    So Anthony is untouchable but Skenes isn’t? It’s not happening. Especially not without Anthony. Pitt doesnt want Duran and Abreu….

    Can we stop with Skenes fantasies? Pitt has no reason to deal him and certainly won’t do it for outsiders with less control. If you’re not starting your deal for Skenes with both Anthony and Tolle, you’re not being serious. And before the “they know the Sox won’t deal Antjony” stuff as if it matters, isnt Skenes just ss untiuchable?

    Per BTV, Alcantara (2 yrs $38mill) has a surplus value of $10.1mill. From Boston, an equivalent package could include any one of Perales, Early, Valera, Romero, Cespedes, or Dobbins. No idea how Miami feels about any of them. Some might be worth the risk for Alcantara. Probably not Early or Dobbins. You might need one or both if you trade for Alcantara. With a contract worth $38mill over 2 years and a surplus value of $10mill, projections have Alcantara at 6 fWAR over 2 years or 3 fWAR per year. I think the Sox could get that from either Early or Dobbins instead.

    Singer can usually find himself in the top 20-40% for WAR, which by some definitions can make him a #2. I am far from enamored with him. I just figure he is much more likely to be traded than Hunter Greene. In fact, I’m not sure why Cincy would be entertaining the thought of trading Hunter Greene right now. It’s almost as outrageous as thinking the Pirates should trade Paul Skenes this off-season…

    I’ll take it a step further. If the Sox are going to swing and miss on the occasional signing, I’d much rather do so on deals like Buehler, Kluber, Richard than on deals like David Price, Carl Crawford, etc…

    In the next 3 offseasons (counting this one), the biggest names the Sox lose are Chapman, Bregman, Story and Giolito. They also lose their only two deadweights (Yoshida and Hicks). This situation is not urgent. What happens if they go all in for 2026, only to lose Crochet in April?

    Absolutely not. They just made the postseason for the first time since 2020 (when too many teams made it) and the second time since 2013. Theyre not going to tear down their pitching staff this off-season. Singer? Decent chance they try to move him. Lodolo? Maybe. Greene? No way unless they know something…

    Too much overlap. We need the winning percentage for Anthony in games without Crochet and for Crochet in games without Anthony….

    What about teams looking to trade a pitcher more expensive than Duran? I can understand moving Duran, whose value may never be higher, but I think Philadelphia and LA are far likelier landing spots. I don’t see any high end SP coming back. Prospects that can be flipped for one, maybe. But I think it’s far, far likelier the Sox just bring back Giolito rather than go out and acquire Ryan or Greene or whatever name some random stitch pundit throws out there…

    I could see Cincy moving a pitcher not named Greene for Duran, since he is exactly the type of player they need. But as I said somewhere else, Singer is probably their preferred trade chip. As for the Sox, they are far, far, far more likely to just bring back Giolito than to trade for another starting pitcher…

    Greene strikes me as a Buyer Beware trade piece. Cincinnati is coming off a playoff year and willing to trade their best SP for OF help? And after they extended him relatively cheaply? Sure he is signed for 4 years, but anyone acquiring him might only get 2.5. I get they want some offense, but so does Boston and Garrett Crochet isnt on the trade market. Brady Singer seems like the obvious choice to move, given he has one year left. He is good enough to pitch in the #2 role on a playoff team. But that one year might limit what Cincy can get. Nick Lodolo seems more like the movable piece here. Good enough to bring back some offense. Two arb years left. And worth 5 bWAR last year. From Boston, I only see Cincy interested in Duran. They want offense, so Rafaela is out. Abreu can hit but a lot of his value is defensive. Anthony is certainly on their list but I don’t see Boston making that deal. I could see a deal involving Duran and Lodolo, despite the great differences in their BTV values. Unless Breslow decides to move Duran for infield help, since the free agent market for pitchers is deeper than it is for hitters…

    When was the last time Bregman batted .214? Hoskins might have better ISOP numbers, but his strikeout-fueled approach still gives him lower overall SLG.

    What would you view as complacency? I would suspect the Sox add about 4 players, some of whom might be returning faces. For all of the talk about Ryan and Greene, would anyone be surprised if Giolito was the only major SP addition (assuming he opts out). Or Bregman returning? I don’t think anyone would be shocked. But I would be shocked if they signed Bregman and then went Alonso. Would Bregman and Giolito be considered complacency?

    Breslow wanted Cora for 3b; Cora wanted him for 2b. But then Cora didnt sign Breslow…

    Again that takes both parties to agree. Devers was very vocal about not wanting to move to 1b, assuming his interpreter was accurate and not contracted from the same place Nelson Mandela got his interpreter. Devers moving to first wasn’t a new idea. Bloom suggested it during his contract talks when he based his first offer near what Matt Olson had just signed for. The fallout there was Bloom’s next offer coming amidst a discussion where Devers would remain at third base. I don’t think moving Devers to first was going to be so easy to convince merely by “manning up.” Devers was adamant about playing third for a few years by that time. And if he wasn’t going to move to help cover for an injured teammate, what was going to motivate him?

    You do have to wait if the other team isnt willing. There were stories about Breslow calling around for some corner infielders (Otto Kemp and Tim Elko were mentioned), but other teams simply were not ready to deal…

    Replace him with who? Start streaming AAAA first basemen and hope for hot streaks? Or place an order at Amazon? Maybe get Mo Vaughn out of retirement? The bigger issue was not addressing that position at the deadline, but that was weeks away…

    It is highlighted in the article, but maybe not emphasized enough is the one thing about Murakami that makes him interesting is his age - he turns 26 in February, making him younger than the pitching prospects the Sox are possibly considering adding to the 40 man roster (like Mullens and Uberstine). He is not high on my list (which admittedly carries less weight than I prefer), but I could see why some teams are intrigued…
