  1. Arenado certainly could make the infield defense better, but he’s a step down offensively from Yoshida…
  2. StatCast spray charts do not take the height of the wall into account. Vaughn Grissom’s spray charts show one hit he has was a clear home run to left center on the Fenway overlay. But those dots are links to videos of the hit (I did not know this), and that ball that should have landed well behind the monster was actually hit AT FENWAY and struck the wall 2/3 of the way up for a double…
  3. I’ll make some calls
  4. Nothing is level. The planet is round.
  5. Oh Breslow. Ignore my pleas for the strongest outfield arm in MLB who happens to hit right-handed. If they do sign a RHH OF, the options are down to Grichuk and some Boston retreads (Pham, Margot, and Dunn)…
  6. I was thinking north and south, but those work too…
  7. Because any sit down would have involved the interpreter anyway, who could have relayed any message he wanted to either party.. Bank: Mr. Ohtani, we need your approval to move another $10,000,000 to this account. Interpreter (to Shohei): He wants to know if you’re enjoying the Southern California weather. Ohtani (in Japanese): It’s ok I guess Interpreter: He approves. Bank: Good. Then just sign here. Interpreter (to Shohei): He’s a big fan and would like an autograph.
  8. I’m not wild about Yates posting 3.3 of his career 9.1 bWAR in one season at age 38. That screams “not repeating!!” loud enough to be heard at both poles simultaneously…
  9. He could have been. And that would explain deleting the telegram thread. The remainder of the evidence suggests the ump did nothing wrong. But I do support the ban regardless. MLB needs a Zero Tolerance policy with umps gambling on baseball.
  10. You’re right. He did have TJ in 2019. It’s been a while but he had one. I still preferred him over Yates…
  11. It doesn’t look like he bet on baseball and didn’t influence his friend’s games he bet on. But the association in this endeavor still requires his banishment. It sets a Zero Tilerance precedent that takes the opportunity for defense away from the next guy. Plus why did they delete those telegram threads? I wouldn’t be surprised if the ump jokingly referenced causing his friend to lose bets or something similarly harmless. Or was it something actually bad?
  12. Robertson has no real injury history and has been a solid 2 bWAR performer for the last 3 seasons. I think he is the best arm left, but not the only good one…
  13. And in Fantasy Football, it’s limited to people who want to slug Joc Pederson. So… no limit…
  14. I’ll clap for him with one hand…
  15. Crochet absolutely. Love that move and will like it more when he’s extended. I did like Giolito signing, of course he’s normally not injured or coming off injury. The acquisitions were risky but their depth is not bad, with 10 SPs on the 40 man roster, not counting Sandoval…
  16. Who are all these AAAA pitchers?
  17. I’ve been excited about none of them. Yates is more of the same. If you recall, I didn’t want Buehler either..
  18. None. We just know Cora bases his lineups on more than just pitching matchups, which was the “quote” being refuted. If Cora only used pitching matchups, in theory at least one bench player would never start at all. Someone has to be the worst…
  19. The early stories so far include: 1. No betting on baseball has been found on the ump’s device. Other sports? Yes. But no baseball. 2. Baseball bets were placed on his friend’s device. 3. He was an umpire in a few games his friend bet on, but the friend lost those bets. The big deal so far has been the deletion of the telegram threads…
  20. A 38yo pitcher coming off a career year does seem like a questionable idea to me. And the reliever talent pool still does have some depth in it. Robertson is the clear top talent, but there are other good arms still left…
  21. I’m hopeful on Robertson. But I wonder why he is still available and my biggest question is, is he only looking at teams he deems title contenders? I am basing this off nothing, but (particularly aging) players have done that kind of thing before. And Robertson hasn’t won a ring since he was in Mariano Rivera’s shadow…
  22. Spent $13mill on a reliever? Hopefully. Wasted it on a 38yo coming off a career year after a decade of off again-on again performances and injury hiatuses? I’ll pass. If not for the career year, this is the guy the Sox normally sign. And then no one likes
  23. The Sox bullpen will be adding or seeing the return of Hendriks, Chapman, Whitlock, Fulmer and Guerrero and may still add others. But let’s focus on Wilson, because only free agents count and there is a semi-decent chance he is still with the team in June…
  24. Casas does. In fact, if Casas stumbles and falls in April, he won’t even hit the ground…
