O’Neill, whose off again/on again playing time creates an opportunity for Anthony as opposed to blocking him. But I do think it’s likely the Sox never get a pick. Pivetta shows up for work pretty regularly and so far that hasn’t worked out regarding his compensatory pick…
  14. Moving Abreu was always its own independent action. Think they move him if Teoscar had signed on?
  15. I liked O’Neill, but he’s only played 280 games in the past 3 years. Im not so sure that counts for the RHB being taken care of. Not to mention there’s a good chance an attached pick ruins O’Neill’s market and leaves him signing with the Chunichi Dragons, who don’t have to surrender a pick…
  16. At this stage a year ago, Corbin Burnes was a Brewer. Big moves and changes do happen in February. Of course, it’s not even February yet…
  17. They gave up ER-C for Narvaez. Sure he’s not the sexiest pitching prospect, but he’s not worthless either…
  18. And 3-3 vs KC. They went 6-1 vs the White Sox, while KC went 12-1 against Chicago and finished just one game ahead for the last wild card spot…
  19. There’s apparently also some internal conflict about where Bregman would play, with Breslow seeing him as a way to upgrade corner defense but Cora preferring him as a keystone…
  20. The White Sox very likely kept Seattle out of the postseason. Boston was third in the East; they have other mountains to climb. Baltimore has yet to do much to improve, save o adding an off-injured O’Neill. But they also didn’t as Burnes until February of last year, and c could do something similar this off season, especially since they have a very highly ranked Coby Mayo and no place to play him…
  21. Man’s even on paper, the White Sox look worse than a team that only won 41 games last year, which I was not sure was possible. It’s not hard to envision them having a major impact on the AL postseason again. I mean, they single-handedly made everyone else in the AL Central look competitive…
  22. It doesn’t need to be a bidding war. It just takes one team deciding to up their offer. Also with ST games starting up in a few weeks, a lot can change. If some teams sees their 3b go down for the year, it could dramatically change interest in Bregman. Plenty of teams make trades and sign free agents all through February and even March. These deals can impact Bregman’s market either way. I doubt he thinks he is sitting on final offers. The Yankees haven’t even been linked to him. But does anyone think they really plan to use Oswaldo Peraza and DJ LaMahieu at 3b next year?
  23. It’s not just about who improved. Sometimes it’s about who took steps backwards. One of the biggest factors last year appeared to be the abominable play of the White Sox. Detroit (76-73) was barely above .500 against the rest of MLB. And KC (74-75) and Minnesota (70-79) were both under .500. And then Boston went and acquired the White Sox best player, making them even worse…
  24. What will help Wong the most is if MLB implements the automated ball/strike system, negating his lackluster framing skills. He does a decent job controlling the running game. He’ll still be inadequate at blocking pitches, however…
